Halo does have a smaller audience than CoD. By quite a long way.

But the day Brink gets an audience whose size is comparable to Halo I'll eat a toenail. Every single person I know who owns an Xbox owns Halo, and those who don't have played, or at least heard of it. Whereas I had to appear as a prophet, spreading the good news of Brink to my friends who stood there dumbfounded.

I doubt it will ever reach an audience that size.

Ahh I see what you're saying. Yeah Halo is huuuuuuuuuuuuuge compared to Brink, but only because of how well it's marketed. It's not all that good.

EDIT: except forgeworld from reach. If they made Forgeworld a downloadable standalone game I would buy it in a heartbeat.

lol, how long has Halo been out? It was a launch title for the original xbox.
How long has Brink been out? How long has SD developed games for console?

So a brand new IP developed by a PC company, who up until now, has never developed a game for console, may not have a following as a big as a franchise that has had over a decade to obtain fans? Say it ain't so....

Will it hold against CoD? No. It will however still have its own smaller audience, like Halo.

...No it won't...

Well, that's to say, it won't compared to the Halos released so far. The ones that aren't made by Bungie that have yet to be announced? Well... we'll see.

He's simply saying Brink doesn't stand a chance against Microsoft's juggernaut, which it doesn't. Your point is moot because it is irrelevant.

Besides, since we're gonna go back to the original Halo's release, Halo: Combat Evolved debuted and was hailed as the best First Person Shooter... ever, and redefined the entire genre. In Brink I'm pretty sure you'll be carrying two weapons at a time and be moving with one stick and looking around with another. It got to the point that people were making games JUST to beat Halo and the term thought up for it was "Halo Killer", with the only shooter so far able to actually earn that title being Call of Duty.

Just Sayin'.

I think this year will be a very scary year for Activision, and Bobby Kotick.

There is quite the boatload of games expected this year, and among them are some FPS.

The sequel to one of the best PC FPS of all time (Battlefield 2) is coming out this year, and Dice is going for Activision's throat.

Personally, I think a better question would be will brink hold its own against Battlefield 3?

I see this year, as the year of Call of Duty's downfall. I love games, and gaming, call of duty is sweet, but they just aren't innovating, the last time they made an innovation in the series was with Call of Duty 4.

Actually, to be more accurate, you need to add "on console" to the end of that statement, because up until Halo came, console FPS games were..well, pretty much garbage, which didn't make it all that hard to "redefine the genre." Halo releasing on console is the biggest factor that lead to its success, because if it was a PC release instead, it would have just been another shooter in the sea of already established shooters on PC.
Console saved/made Halo.

You're kind of missing the point - after Brink has established a franchise and been out for over a decade, then get back to me.

1. Depends wat u like
2. Brink cant just surpass cod like that. COD has been around for years and each time made awsome trailer, something new for every game (Screw World at War though) , etc. They have frkn 7 series. Brink will need to take longer to supass cod.

It doesn't need to. Just because it's an FPS doesn't mean it's the same. Brink and CoD are very different. Call of Duty 4 was my last CoD game and I won't buy a new CoD game anytime soon.

No Brink won't pass COD but it will take some people away from it. I'm curious as to how Brink will do, I think it will be good competition for COD but I doubt it'll pass it.

This, exactly.

Activision thinks all they have to do is make a game and people will buy it.

Sadly, it happens to be that people buy every game with the COD-Label on it blindly.

Every single person I know who owns an Xbox owns Halo

Out of what? Five Halo games? Six?

CoD has nothin on Brink. After watchin numerous Brink videos, I fin myself trying to maneuver around in CoD like I see in Brink and it lets you know how far ahead Bethesda really is. No Comparison. BRINK wins TKO

Cod is pathetic, this is a much better game overall, but obviously, cod community is too big(for some reason) and not as many people know about this game. So, who know?!

Yes, I believe Brink will hold it's own.

Comparing COD to BRINK isnt 100% fair like comparing "Apples and Pears" Both are fruit that grow from trees yet their fairly different.
As BRINK has very alluring elements i am certain it will not appeal to everyone evenly. But based on the footage i've seen i believe BRINK will claim a large player pool.

Instead of Apples vs Pears. It belive its more like a Twinkie(COD) vs a Mango(BRINK). The Twinkie full of sugar tastes delicious at first and its full of empty energy which will give you a short boost. Since it runs out real fast you have to get another twinkie to get the feeling again. The Mango on the other hand taste great, but with less sugar, and its energy will last you longer because it is natural. The flavour is original and is very hard to copy.

If Treyarch keeps making CoD games it will.

:disguise:
YEEEAAAAAAAAAHHH!

Anyway... Its definitely in my hopes that Brink takes people away from CoD, I never was a CoD fan, but if it doesn't at least we get the pleasure to know we get to play against everyone on these forums, and the people who get curious as to what Brink is.

I beg to differ. I own and play most new releases on my xbox and have not owned a halo game since halo 3. I hate halo and cannot stand its looks sound or game play. Brink will be successful but COD success is almost embarrassing. I know at least 5 people who own an xbox and just play COD. Thats the sad part of cods audience,80% of it is made up of non gamers,or "high casual" gamers who only play COD and do so for a few days then never touch it again. The ultra competitive "pro"(use the term loosely) are not helping its situation either. These are the idiots who will pay the 15$ for rehashed maps and slowly killing the FPS genre since 2009. DLC used to conjure images of new places and maps, now its just "what part of the SP will be chopped up and sold back to me as "new" maps.

brink is the only game that has potential to defeat cod and it will the reason why is this people keep drawing more and more players to brink and if that person keeps racking up we will have enoough plus halo is another threat

I love brink a ton but COD has to go bye bye, battlefield 3 is the game I would wager to put cod in the ground. :gun: I just count myself lucky Bethesda is publishing brink and not slacktavision or "you have to do it in half that time and 1/5 the budget" electronic arts.

Kids haha

I guess you've never heard of the N64?

This is why I hate posting on forums, too many kids that are so young they think Call of Duty was the first FPS ever made.

I also love the assumption that a game needs to be well known before it can make as much money as Call of Duty.

Clearly you aren't very familiar with the gaming industry.

That's because it works and all the mindless people buy it, and they'll milk it, and milk it, and milk it and milk it, until it's not worth the effort anymore, just like what happened to Guitar Hero. Except I don't see this falling as fast as GH did, since you don't need to buy a rather expensive peripheral to play it...
