Will Brink hold it's own against COD?

Post » Fri Apr 08, 2011 9:54 am

I want to hear it from you guys, do you think Brink will bring everything to the table, draw some people away from cod, and be the start of something new for FPS's? I think COD is great and they have changed gaming for sure. But, to me its just getting old, I want to know what everybody thinks. I'm hoping this is a best seller. 2 months till release and i am already excited for the game to come out.

It better draw some people away from CoD. In the beginning you actually had to have skill to play in that game, but after it hit mainstream people just decided to do nothing but quickscoping, or T-D in Search and Destroy. Hardly anybody ever actually goes for objectives anymore, because there isn't really a penalty for screwing around. This isn't the case with BRINK. If you're not helping your teammates then you won't receive any exp, it's that simple.
Hopefully this way everyone will get to have fun, no matter what they decide to do.

No Brink won't pass COD but it will take some people away from it. I'm curious as to how Brink will do, I think it will be good competition for COD but I doubt it'll pass it.

If Treyarch keeps making CoD games it will.

Brink, to me, is a revolution in FPS gaming. New elements and styles of gameplay makes it one stiff challenge for Activision. Besides, Activision thinks all they have to do is make a game and people will buy it. With Brink coming soon and Battlefield 3 later in, this is gonna be one hell of a reality check for Activision. Furthermore, I am done with CoD games for good.

Let's put it like this. Your trying to shoot a blackbird(COD) with a Chinese Type 99 Tank (BRINK). Won't work.

Same here dude. I've brought up brink in conversation so much I'm actually annoying them. All they ever say is "thats cool" and change the subject. I can't even tell if any of them are going to get the game or not.

Also no I don't think this will beat COD. I don't think enough people know about it.

Brink will be a better game, but there is no accounting for the taste of the average COD fan.

It will be a much better game, though that's not saying much, but it won't kill the mob.

Thats like Apples vs Oranges. 2 completely different categories and no true winner. Only thing in common is they are both FPS's

Brink will win in different categories against CoD, and vice versa.

But it will not take down CoD that's for sure

No way in hell lol.

I was talking to my little brother about games earlier (he is 13), and I always tend to make fun of him for thinking CoD is the be all, end all of FPS. So I asked him why he doesn't like other games, this is what he had to say (in a nutshell, not word for word...): He hated MAG because it wasn't like CoD, he hated KZ2 because it wasn't like CoD, he hated BC2 because, take a guess, *gasp* it wasn't like CoD.

In more detailed terms, he hated all of those games because there was some amount of recoil, you have to wait to respawn, there are no killstreaks, and it takes more than 1/2 a bullet to kill somebody (the fact that he could shoot first, and still be killed by his opponent baffled him xD). His friends also think the exact same way.

In short, and not using my little brother as an example; there is no pleasing CoD fans unless you give them CoD, and only CoD. Even games that try to completely clone CoD will fail because it does not have the name CoD slapped on the cover.

I'm sure Brink will be successful, and it is definitely a breath of fresh air into an otherwise bland genre, but once people realize camping in a corner trying to farm kills will not get them anywhere, they will cry about it and stop playing. I could be wrong though as this is just speculation...

You have to remember that BRINK is catering to a different type of gamer here.

COD fans simply like COD because it's a casual player's FPS. There's no actual need for skill; you just pick up and play. The perks handle the rest for you. It's why it's so appealing: all you have to worry about is running, gunning, reloading, rinse and repeat as desired. That wasn't COD before, but that's what it is now.

BRINK, on the other hand, is team-oriented, and puts a very big emphasis on helping others, for a change. The word "team" actually means something with BRINK. You all need to work together and you all need to use the abilities granted to each class to their fullest extents. You're not going to win because one player on your team scored the most kills; heck, you're not going to win even if your entire team was comprised of COD players. Why? Killing is second to teamwork. BRINK is fostering a sense of comradeship, even if for just thirty minutes, where you actually bond with your teammates.

In essence, BRINK is a tactical shooter. You need to bring actual skill to the table and you need to rely on your teammates (and they you) to win. BRINK's gameplay is very capable of topping COD. But COD always will prevail because of its relative ease.

Will it hold against CoD? No. It will however still have its own smaller audience, like Halo.

BRINK will be a better game, will it topple CoD? no,CoD has to many followers who just want to play with their friends, their friends have CoD so they buy CoD, this repeats over and over and over.

I kinda hope it doesn't to be honest... do you want CoD addicts playing Brink... I don't personally... and I don't mean the people who play it but don't worship everything activision does with the words Call of Duty on it.

It can't compete with COD, for the simple reason that COD caters to the most basic form of FPS - TDM, DM and CTF. It is also so easy to play. Players who are good at it, aren't going to move away to a game they have to learn how to play and be good at. The same thing happen to BC2. COD players came over thinking they were goona tear [censored] apart, and instead were in for a rude awakening. Then they game - "this game svcks!" "This game's too slow!" "blah, blah, whambulance!" Plus, the fanbase is a completely different crowd. In real life terms, COD is like Football, whereas Brink is like Chess.

BRINK will be better than COD but COD has such a name with so many 8 year olds shooting friendlies on hardcoe mode to steal their care packages (don't even get me started) that they will continue to do just that. I play COD myself every once in awile (MW1 is still the best) and everything Brink does belittles COD's dysfunctional and narcissistic game mechanics. It has enough people who are satisfied with it and are quite comfortable living on the yearly releases and will not like how selfishness will not reward in BRINK. I wish COD would retire.

That's how I think it will turn out, jussayin.
As much as I'd love to see Brink as the replacement for CoD in the "Gaming spotlight," I don't think it will happen.
