Will Crysis 2 use API Direct3D 11 and support tesselation?

Post » Tue Feb 23, 2010 8:07 pm

Crytek always wanted to create so beautiful world as our hardware can render with "normal" frame rate. So how do you think, will Crysis 2 support the latest API and perfect technology called Tesselation? P.S. Please excuse me my English, because I live in third world (for you), - Ukraine :)

DX11 is probably an option, however, we have yet to see whether Crytek favored Ati or nVidia.
Crysis 2 might just be the game that sells DX11 once and for all, and decide if tesselation is going to be the big thing (Fermi) or not (Radeon HD 5/6-series).

The engine has DX11 support, but unfortunately we dont know if it will be implemented in Crysis 2.

Likely case would be for them to utilize Dx11 as a standard or option when playing this game, it already has clear signs of support.

I'm guessing they will go for Nvidia, first, Crysis 1 they were with Nvidia, and second Nvidia is the one who have full support to stereoscopic 3D (already confirmed for Crysis 2)

I think crytek will add tesselation to Crysis 2.
But, playing Crysis 2 with tesselation [extrem] and a "normal" Framrate"?

Maybe in 2 years... :/
Till now tesselation was only in benchmarks like "Heaven" possible. And that was a small area. Crysis 2 will be huge. Then you need 4 ATI Sapphire Toxic 5970s. And each of them costs more than 1000 $/€.

Altough it will be nearly impossible to play Crysis 2 with a good framerate, I hope Crytek will add the Tesselation effekt.

Well I think they went with the ps3 as their main console which has an nvidia gpu so I think they went with nvidia... but during an ati conference they showed their eyefinity technology playing Crysis 2 so i think they optimized it for both.

I am 90% sure from various sources that Crysis 2 will have DX11 support. As for whether they'll go with nVidia or ATI, I think they'll optimize the game for both, maybe have 2 setups or configuration versions of the game, each optimized for ATI or nVidia.

Yes Crytec said pc will and I repeat will have DX11 support. It's not possible to make configurations for each video card, there will only be one but ATI has to optimize their drivers to make Crysis run good.

That makes much more sense, but I don't know how much ATI/nVidia will try to make the drivers just for Crysis 2. nVidia has done decently in preparing for new games and making their drivers more optimized for new games, but I just started using ATI, and I have no idea if they'll do the same thing.

NVIDIA still releases drivers that improve performance in Crysis Warhead. ;) Crysis franchise is big for benchmarking, so both companies release drivers constantly that improve performance for this franchise, which is all the better for us actual players. :D

why not include tessellation, and then just ATI people can't use it? It seems more likely that it will be included, since it could add a lot of detail to the game, although crytek already has a similar effect implemented (the parallax bump mapping)

In german: Tesselation reduces Tri count, afaik and this isn't really the problem in Crysis so...

DX is mostily marketing hype imo. Just look at what Crytek can pull off with DX9. Others are superior to Crysis whilst having dx11 ;)

Cypress supports tesselation as well, but Fermi is simply designed for tesselation, meaning it's a question of 'how much', not if.

they'd be dump if they'd produce crysis 2 without tesselation.
it's not using this much power of the graphic cards.
heaven is an extreme benchmark. not worth to talk about.

if they would use tesselation to objects it would be enough.
hi-res textures + polybump at modells is enough. no tesselation needet.

otherwise it doesn't matter... the triangles just increases at things, which are coming closer to you.

I'd be happy if they include DX 11 with Tesselation.
I'd be happier if there is Tesselation and PhysX
