will brink become the game of the year?

I think we all know what you think by now. You don't have to repeat it over and over again, without bringing actual arguments to the table.

Possible contenders for GOTY this year (in no particular order):

TES V: Skyrim
L.A. Noire
Battlefield 3
Mass Effect 3
BRINK
Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception
The Witcher 2
Gears of War 3
Batman Arkham City
Shogun II: Total War
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
The Last Guardian

Possible contenders in first-person shooter genre (in no particular order):

BRINK
Rage
Battlefield 3
Call of Duty ##
Killzone 3
Deus Ex: Human Revolution

BRINK has a significant chance of winning accolades for its gameplay. It also has a good chance against the contenders for the FPS genre. However, the GOTY contenders are some of the best gaming titles. BRINK will face stiff competition from them and frankly (in my opinion), the chances of it winning GOTY are highly unlikely.

This is why it's not extremely realistic for Brink to get GOT. All those titles have been anticipated by fans for years (besides RAGE), and most of them are triple A titles

I must admit, Mass Effect 3 has some wicked potential, judging by 2's awards. Not that that's truly a bad thing, I'd rather see Brink lose to a game like that than CoD or Halo any day.

Every game has potential to win, but you can't judge a sequel by it's previous installment. Look at Fallout New Vegas, everyone expected it to be the next best thiong, but it turned out a little lackluster (i played it five times though, so I was happy)

I'm not disagreeing that every game has potential nor that a game can't be based by its prequels, but when the game itself isn't released, we can at least look to them for reference points and ideas.

I think brink will definitely take FPS of the year (if they have that award) . Killzone 3 is fun but yea the movemoent is jus a lil slow and heavy feeling. I love to play it tho and I am a beast at it. But without a doubt BRINK should be right there in the runnings for GOTY

Right, but remember Black Ops. People all thought it was going to be GOTY, but it sizzled out about a month after release, which I expect Killzone 3 to do as well

Killzone 3 is extremely fun, but it isn't a perfect game by any standard. The fact that the same maps are played over and over again, and that each class is limited to three guns is terrible, and all the maps get repetitive if you play them more than twice.

maybe the top 10, certainly my game-of-the-year but it's just not getting the marketing it deserves.

It certainly has potential. It has a lot of new, potentially genre-changing stuff, like the abandonment of photo-realism for stylized hyper-realism, It has style and color rather than looking like every other fps with browns and grays everywhere. The faster-paced gameplay and SMART should be really awesome. And the mingle-player combining single player, co-op and multi player should be HUGE.

This is also true. Look at Homefront, there's ads ALL OVER THE PLACE that make me want to buy this game (which I am). There is no way people haven't at least heard of this game yet. We can only hope Brink does the same thing.

"Triple A" is not a seal of quality anymore. After all the Call of Duty games are all AAA-titles but don't improve at all and are only of mediocre quality. And Super Meat Boy or Minecraft are no AAA-titles at all, but very successful.

Also Deus Ex: Human Revolution is a RPG, not a FPS.

Exactly what I was going to say, lol! :D This year is full of good games (most are sequels, but if they are good, it's good)! So much hype (and very, very high expectations!) this year for many of these games. :celebration:

The ones I bolded are the ones I am anticipating or curious about (as well as Little Big Planet 2, which already came out and Infamous 2). So hard to choose! Must save so much money, lol!

If Brink doesn't get GOTY, then I would think it would get some good sales and other awards along with good reviews. (If it sold enough copies, it could have a "Greatest Hit" label that PS2/PS3 games have, maybe?)

has anyone heard of dead island that might be the best zombie game ever. adding on to this brink has the best character customization i have ever seen.the maps r gonna be huge and the s.m.a.r.t feature i what makes me think this game will be number 1.its completely original nothing copied being able to switch classesduring a game....legit. along with the realistic ways to actually die becuase not all people die from headshots or shots from point blank u gotta keep shooting.

We know. You literally keep saying the same thing over and over, and I think it's because you want the little star under your name. So please, stop it

Ahh.. yes, dead island that game looks surprising badass I think its like a mix of Dead rising 2 and Left 4 dead, which in my case isn't a bad idea, because I'd like to see the ability to use weapons scattered around the islands and mix them.

But back on topic:
I'm absolutely looking forward to Brink, hell everyday or so I go onto these forums looking for anything at all to get my Brink fix, but I have three problems with this topic...

number 1: Isn't too early to judge whether this game will be good or not?
number 2: Also isn't it too early to judge ALL THOSE GAMES as GOTY?
number 3: Lastly, I think we shouldn't be talking about GOTY awards until late 2011.

1.) Yes, I don't see the point of this topic as I said before
2.) Again, yes, except the games that are out, but this isn't the forums for that
3.) Not quite, GOTY is a big thing, so it should be year round

Afaik Dead Island is a RPG with zombies. So basicly a Dead-Rising-RPG.
