Will collision detection ever be added to this game?

Post » Thu Jan 30, 2014 10:51 pm

I'm interested in this game, but the collision detection I've seen in the available videos looks horrible. Will this ever be improved? It looks like the melee attacks go right through enemys, or just miss completely. It seems like you're fighting ghosts in every gameplay video I've watched. This is a deal breaker for me unfortunately.

Why is this something you wouldn't want? I'm not really talking about making players unable to walk through each other. That would be nice in PvP but doesn't seem that important in PvE. I'm talking about running through mobs and the actually swords and axes not feeling like they're even hitting the mobs. Something about that seems horribly off.

Collision detection is unlikely to be added. They didn't include it for both game design and performance reasons, and while they could rethink the former, the latter aren't going to change.

I'm of the mind that even if they could offer a limited version of collision they would never do it.

MMO players are a different breed - many of them like playing without it.

I don't care about collision detection in PvE, but large scale PvP without is a joke.

"Form a line to protect the healers...wait...don't bother, the enemy can run right through you."

Enjoy playing your game at 2 FPS.

Realistic collision detection in an MMO is not going to happen any time soon.

We had it in EQ1 and AC1 (and UO, but I am not sure if that is a good example). The first MMO without CD was DAoC. I [censored]ed about it then too.

Yeah, it was in AC1 and it was great. It was also in others (Age of Conan if I remember). I know this isn't an MMO but collision detection like that in Chivalry Medieval Warfare really makes you feel like you're fighting with real weapons.

I wouldn't say that it will never happen, but it is unlikely.

Not being able to run through mobs would be a deal breaker for me.

In AC dungeons you could retreat to a choke point and make the critters come at you one at a time, unfortunately EQ didn't enforce CD on monsters very well so that trick didn't work there.

It's a non-issue, mostly because it's moot.

They have said it's not in the game for design reasons, and I am 99.8753% sure (with a margin of error of 5%) they will never add it.
