Will C2 DLC be free?

Post » Fri Dec 31, 2010 12:35 pm

Will C2 DLC be free (at least for PC)? Because I don't want to buy a game that gets obsolete if you don't buy the DLCs. I'll prefer another full game instead, like CWarhead

You realize that we can't know that, and the devs sure as hell won't tell us, especially not before officially announcing it, right?

You wont get an answer to this question but I would set your mind on it not being free because that is the most likely scenario. At least then if it is free it will be a nice surprise.

With EA, it goes like this:

Free on PC

Pay on Consoles.

They have to make money, they're a business. You cant get out of paying for everything you know.

Same here.

If it's a multiplayer DLC they could make a mini expansion like BC2:Vietnam but with more maps, perhaps new gamemodes and sell it in stores and online.

For the PC, yes, it'll be free, Xbox will most likely cost, unless Crytek/EA makes a deal with M$ so it's free when a new one is released.

Free on PC :D
Yeah.
That's GREAT!

And btw. EA is "only" the publisher. I think Crytek has some right to a say too ;)

I really hope it's free. If Crysis 2 doesn't meet my expectations I sure as hell am not dropping more cash for what would most likely be overpriced map packs.

Whenever developers or publishers put content (patches or DLC) out for games they must pay Microsoft and Sony. They can release content onto the PC for free however. Thats why sometimes PC versions of multiplatform games get more patches and longer support.

Because the PC is a free market with custom maps and very tight pocketed customers, while console is a closed market that often has no custom maps and a consumer base much more likely to pay for shovelware products.

Paid DLC on the PC always turns out horrible for sales and tarnishes that companies reputation in the future. Bad Company 2: Vietnam was actually a very content packed and reasonably priced DLC pack but sales on it were rather low... Most PC'ers simply don't purchase it so companies release it for free since it will equate to a better company image and higher sales/stocks in the future, and doesn't fragment the community.

well, when dlc is "free", it tends to be content that could have been on disc, EA started this with Bad Company 2

DLC on consoles has a chance to be free, as long as, for MS atleat, it doesnt have achievments tag onto it.

In Example, Last years flop of a game, AvP.... The Alien Swarm pack for PC...... 3 maps that were already available in the game as Singleplayer maps......

Didn't that end up free later anyway? I gave up on the game because of the stupid Rock/Paper/Scissors gameplay. They should have just redone the graphics on AvP2.
