Will console owners be displeased?

Post » Mon Jan 12, 2009 3:08 pm

I find it that strange how everyone notes that console owners will not get the best experience. I know that most consoles only have about 256MB VRAM (which I think should be increased at some point) and that the PC is far superior to that. I heard the PS3 delivers a better experience than the Xbox 360 so I purchased the slim 120 GB model. Before I got my PS3 I would constantly upgrade my computer for the best experience, I had two graphics cards and a superior power unit that enabled me to enjoy Crysis on "Very High" settings. Whenever I watched a Cryengine3 demo I noticed that the PC version offers a a slightly better experience. I was questioning my investment. I was very pleased after playing a few games on my PS3 and I stopped worrying about whether or not I would get the best experience. Thanks for everything Crytek!

Sincerely Gamerkid700 (on PSN)

The experience will be different on both consoles, visually.

But gameplay wise, we all should receive the same. I just prefer the PC since you can get alot more out of it (Modding being the highest 1's).

I also own a PS3, I own many games like Uncharted 2, Killzone 2, MGS4 etc. and all those games are great. Crysis 2 will be joining them.

I'll be getting Crysis 2 for PC when I get a new PC. But for now though, the future is a little too bright for my eyes to take. :P

Also, to answer your question: No, not really. But we'll have to wait and see for ourselves.

The gameplay will be the same on all versions, the only difference will be the graphics.

If the console users are displeased, we will also be displeased (most likely). It will be very hard for Crytek to find the best of both worlds as they develop.

It all depends on the gamer, and how you play. Graphics wont be the same for all version, however the story and gameplay will be the same all thru out.

PC will always get a better experience bacause you can always upgrade it (GPU, CPU, etc.) Still, the key element of a game is its gameplay, which will be the same on all platforms, I'm sure Crytek will take care of that.

Of course if the developers don't push both consoles total processing power to the best of their abilities then people will be ticked off wouldn't you be after how much crytek hyped this game up to be on consoles?

The way I understand whats been said in variouse interviews, is that basically the performance has been optimized to get the best from all three platforms.

The important thing really is the gameplay as has allready been said, what each individual gets from the game and also how they play the game, will be the deciding factor for each individual.

I dare say a few gamers will be a bit dissapointed, but Crytek will have done the best they can, to give us all a great game experience, you cant please everyone all of the time, but you can try, lol . :-]

@Guss600 actually, physics, visuals & ai are just as important this generation in gaming because gamers want smarter enemies that behave more realistically ,more accurate physics that behave more realistically & more attention to detail in visuals to create a much more richer immersive experience for gamers.

Sadly I think it will be like Mafia 2 for PS3 gamers.
It will be a PC port to 360 then ported to the PS3. Maybe Crytek will offer up some DLC as in consolation like 2k did.

watch the new multiplayer gameplay on IGN's youtube channel or somewhere else if you can find it - thats the xbox version. technology wise its revealing a lot more than the central station singleplayer demo did:

watch that draw distance, then the player's accurate shadow when he jumps down from the roof. there are sunshafts, depth of field, and motion blur on individual objects!!! the particle effects are incredible, a lot of particles cast their own deferred light, there are even lens flares from shiny surfaces like the metal roof towards the end.

how would console players be disappointed by the technology of this game? that was just the graphics, in the next singleplayer demo i bet we'll see the deformable objects and general physics features.

I dont think anyone will be disappointed because the game will be supposedly maxing out all the consoles the their potential so we will be getting what we all are used to. We should all be perfectly happy with what we get and I think at least I will be more than happy with what I am getting

Well, your pc would've maxed out crysis 2 at max settings too, since they've stated crysis 2 will run better.

Overall, if you wanted the best experience then it was a bad investment, but if you enjoy the ps3 exclusives that you couldn't get on pc (and at the same time weren't a fan of the pc exclusives) then it was a decent investment :D

The best bet is to always keep the two platforms anyway, i have a 360 and a high end pc capable of maxing crysis 2 without breaking a sweat, and even though the 360 is hardly used, it's nice to have the option for when something like halo reach comes out :)

Crytek has said before that all 3 will look similar until you reach higher settings with the PC version. I would get it on my PC but the thing is my rig is medium and to run this game on here I would suffer and I would rather go with my 360

Crytek said Crysis 2 will look best on the pc. I can confirm that.
The Ps3 version will look bit better than the 360 version.
If there werent any console versions .. we would now have a better Cryengine 3 who would be capable of bringing real photorealism. Of course you have to wait 2 years till the hardware can match up to it.. ( just as is was with crysis 1) but at least it would be a huge step forward like Crysis1 was. Damn you consoles!!!!

i agree with bigboulder the 360 looks good but does not have the power,ps3 will look a little better than the 60 one while the pc game takes the cake :)

Crytek is probably the most advanced company when it comes to making games that take advantage of everything thats available. Now with consoles, Crytek has a fixed platform that has identical specs world wide - aka they don't need to take into account different V-ram, Ram, CPU speed, etc. when making the game.

Basically they can spend the whole time going "omg the CPU is only at 98%! we can get 2% more performance" or whatever, unlike the PC where they go "hmm.. well on a dual core its at 100%, but a quad is only 56%, etc."

Basically the console version will be the best that they can do. Sure, they could do better - more time = better optimization. Theoretically they could get something like 'AVATAR' in visual quality running in real time... it just might delay the game a decade or two.

Basically, dont fret, Crysis 2 will try to eat every mb and cycle available to it - and consoles are no exception.

@ doomlord 52.

You are right in more time means better optimization.
But not that you could achieve any possible graphic result with it.
( Like your example avatar)
The hardware on all 3 System have limited capabillities.
Some are higher than others. By optimizing the program code you can save "some" resources. In limiting view distance and texture quality for example you can save some more (but then you will see differences depending on what system u have).
The Engine (the code) is optimized to the max already. Because its t an optimized Cryengine 2. Now they will adjust the rest of the graphical settings for each system.
So optimization is a good thing... but its not able to go beyond the maximum hardware capabillities.
Thats because Crysis 1 was never realeased for consoles.
In order to do so Crytek would have to erase everything that is above the capabillities of the console hardware. By downgerading everything so much.. the game would definetly loose"too" much of its charm.

Yes i will be displeased with crysis 2 on PS3 unless crytek take full advantage of the PS3's best graphics rendering & anti aliasing techniques available on PS3 such as morphological anti aliasing & interactive ray tracing. Also crytek should give me the option to play crysis 2 on PS3 with the PlayStation move controller & the PlayStation move navigation controller because i should be able to have as much diversity that's possible on my platform of choice & get my $60 worth of entertainment & shouldn't have to settle for less.

Aren't you asking for a bit too much from the developer?

Hi all

In my oppinion theres no need to got any fear in the Consolesarea.

The only ones who will be disapointed will be the PC Owners cause in past all Games that are produced at all Gamingplatforms got full loaded of crap, thrash and bad Console functions. Not alone the bad Graphics also the very bad overall function of the Game.

But perhaps we all get surprised in future....
