Will Bethesda Enjoy Skyrim As We Will?

Post » Fri Oct 07, 2011 2:47 pm

So all those people that designed the dungeons, done the voice acting, designed skyrim overall... do you think they'll enjoy Skyrim as we TES fans will? I mean, those who created lore for Skyrim already know a lot and may not enjoy Skyrim that much because of the 'spoilers', yet I've seen that Todd and other people that helped designing it are eager to play it (Todd on Xbox360 for example.)

But there's also the thought that developers may enjoy the game more than us because of the fact that they designed it and they really like playing something that they created, the bond between them and the game is more powerful.

What do you think?

I would hope everyone who worked on the game enjoys it. As for the developers enjoying it a little more, I think so. I would be a little more into a game I personally worked on, and to have the huge fan base that it does.

I doubt it. A lot of the exploration and enjoyment of the game's twists and turns is lost on them, considering they created those twists and turns in the first place, and they know how many headaches went into making them. At least that's what a BGS employee said when interviewed for the Oblivion anniversary edition

Isn't that what they say in all their interviews? They always make the game that they want to play, that even them would take time off work to enjoy.

I'd imagine they'd want to play it. You couldn't possibly have worked on everything in the game, thus the point of the teams.

I'd want to be able to see my hard work and the completed project/enjoy it so I felt it was all worthwhile. What the point of pouring your blood/sweat/tears into something if you don't enjoy it?

You would need to speak to them personally when they are on. But from what I could tell, the people who test the game for bugs and stuff would probably enjoy the game less by the time it releases. Having to play every play style with every race doing every quest checking for glitches. But I'm not a game tester so I wouldn't know. :P

Its better if the development team enjoys making games, because that means they make more!

They'll enjoy it. Probably not as much though.

I always thought it would lose a LOT of fun because you made it. You know everything about it. You coded it, modeled it. all it is is animated. you saw it when it was just a 3D model. it takes the magic away.

Game developers never enjoy/experience the game like fans do. That's just a fact.

While they may enjoy it to some degree, they can never stop being a dev and start being 100% fan.

Absolutely not. They knew the design, internal goals, mottos and stare at it every day 8+ hours a day. Sure there are interesting bits that come up along the way and they feel a great sense of pride and accomplishment, but they can never experience the finished product like we can where each step, each sound, every quest and treasure is something new.

I've made some pretty big mods and developed several games. Even though I enjoyed them it's just never the same as playing an unknown game for the first time. In fact, I'd say quite a few of them won't ever look at Skyrim again or play it after it ships, simply because they are sick of looking at it after all this time. I've got some games I made I never played all the way through after it went gold, lol. Testing them 1000's of times burns you out, and knowing the outcome takes away most of the fun.
