will brink become the game of the year?

Post » Fri Mar 25, 2011 1:57 pm

I really really really want brink to become a successful game. It has so much to offer, there are new things you can do on this than any other FPS. Could it compete with call of duty? Thats really hard to say. To find out we can only wait till the game hits the shelves. I know im going to pre-order it. It's just upsetting to see all of my friends constantly play Black Ops. I mean yea the game is good. But they treat it like it's the greatest thing to ever come to the caming universe. They have no explorability in the gaming universe. It's understandable to be timid when it comes to buying a new game, they dont come cheap. But thats why people research. It's 2 months away from this games release, and i already am setting up possible classes and everything. Not that im a die hard gamer, i just want something out of the box, not just a same old teamdeath match, or headquarters game. Brinks online offers tons more than that. I mean if i got bored with the normal shoot shoot newbs newbs, i have the option to break off by myself or with a buddy to complete an objective. I love the movement in the game, i love being able to look badass while i move among other players to. It gives you self confidence, it can work as intimidation too. Who would want to go after some guy that can completly manipulate the environment, manuvering his way around to gain the advantage on you. Yep didn't think so. So please Splash Damage make this intense waiting process be worth it, i want this to be the game of the year. I have a feeling my friends will stay with the COD series because their blind. But until them, keep the eye candy coming.

Possible contenders in first-person shooter genre (in no particular order):

BRINK
Rage
Battlefield 3
Call of Duty ##
Killzone 3
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Homefront

Deus Ex, BF3, and Killzone i think are going to be the main contenders against brink, to me Brink has a lot of original ideas and looks fantastic, the only problem is that the other games come out later and are still able to change small things to counteract brink.

I'm sure it will win GOTY somewhere. Every game mentioned in this thread will. Every gaming website and magazine does their own GOTY and none of them are official so unless we're talking about our personal picks there's not much point in arguing. If were just talking in general, Arkham City will probably be the critical darling this year, with COD getting panned for continuing a 5 year old formula and the whole Infinity Ward debacle.

i agree with you if modern warfare 3 was in here id shut it down or if bullet storm, or crysis 2 was involved good games not good enough for GOTY

Sadly it won't win FPS's of the year. To many people love getting 4 kills & killstreaks turnning it into 30.

GOTY is generally determined by the game that won the most awards for it.

And who compiles that? Anyone can give out awards. There's no generally agreed upon GOTY, that's why 5 games a year have Game of the Year Editions.

I'm feeling Skyrim around to be most anticipated, but game of the year, who knows. We haven't played them all.

From here ..... http://e3.gamespot.com/best-of-e3-2010/index.html?tag=content_nav;games;best-of

It would seem that chiefredstar' is talking out of his [censored] again :)

If you click on the link to see the most antisipated games Brink isn`t even in the top 5....infact i see no mention of it....Wonder why ?

Maybe he's talking about one of http://www.splashdamage.com/awards#brink? I can never be sure with him though...

Nah, it's not a sequel. I think TESV: Skyrim, Arkham City, or CoD 98713249 will win.

Not a chance, sorry but this year its all about Battlefield 3. DICE has all but said its GOTY or no Dice, pun intended.

I gotta say, only 2 people mentioned ME3? Game of the year?

Betting on Brink to be spectacular is quite the gamble, as many other posts said what have they shown us is just basic gameplay, nothing more.

I'm not saying Brinks going to be horrible, I'm just saying its coming out in a year were every well known developer is tossing everything they have at the gamers, and Brink stands almost no chance of toppling titles such Duke Nukem, Rage, Skyrim, BF3, COD TBA, and ME3 out of there respected GOTY spot.

Brink seems to have a lot of things going for it, but GOTY? Its about a 1 in a million bet.

Yeah it should release sometime this winter. Considering its widespread popularity, it probably has the best chance of winning GOTY imo

Naw, I still gotta side with BF3. Dice is squaring off against the next CoD which you know is going to have the strongest running for "the flock". Dice has already drawn the line and plans to smash CoD head on. I mean, its honestly the closest we may get to a "personal" show down in video games. Dice is tired of Taking second best in the FPS category to a clearly second rate game so theyre really pulling out all the stops.

In all likelihood BF3 will take best shooter, it should definitely blow CoD out of the water. I just don't know if it'll be able to beat ME3, considering it's the conclusion to a critically acclaimed trilogy. I can definitely see where you're coming from though and knowing my track record with predicting these things you'll probably be right...

Well, you have a good point in it being a trilogy ender. Means that all the big wrap up cutscenes and character "emotional bonding" will be going on...so it should be very close. I just haven't seen anything on ME3 yet, what I have seen though is this:
http://www.ea.com/battlefield3
And the seeing, is pretty. lol

Now don't think I don't have my hopes up about brink though. I really have hopes that Brink will snap developers out of this stagnet CoD FPS phase we've been in for the past 2 or 3 years. The FPS needs to change and Brink and BF3 are about to do it.

I completely agree, I'd love to see Brink pull out the upset. I just don't fancy its chances in a year so full of big sequels

I see everyone brings up Battlefield 3, and I understand the reasons but I doubt that DICE will add as much fresh and new content to the genre as Brink. They will probably go on with the Bad Company line and bring us the new standards, which must be reached by every Cod-MoH-BF game further on. But Brink goes on a different way I suppose, and although it may not recieve that much hype, it's still more interesting for a lot of us.

BF3 looks very fancy with the animation, sound, scale, graphics, and destruction physics.

But...

Apart from dragging injured mates around, it doesn't seem to bring any new gameplay ideas to the table.

So its' basically just a showcase for Frostbite 2.

Brink is awesome, but with only 8 maps, it might be a bit small to make GOTY

I can see Deus Ex Human Revolution becoming GOTY, it looks very slick, and original Deus Ex is old enough for DEHR to be fresh, but young enough for peeps to remember how awesome it was.
