Will Fallout 4 stand the test of time like Skyrim?

I'm going to have to disagree with you there. Lots of RPGs have meaningful dialogue options.

Edit:

I guess maybe I just like the branch option much more than the line option. I like it when being mean or sarcastic to an NPC garners a reaction and a change in that character's attitude toward you. Being rude to say Nick Valentine and then having the conversation just continue on as normal is a lot of cognitive dissonance for me.

Wait. We do not have to become the dragonborn? Really?

I am going to look more into this.

You just can ignore Whiterun/the Jarls House and no Dragons will appear. So you can just enjoy the World without Dragons and Shouts. I dont like that either

Nah, I think you're always the Dragonborn. It's just that starting somewhere else using that mod means you're not hit with it so often. By staying away from Helgen and...whatever that town was called where that annoying priest lives...you can avoid having much of the Dragonborn stuff pop up.

I voted NO because for me it won't. I still play Skyrim and I'm a huge fan of TES.

I'm a fan of FO mainly because Bethesda creates it and I like the way they create worlds.

But, like FO3, I'll be done with it in a few more months.

But are there quest, meaning Am I eventually going to have to do all of that in order to feel I have done some impact?

I came a bit late to the Skyrim game. And I have seen a lot of threads asking, how do i start the dragonborn. Am I wrong in thinking this is the whole go kill the world eater? Was that a DLC? Was there a different ending before that DLC? My interest is peaked.

:Edit: Never mind I just watched the trailer for dragonborn, no it's a different story all together.

*Sigh*

Agreed,I enjoy Fallout too but have to be honest and admit I view it as filler between Tes episodes.

Actually it is a fair comparison seeing as how Bethesda originally wanted to release Skyrim for next gen and no I am not trying to validate the short comings of Fallout 4 at all. In fact my whole comparison is meant to show Bethesda current short comings in areas which they use to so well in. Anyhow I couldn't give less than a molerats ass about GOTY or reviews to be honest.

Are you a modder? I can see how fooling around in the creation kit for several hours might be fun but I can't imagine spending over 600 hours doing just that...

I dunno, I tried over 150 mods for Skyrim and with the exception of Interesting NPCS, Falskaar, Wyrmstooth, none of them could really save the game for me.

Guard Dialogue Overhaul did boost my immersion by like 3% I guess...

Gotta say the new TK combat looks pretty promising. I've already tried 10 different combat and AI mods and they were pretty meh.

There's like two dragonborn stories.

There's the DLC and then there's the Main Quest of the Vanilla game.

The Vanilla game is you finding out that you're the dragonborn and then blah blah blah blah blah. I never finished the Main Quest.

The Dragonborn DLC is something different.

Fallout 3 stood the test of time, New Vegas did too.

Fallout 4 doesn't even have official mod tools yet and the nexus has almost 7000 mods, in just 2 months...

To throw some perspective in the mix, Skyrim has 45,000 over the course of 5 years.

Now, granted a lot of them are character saves, but there's some quality mods out there.

This will be the first Beth game with console mods, so I expect it will stand the test of time.

Modding is the life blood of Bethesda games, it's what keeps interest going for years after their initial rocky release.

As long as Bethesda games can be modded I will probably continue to buy them. The Metacritic data is a real eye opener though. I hope Bethesda learns the right lessons from it.

Just because someone gives a game a '0' score, doesn't mean their objections are invalid.

Even worse, sometimes some of the dialogue options you have are exactly the same as another one. I remember picking the question dialogue option, loading a save, and then picking the neutral (or sarcasm) option and both said the same thing. So sometimes we only have 3 options to choose from.

It's a Fallout game so no it doesn't have nearly the same replayability as an Elder Scrollsgame.

Well if you are modder than I can definitely see spending hundreds of hours with the CK then.

Well when speaking to a merchant, The options "Maybe" and "Later" also gets the same response from the trader too. They could practically be the same option and it would make no difference.

Now I'm not trying to disparage consoles or anything, but it's pretty clear that the dialogue option was clearly designed so that console players could not only select dialogue options, but also move around and as Todd puts it "shoot em in the face if you want"

On one hand 4 options is too much for things like traders and too little for a lot of other things.

Time will tell I guess. Altho, I can't see myself spend a lot more hours than I already have. Perhaps if the DLC's are more RPG instead of more bang-bang, go kill / fetch - bring back monotony, I could play those as well, I dunno.

Did Bethesda really do all that much hyping though? I remember quite clearly plenty of people complaining about how little information there was prior to release. And for years I remember people wishing they would say anything at all about Fallout 4, even at least confirmation that they were working on it and that there would even be one.

I could be wrong, but didn't Bethesda hype Oblivion and Fallout 3 and Skyrim more than 4, and for a longer stretch of time?

Speaking for myself on the original question. I haven't bought 4 because I don't own anything capable of playing it. So I don't know, I refuse to judge it based on second hand information, and I won't have a chance to judge it for myself any time soon.

I already like this game way better then Skyrim, never finished that one even though i probably had a couple hundred hours of play time didn't like the main quest of that. Though that is my main problem with their games in general they force a one way story on you with a supposed freedom to do anything you want, but the main story always has only one way to do it, and that hasn't changed.

oh no I meant DA 1. Not the watered down stuff that came after this. The first will always be the best of the series.

No, it's not.

Witcher 3 = Excellent Story in a bland world.

Skyrim = Meticulously, detailed world with a bland story in it.

And whether they wanted to release Skyrim for next-gen doesn't matter - they never did in the long run. Plus we already got Skyrim 2.0. It's called Fallout 4.

The Elder Scrolls and Fallout can't be compared at all in that regard. Fallout 4 will stand the test of time like Fallout 3 and New Vegas did, but Skyrim is much more diverse when it comes to character creation and roleplaying (with TEN different playable races to begin with). The replay value is much higher with the The Elder Scrolls. Skyrim is a much more in-depth game, in all aspects, than all of the Bethesda (produced) Fallout games.

Fallout 4 will be played in the years to come - with mods, of course - as much as Fallout 3 and New Vegas are still played today.

Oh, I think we were on a different wavelength to begin with. I was saying that Skyrim was an influence on Inquisition and the Witcher 3, not that it was influential like Inquisition or the Witcher 3. Although I guess both statements might be accurate, not sure if future RPGs will take notes from Inquisition though.

ah nvm then. I was thinking DA 1 should've been the inspiration for all RPGs because it was so incredibly well made. Also helped the dev time for this was over some 5 years.

DA1 probably is one of the more influential RPGs, and Bioware made some pretty influential RPGs before then too. But then I'd say Morrowind and Oblivion were damn influential as well. Bioware and Bethesda seem to pay at least some attention to each other.
