Will Bosmer be portrayed well this time?

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 12:22 pm

Let me start it out like this.
Bosmer are my favorite race, they are swift to the bow and just make the best assassin characters.
But Bethesda in the past has been uncapable of making the Bosmer right. Bosmer in Morrowind... Just horrible. HORRIBLE I TELL YOU!
Oblivion's Bosmer was slightly improved, but again a huge action that damaged the image of Bosmer kind to gamers everywhere. The adoring fan.
In lore they are supposed to be carnivorous elves with a tendency to eat their fallen foes. I know that is only a practice they act in Valenwood. But they shouldn't be annoying little midgets. Glarthir, Adoring fan all those. Bethesda seriously damaged their image.
I really hope they make them well in Skyrim or I will go sadface.

I certainly hope they're portrayed better.

Completely aside from the fact that I like Bosmer and like to play them and would prefer to be able to do so without the taint of all the bad jokes that have been applied to them, and most forcibly in Oblivion, the whole thing is just tedious and shallow. Stereotypes are lazy, and the fewer of them, the better.

Considering the appearances of all of the other races we've seen so far, they're going to be more serious looking. If they weren't, they'd go against the grain of the game.

Considering it is Beth that created the Bosmer and decided how they were, then how can they portray them wrong? Or is it more a matter of them not portraying Bosmer how you want them to?

As soon as Bethesda released the screen of the Skyrim Orc, I have complete confidence every race will look awesome.

It's the fact that pretty well all of the annoying characters in the game seem to be Bosmers

I'd like to see them portrayed more seriously and with more depth as NPCs I must say. That way, when playing as a Bosmer, you wouldn't feel slightly embarrassed by the behaviour of your compatriots.

Oh, I hope so.

In Morrowind, there was just Fargoth, who (apparently) annoyed players, though not intentionally. Then Tribunal came along with a largely irritating almost immortal Bosmer who wanted to horde my cash. Bosmer started to get annoying. Then Oblivion came by and just made a laughing stock of the bosmer race. I hope they don't carry on with the trend.

They need to be taken more seriously. Even when we ignore the cannibalism, Bosmer culture and lore is pretty damn awesome. Bones homes, the green pact, protection from the forest deity, Y'ffre...

They can be Adoring Cannibals :teehee:
But better if dark eyes with large pupil will be done to make them more like forest living animals, if face paint was added nice also see some racial paints on some Bosmer faces

For the most part, they WERE portrayed wrong. In the lore (books and stories), they were dangerous, sneaky, and actually rather strong. They were not a folk you wanted to get on the bad side of.

Morrowind, in some parts, and Oblivion in many parts, portrayed them as rather annoying, petty people.

Yes, the series so far has not done a good service to them as a legitimate race.

Its fine that Bosmer have joke characters. Its NOT fine that the only memorable Bosmer ARE ALL joke characters. Give us a reason to LIKE them for once, rather than a reason to HATE THEM.

I didnt really have a problem with Bosmer. Not every Bosmer can be an expert Valenwood Ranger. for every Glarthir, you had a serious Bosmer.

I doubt they'll turn out better than Glarthir. If I hadn't killed him in OB, he would have surely returned to his homeland and became King of Valenwood. :nope:

Edit: Wtf? Post above mine mentions Valenwood and Glarthir. Awesome...

The trouble is when I think of Bosmer I always seem to think of Glarthir :ahhh:

Yh that or Thoronir and the annoying fan. :banghead:

After a heavy armored sword swinging warrior (supported with some magic) Nord, my second character is always a Bosmer as they are a great race to play with if you go with sneak, acrobatics, light armor, bow etc.

I like to see them as a short smaller framed Altmer as the two are supposed to be from the same elven roots further back. Dunmer & orcs are also from these roots but the Dunmer having dark skin color and the orcs uglier appearance is due to reasons explained in TES lore.

I really hate seeing Bosmer with pale skin & blonde hair. This look to me is for Nords and is a sign of being from the far North with its cold climate and lack of sun. I think of Bosmer as a swarthier looking people with an olive yellowy skin and the tendency for darker hair due to them being from a warm or hot climate with plenty of sun.

Now you mention it. I always looked down to the Bosmers because i thought that they should be adventurous people. You know... Out in the woods and such being adventurous. Not some boring shop keeper or some lunatic person.

I don't see those traits you mentioned being in the lore as excluding "annoying" and "petty."

If that's the only thing personality-wise that sets them apart from the other races, then so be it. As long as they're not all jokes.
