Will developers follow brink?

Post » Tue Jul 20, 2010 1:18 am

Hey guys I was just wondering one thing and that's if brink will be one of those games thats awesome to start and then just die really quickly because it never got patched or whatever the issue was? will the devs keep updated the game with new content and stuff or will it just be what you get from day 1?

I am pretty sure they will. They have games out now that they still follow.

SD has stated that they will offer full support for BRINK. In addition to their "necvars" that allow them to alter the game through minor detail changes, SD will probably also release huge DLC packs. They'll be expensive (1600 MSP, $20.00), seeing as Bethesda specializes in "expansion" style DLC packs, but SD knows how to make a good game and I fully trust that their DLC will be impressive.

I hope so because it may be the first DLC that I buy then.

The real question is, with the COD series seemingly relinquishing their reign of FPS king, will Brink be able to take its place as the well...alpha series?

I hope so.

To a team-based gamer, BRINK will be a serious contender (not sure if Battlefield 3 counts as a team-based game).

But COD won't be knocked off of its spot easily. The complexity of BRINK will turn away those used to the simplicity of a COD game.

Sorry to break the news, but there is really no way in hell brink is gonna de-throne cod.
Brink will be more of a niche game, and Chances are most devoted cod players will hate it because of the lack of rushing and instakilling.

The only game I see with the potential to de-throne CoD is bf3, but that is only if dice has managed to go back to theyr roots, like 1943, bf2. Lately they've been nothing but a puppet to EA's greed.

I'm going to say yes for 2 main reasons.

1. it's SD and they are 1 of the better developers for supporting their games.

2. Most important. This could be a cash cow for them. Meaning this could be a franchise they could build around very easily. So if they allow it to die they would only get the quick hit money and lose on the BIG MONEY from numerous sequel potential. You don't have to go through all the other stuff of answering questions like what it's going to play like because you already know what Brink 1 was so of course 2 will be different but the general core play is usually the same. Fan base already there all the infrastructure is in place so it would be just dumb to blow all of that which took time and money to build. It's always cheaper and easier to sale to old customer you have then to market to new customers.

On the PC, Counter-Strike and Counter-Strike: Source still have twice as many players as CoDBlops and Modern Warfare 2.
(Currently CSS has twice as many players online as Modern Warfare 2.)

I think Brink will maintain a rather large player base, especially on PC. Of course unless it svcks. People still play Counter Strike Source after all, and it's an old game.

After playing Battlefield FPS games exclusively for the past 2-3 years, I am not worried that EA will ruin DICE (yet). I only hope EA don't force DICE to rush out an unfinished game. I don't know that BF3 will unseat COD at the top of the charts, but it will be a far better game than COD.

So will Brink. There is no hope Brink will unseat COD, but we can all hope for Borderlands-esque success for Brink. As more and more people enjoy it and get their friends to play it, the bigger it will get. I think Brink will ultimately benefit from the polish and balancing it has received over the last few months.
