will brink become the game of the year?

If Diablo 3 is coming out, this discussion is pointless :)

Sadly, I have to agree with the above post by chiefredstar. Blizzard waited WAAAY too long to start putting D3 together, and by the time it comes out everyone will have forgotten about the masterpiece that was Diablo 2.

Back to the topic: I think that if BRINK can get some advertisemants going then a lot of the CoD gamers will gain interest in this wonderful work of art. As for becoming GOTY? It's too early to tell, it all depends on what the world's reaction is after day 1 is over.

i hate gear of war and call of duty and brink has a 9.5 rating by ign already for the beta its gonna [censored] all other games BRINK IS NUMBA 1

A 9.5 by IGN isn't saying much. It's a pretty unwise idea to trust big rating companies such as IGN because they're usually swayed by how much they are paid to advertise the game.

GameSpot, if I remember correctly, had such an incident. The founder of GiantBomb (again, if I'm correct) was fired while being a GameSpot reviewer because he gave Kane and Lynch 1 a mediocre rating, even though Eidos paid good money to advertise K&L on GameSpot.

I'll agree with you, but i think it has "Best new IP" for sure

Also agree with the previous (and thus unquoted) statement, as well as the quoted. If it doesn't get best new IP, I have no idea what will.

BF3 is the obvious leader. Who else has game strictly DX10 11 pushing gaming to next platform. Just for that move alone that should give them GOTY or at least GBOTY. I like the all the ideas these developers are doing here at Brink if they had this with full destruction better graphics strictly DX 10 11 they would have GOTY hands down. Cod still using same engine to build their games on from 6 years ago what is that in tech years? Crysis was cutting edge when that came out pushing gpu's & cpu's to the edge now the crysis 2 I think I can play it on my commodore 64. GOTY should go to best playing and cutting edge together equally weighted to win sadly it goes to neither.

It's competitors are:
Gears of War 3 (always gets a 9.5 or 10)
Battlefield 3
Call of Duty: modern warfare 3
Assassins Creed 3

Big titles this year and lots of them........

Intellectual Property, IIRC. Essentially, if I got the words wrong, the best new IP is for a game in a new series, or stand alone; no predecessors.

Actually, considering all the games due out this year that all look extremely good:
Killzone 3
Homefront
L.A. Noire
Gears Of War 3
Bulletstorm
RAGE
etc, etc

Brink might actually have some trouble getting GOTY

Game of the year will be Batman: Arkham city. Brink DEFINITELY is going to be in the top ten though.

Is that what it means? I thought it meant Independent Producer, but i'm probably way off.

The problem with the GOTY, is that sales and popularity get incorporated into the mix, so even a game is definitively better, if another game sells more or is more popular, it will most likely win. In the case of BRINK, I see BF3 beating it out, mainly due to sales and popularity.

That's true as well, but I do expect Brink to get some nice sales numbers. The amount of websites dedicated to this game already and the people I encnounter that already know everythign about this game suprise me

No way. Brink's definitely going to be over-shadowed by these other releases... as much as I'd love it to succeed above all else, it doesn't have the advantage of being an already-established franchise with a loyal playerbase.

Well I guess loyal, but I imagine quite a minute playerbase when compared to giants like BF, CoD or Halo.

Brink is like borderlands and timesplitters.... wait what? I've played both games extensively, and aside from being FPS they are nothing like brink, unless every trailer and interview we've seen so far is a total lie.
Borderlands maybe just a smidge (xp and leveling up) but timesplitters? I just don't understand.

The art style is very reminiscent of Timesplitterrs, especially the character models.

If I'm not mistaken, Battelefield will also release on consoles as a DX9 game. It's not so "next platform" as some people think.

Crysis was cutting edge when that came out pushing gpu's & cpu's to the edge now the crysis 2 I think I can play it on my commodore 64.

Crysis 2 is essentially the console-ised and performance-wise greatly improved version of Crysis. Talking hardware & software here, not content.
