I tried searching and could not find an exact answer, but looking at the recommended specs, they suggest DX11 cards. Though if it uses DX 11, or OpenGL API though, I do not know

I believe the answer is yes. I do not have a source for this though, I just remember a fellow poster mentioning he was getting it for PC purely because of DX11. So... If he did HIS OWN research then yes. If he was just assuming, then maybe. :] Im getting it for PC ether way... I cant live without my mouse and keyboard.

Yes, BRINK uses OpenGL, not DirectX.

Yes, BRINK uses OpenGL, not DirectX.

idtech4 is openGL

as it apears most people here have no idea why that is an answer. openGL is the open source competitor to direct X, instead of being saddled with which direct x level the game is it's saddled with which openGL level your video drivers are.

so when brink launches you WILL have to update your video card drivers or else the game will potentially not work at all. openGL is updated far more frequently and is cutomisable per game to have new features. it means new video card features make it to consumers faster. and all shader model 5 (directx11) features are available to all platforms as long as the hardware is sm5 (ps3 is sm3, xbox 360 is sm3.5, pc ranges from sm2-5, brink appears to be using 3+ so update your video cards you cheapskates.

sadly however openGL is not as robust as direct x, if a feature is not supported by the hardware renderer, it tends to continue trying to render it via software, usually this results in extreme slowdown or outright crash to desktop. UPDATE DRIVERS.

the anti microsoft brigade all love openGL, at least the theory of it, personally i think direct x is faster and far more reliable as a bad video driver wont make it completely unusable. but it's worked for Id for over a decade so what do i know.

Might want to point out where people can get the drivers, moose?

As a good developer, Splash Damage will hopefully include the according driver in their setup routine, though.

your video card drivers are available from nvidia or amd. microsoft completely absolves themselves of openGL as they already provide direct x.

so the video card guys have to implement openGL for developers

amd tends to do poorly by openGL so nvidia users will probably have the advantage in playing brink for performance etc.

http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx | AMD drivers, formerly known as ATI

http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us | nvidia drivers

if your not aware what your video card is,
xp users, click start-> click run, type dxdiag then enterwhen the window opens click on the display tab and the top line of stats should describe your card, although this is upto your cards manufacturer and it may be useless gibberish

on vista/win7 in the search field simply type dxdiag, then click on the icon or press enter when it shows up at the top of the list, once again your display hardwar is the top line of the display tab

on win7 it looks like this

edit: if your dsxdiag says you have an intel something in that display tab...pick up your pc/laptop walk to the highest window in the house. get a good wind up and throw. your not running brink or anything more advanced than a valave game and even that's debatable

How well do you think an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730 with 1gig of memory will run Brink? I have 4 gigs of RAM and a core i7 processor (this is a laptop by the way).
It runs Day of Defeat Source and Counterstrike with no lag whatsoever on the highest settings, I know that Brink is far more advanced when it comes to graphics, but those are the most modern shooters I have on this computer.
It runs Oblivion flawlessly on full settings also if that helps lol

you'll be fine, although it might get a bit warm for a laptop. brink will certainl,y push the hardware alot harder than those shader model 2 engines ever did. (yours is sm5) all of the games you mentioned are designed for ATI's 9800 cards which was a long time ago.

Alright thanks :)
I do know that my laptop has a great cooling system. (at least that's what I've read on the owner's forum), so heat issues should hopefully not be an issue.
