I see everyone brings up Battlefield 3, and I understand the reasons but I doubt that DICE will add as much fresh and new content to the genre as Brink. They will probably go on with the Bad Company line and bring us the new standards, which must be reached by every Cod-MoH-BF game further on. But Brink goes on a different way I suppose, and although it may not recieve that much hype, it's still more interesting for a lot of us.
This is a very good point and "new" is obviously where the genre should go. However, "new standards" in an already set race is where the money is. Brink is a new thing, itll bring us many new aspects that folks didn't consider in a FPS. However "new" in a battle of established big wigs, not to mention establish fan lines and genre standards will be like the new abstract artist in a world of estalbished artist. The art wont truely be appreciated till much further down the road.
Its like calling Pink the new Black. Everyone whos not "into it" will still go with Black cus its an established standard and the newest Black is the coolest thing. Where as a few might go with Pink to try it out and THEN everyone will realize how awesome it is.
Basically, we only have a year to award this, so the award is going to where the money is. CoD TBA will have a standing, ME3 will appeal to its RPG fan base but BF3 is going to be a new standard of FPSs and right now thats where everyone is focusing on...what will be the new standard in FPSs. Brink hasn't established itself yet, nor its take on the FPS genre. Soon it might be and then THAT game will be the hottest thing this side of sliced bread. Despite our daily force feeding of "we must cheer for the underdog" fact is, its usually the big bruisers that take the cake in the end.
