will we be comfortable with weapon parts and appearances?

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 12:42 am

I've seen the new weapon building system at E3 and I was just worried about one thing before the new game will release. so worried that I joined the forum to ask you guys.

Do you guys think that we can use this system, make our guns stronger with the parts we collected/created, and still have gun designs that we are comfortable with?

For example, say you want to make a gun based on your favorite, real-life gun. however, in order to make it, you need to equipped parts that will make the gun weaker. Or you are a pistol fan, but in order to make your favorite pistol have more damage/accuracy, you need to install a part that will turn it into a riffle.

though their could be skills and perks in the game that would make these weak parts stronger, there could still be stronger enemies in the game and players that like to challenge themselves with hard modes.

i especially want you guys to take some thought into this before the games release.

That is the problem that I always found when I play some games :( Some armors/weapons are more good-looking than the others, but they are weaker and inefficient... Some builds are cooler e.g. close-range brawler, but they are in some ways (or most ways) inferior to other character builds...

For example, in FO:NV, some who aims to play a survivalist will take the Survival skill for healing and such, yet it is inferior than characters utilising the Medicine skill...

Sadly, effectiveness and efficiency is often at odds with aesthetics/preferences...

But it's OK though. It only depends on how you want to play. The efficient, effective way, or the fancy, inefficient way? It always depends on your mood.

I never thought of it like that. I now share your fear, friend.

Functionality and results are key over superfluous aesthetics when it's your ass on the line in the wasteland.

Do you want to look cool or min/max? Asking for the best weapons to look the coolest makes every other weapon ultimately worthless, because there's no reason to use them in the long run.

Either way - New Vegas had 2 nice mods I'm find of named "Signature weapons" & "Signature armor". What they do is sort of leveling your weapon or armor and giving them bonus stats. In a way it's very overpowered, on the other hand it let's you use an underpowered weapon and roleplay you mastering that weapon and don't have trouble with high level enemies. You could start with a simple 9mm pistol and have that turn into your personal weapon of doom if you play it long enough.

I'm very much hoping to see something similar for FO4 eventually.

Yup, that's what I like to think when I have to sacrifice my fancy playstyle early game when going to mid game :)

I must admit that I've often wished for something akin to that last part, though not overpowered, for the aesthetics. I just simply like some weapons looks more than others.

I doubt that this will be a big Problem. Bethesda games are never really hard, so there should be no problem if you choose style over effectiveness.

I don't care about stats. I use whatever weapons and armor appeal to me at the time and (even more important to a roleplayer) that are appropriate to the character I'm playing. As Aquan said, these games don't require powergaming.

In past games you've never actually needed the biggest baddest weapon to defeat your foes.. they just make defeating them easier. (or messier, or sillier.) Usually, it's been more about how much damage your character can sustain rather than how much you can dish out. Also, since strength was a major factor in what weapons you can handle well, I doubt there will be a lot of having to turn a pistol into a rifle just to be able to make it a better weapon. I think the demo was showing more of "look! you CAN turn your pistol into a rifle." I think it also shows that you can down grade weapons.. find a plasma rifle and turn it into a plasma pistol.

You can generaly in Bethesda games go through the game with pretty much anything, there might be exceptions but I wouldn't worry about it too much. If you play on PC you can very easily change the damage or armor rating of things. I did that a couple of times to make some weopons more comparable.

Mods will sort out any problems. Easy enough to swap around stats :P

Judging by BGS games and many other games, I believe the same will apply for Fallout 4. I dunno, I kinda like the balance. It's the trade off that gives you something to want or not want. Walking about with stats like a badass while looking like one isn't a bad thing, but kinda feels like it's missing balance in being rewarded for your choice of gear. Because now everyone can do it! You standing out for being unique no longer applies.

In NV you can manage the style with function. For example, with cowboy perk and HP ammo, ranger sequoia do 35 more damage points then a AMR (dmg 145 x dmg 110 from AMR) against a enemy without armor, like cazadors.

so, maybe we have this kind of balance in F4.

Not...really. The cutting element would be that long, sharp edged thing on top of the hilt. The part you bonk people with.

Never saw the point in min/maxing in Bethesda games. I ran around in raider armor until level 15 the first time I played fallout 3 because I thought it looked cool. So long as you don't stand in the open and let yourself get pelted with bullets you'll be fine.

Heh. I always chose my weapon based on ammo availability. In Fallout 3 it was assault rifles because turning in technology to the Outcasts made 5.56 ammo the easiest to stockpile. In New Vegas, the Gun Runners made things easier but I tended to carry at least 3 weapons of various flavors and ammo still figured heavily in determining which I was using at any given time.

Guess I'm a pragmatist.

If you put in enough effort then any theme can work. Is it the most efficient method to fight a Deathclaw with a Nailboard? No but it can be done with enough dedication...and stimpacks

unless the deathclaws can insta-kill you if you let them get to close like that death animation shown in the trailer... if so.. good luck trying to melee one.

perhaps a plasma shotgun might do the job in that situation though or a cryo shotgun to keep it away from you by slowing it down ;D

I hope there is a better looking assault rifle in the game. Not liking the Lewis MG taped to a 2x4 look. In any way whatsoever.
