Fallout 3 works fine on 3 seperate computers with windows 7 on them at my home. Just saying it could work properly on a windows 7 computer.

What seems to be the problem? Does Fallout 3 crash? Doesn't it work properly?
If so you might want to post a dxdiag.

The OS doesnt have anything to do with it.
Post a dxdiag.
XP: Go to Start->run, type “dxdiag” and hit enter. Click the Save All Information button near the bottom right. This will save a Dxdiag.txt in C:\ by default. Then open the dxdiag.txt and copy/paste the information into your post.

VISTA/Windows 7: Go to Start->Search, type “dxdiag” and hit enter, click the Save All Information button near the bottom right. This will save a Dxdiag.txt in C:\ by default. Then open the dxdiag.txt and copy/paste the information into your post.

When I click start a new game the game begins to load and then halfway through it closes to the desktop and says an unexpected error has occurred and caused the game to stop working.

Card name: Intel? HD Graphics

This is the problem, it has nothing to do with the OS. Its your video chipset. It is too weak to run the game, so it just crashes. The game needs shader 2.0b and that video chipset only has shader 2.0. (And since you are on a laptop, there is no chance in upgrading it).

It works with windows 7.

When a game requirement lists the windows OS version, take it as pure advertisemant (....for Microsoft).

Not entirely. Some games (like Just Cause 2), need to have a certain OS, either Windows Vista/7 for the DX10 support. Since XP does not support DX10, it will not play the game. But chances are, most of the time the OS is not the problem.

What has worked for me is:

1. CPU matches (exceeds, preferably) game req
2. GPU matches (exceeds, preferably) game req
3. directx version matches (exceeds, preferably) game req

If a game I am considering does not match any one of these, the game does not get purchased.

I used to base game purchases on OS firstly, because that is what is typically listed first as requirements.... But since acquiring this new laptop, I assumed I would not be able to run my old "XP" games on it, being that its of the 7 OS -- and those games had "requires XP or Vista".

I was so glad I was wrong. This laptop is amazing. Now my old XP games are played on highest gpu settings and, regarding FO3GOTY, its just beautiful.

I have an other thread where I've been explaining my particular problem, like many others, that no one can solve.

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1127486-fallout-3-goty-windows-7-x64/

fallout 3 is not fully compatibly with windows 7. We're too many to have that random crash thing, and no .ini files modifications will fix it.

This is the problem, it has nothing to do with the OS. Its your video chipset. It is too weak to run the game, so it just crashes. The game needs shader 2.0b and that video chipset only has shader 2.0. (And since you are on a laptop, there is no chance in upgrading it).

Ok. thanks for the help
