Will ESO make it

Post » Wed Feb 05, 2014 10:07 pm

Personally I find this game brings nothing new to the table as far as MMO's go. There's no initial draw in factor that sets it apart from the other mmos that have gone f2p let alone the ones that aren't . My prediction is ESO will be F2P before 2014 is over.

Are you in the beta? Don't share information about it, but are you?

If it goes FTP I won't get playing anymore.

It could be successful if it provides a worthy challenge and experience.

Let's see:

Lore

PvP

PvE

Good leveling system

Not too many restrictions with skills

Huge world

Mods to fix anything which players may not like in terms of UI etc.

Appeals a lot to me. Never played beta, will play this weekend.

I don't see much wrong with the model they are using. It is set a part from other MMOs.

I also like the fact actually that apparently I will not need a huge group to enter a dungeon etc.

Ok if you really want something else... EQ Next... but I don't wanna run around all day mining resources.

Don't see this going F2P in 2014.

You dont need to reinvent the wheel to be successful.

Eso has unigue points and also shares parts of other game.

These traits describe multiple MMOs...not exactly what will make the game valuable.

Not that there is anything wrong with re-inventing the wheel, of course, if it can be a good remake.

But I very much doubt ESO will actually be "unique" in terms of gameplay. The only thing I haven't really sen done in an MMO before is levelling directly based on exploration (discovering new places gives you exp in many MMOs, but I assume it'll work a little differently in ESO) which I have yet to see yet to judge.

@OP Innovative is not a synonym for good.

Every MMO has to have these traits, it is about the execution of them I think.

Well I will see after this weekend I guess. I already pre-ordered it.

I mean even if I enjoy it for like a few month only, still is money well spent.

Agreed. And that's why I disagree with the OP.

I'm still looking for information about the end-game PvE though because I have this feeling in my gut that the "fun" of it may well make or break the game.

I found other mmo's boring and hard to understand with massive ui elder scrolls online is simple got nice first person and has the lovely feel of elder scrolls.

Ive watched a lot of game play and im really looking forward.

I think PvE in Cyrodiil will be the decider for me. In my beloved T2A Ultima Online, I enjoyed dungeon PvE with opportunistic PvP. Basically making money; when someone else comes along, try and grab their stuff without losing your stuff.

Trying to get the stuff was the fun part; I know this game won't have player looting.

Think it has a bit to do with your experience, if you have played all the recent MMO, then ESO probably not that new.

You find that other has used the same features before.

On the other hand if you have played all recent mmo you will probably also play ESO but not stick with it but jump to the next one who is released as you usually do that.

Skill system and synergies are the things I look most forward to in TESO.

So many skills to choose from to get the exact ones that suit your playstyle, regardless of what race / class you are.

Possibilities are almost endless.

I know new beta invites have gone out, but have they said that people will be able to play the beta this weekend? It could be for next weekend for example?

If they will make it so not every race can join any faction then it will be more successful. the lore is the most unique in this game and what will stand out the most... hopefully

Yes....well, I hope so. This is my last hope for a good new MMORPG, at least for many years to come =\

I believe yes. But the issue will be decided on PVP and PVE endgame about which little is known.

I think there are 2 reasons why people make threads like this.

1- They dislike the price.

2- They dislike not being able to use 100+ (slight exaggeration) abilities/buffs/potions etc, during a fight.

I think, and this is purely based on experience and opinion and not on any tangible evidence, the biggest issue I've seen with many MMOs is the lack of content. If they were to give us regular content updates to add new quests and new things to do, and then once a year hit us with an expansion and add new areas to explore and new ways to customize our characters such as skills/classes/spells/dieties/etc, then I think it'll stand a good chance of doing well. The IP is solid, they have control over it so they can do what they want, they have a massive fan base salivating over a game that most of them have yet to see, so they're off to a good start. If they can keep that momentum going it'll be a great ride for us and them.

If however, the devs become complacent or are otherwise unable or unwilling to try and meet the voracious appetite of players for content, or the game becomes limited by hardware (like some games are starting to experience with the PS3), or they allow parts of it to stagnate then I think its in trouble.

Overall I hope they look at a lot of the other MMOs out there and what they do right and wrong. There has to be a reason why WoW (even though I never cared for WoW) and UO have been going on so long and still remain subscription based after all.

I'd say you're correct on both, but there's also any number of current gripes about the game that people could substitute for their reasoning.

Fact is, they can't please everybody, nor should they try. You either take the game for what it is or you don't.

Uh, well I won't exactly agree with you there. Sometimes games do have to change and they very often do and have positive results from that.

I'd say that people shouldn't expect *drastic* changes. But games, just like everything else, need to evolve with the changing economic and social climates. Remaining in the past just means that the only audience they have is people who remain in the past.

ESO I believe is starting out on the convservative side with the MMO and game mechanics. I believe that the game will evolve quite a bit when ZOS starts rolling out Thieves Guild, Justice System, Dark Brotherhood, etc . . . Not to mention the PvP possibilities that are sure to change and evolve as the game becomes market tested and explored.

Should be well worth the subscription fee. I hope the subscription fee will not be a vote of confidence for ZOS to keep things generally the same, but instead a mandate for the the developers to crank out interesting and new content with exciting gameplay possibilities too.

The problem with these sentiments that I see is that it leaves no room for real critique. It is discounting and basically the message is: put up or shut up.

We are told it is too late in game development for feedback about changing core mechanics, but it is not like we could have been there at the beginning. Saying it is too late or any other fatalistic approach is basically saying there is never a welcome time for critical feedback. If given after the game has run its course then who is listening? It is best that the developers know in advance what people find wrong about the product and service.

It seems as though MMO game development is a model of development that heeds only what works and the rest is swept away? Being able to be innovative in this field of games is indeed uncommon. More so than in single player games.

Well who knows, I am sure the fans like myself hope that it does indeed make it, there will be haters and debbie downers around every corner, they always seem to be lurking around every game.. Not all games are for everyone, I know myself I have yet to find one f2p game worth even playing for free, and I have played a lot of them, so ESO would have to be pretty bad to reach those low standards set by f2p, but again who knows all new games can fall flat on thier face.. my Magic 8 Ball says uncertain at this time..:)
