Will Bethesda release the Construction Set for the Skyrim?

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 2:35 pm

Or it will adopt the latest (rotten?) BioWare policy to keep the CS and release small armor packs for additional dimes? What are the latest news? Just curious.

From what I have read recently all indications point to yes. Whether it will be released on day 1 is another story. I think it helps they are their own publishers pretty much so it's up to them.

But Todd has even discussed wanting to see modding come across to consoles. So it would be highly unusual for them to not bring out the CS after promoting support for the modding community. :)

They've already said that they are planning on releasing the CS (Or Creation Kit as it's called now), so no worries there. Hopefully it'll be available on release day. :)

One of the reasons elder scrolls games still sell like hot cakes years after release is because of the modding tools, they'd be fools not to release them in my opinion

We though the same about BioWare... and now we've got an unplayable buggy DA2, no CS and armor DLCs for additional money. They are like killing the Dragon Age division with their own hands! :( So, my question is not just for fun...

There is a reason why I started hating BioWare ever since the "Warden's Keep" DLC.

Todd (I believe) made a comment that they are continuing to use the NIF format because it works and the modding community is familiar with it so I'd say yes.

Of course they will release a Construction Set. That has always been a tradition in the series, and assuming they keep the nif format, they ought to keep a released CS, too. The question is rather if it will come with the game, or if it will be provided seperately on their website.

As has been pointed out, Bethesda is their own publisher. Bioware is beholden to EA, I'd imagine that'd influence things a fair bit.

Don't really bother with most DLC, so the number of things they released for DA didn't really bug me. And, over on DragonAgeNexus, there's a massive modding community going on, for both DA:O and DA2.

I'd imagine modding DA2 is not so easy without any tools released...

They even said it was possible this time to release the CS onto consoles but that decision will lie in the hands of Microsoft and Sony. :sadvaultboy:

There are some tools, but modding is clearly limited. I also wouldn't put modding for DA:O and DA2 together, as Kiralyn did. These are two different things. Plus, on the top, MASSIVE :) DA2 modding community sounds a bit better than in reality, at least here, in Bethesda forums. I am very pessimistic about where it is all going for BioWare, tbh. It is going to be RIP. EA will shut the DA division down, I'm afraid. Sorry for the offtop. CS is very critical for good modding and fun.

Oh, I don't doubt Bethesda. They know what they are doing and have never disappointed me so far. :) Well, I might not have a agreed with a few design decisions, but nothing major.

My hate goes deeper than just the DLC.
I hate both, it's cool to hate, you know. :celebration:

all indications say yes they'll release. just a matter of when. the earlier the better tho since OB was unplayable for me and FO3 and NV worth no more than 1 playthru without mods

Ok, I can accept that. :)

I'm not playing DA2, I just pop by the DANexus to see what new stuff is popping up. And at a casual glance, I've seen mods for DA2. So, to the outside observer who's not actually participating, it looks like there's a good amount of modding going on. But, like I said, just at a casual glance. :)

Edit: but, yeah - for the main topic of the thread, they said they're releasing the tools. So.....

If they didn't then i guess they could always make a new modding set, but they already said it will be their for pc users.

And even then they said it doesn't look likely at release. :banghead:

havent they always released the CS set (at least in the recent era of games?) they pride themselves in doing so as well, ive seen interviews where todd is very satisfied with the fact that they essentially give their game away to their modding community and give them to tools to add and change the game anyway the modders wish.

There will be a modding tool, called the Creation Kit.
They are hoping to have it ready for the public on day 1, but they are still not sure on that part.

The Creation Kit uses NIF Format, and the reason behind that is as Todd explains, the modders knows the format. (They care about us!)
It uses a new Scripting Language, but how new it is, is still uncertain. (i.e, will we see the same commands, or something entirely new?)

As for how it looks, it's very much like the Construction Set, just very much improved. :)

Mods for Consoles will, according to Todd Howard, most likely not make it for Skyrim, but he is hoping that it'll make it for the next game. (TES VI confirmed?^^)

I'd like it if it were Lua, or Python.
