Will Fallout 4.....

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 2:44 am

1) Take advantage of multiple cores? Multi-threading....

2) Resolve the corrupting save file issues that plagued Fallout New Vegas? (been playing again, and the file corruptions are KILLING me. new game, and the load-game just sits-and-spins)

3) Be updated regularly like most games seem to, now? (patches, glitch fixing, new content)

4) Tying in with #3, will Bethesda listen to the community as to new content, changes, updates, etc. - allow the community to be a more active part in the evolution of the Fallout franchise?

Feel free to continue the thread with other concerns!

I'm wondering if mods for consoles means that scripts will now be divorced from game saves so that console users can safely remove them without borking their game save.

Sir, how are we supposed to answer these with any shred of accuracy or truth without an official statement from Bethesda saying otherwise?

If they gave away content like The Witcher 3 does that would be something. I don't own W3, but I about want to buy the game just to support a company that does free content and patches like they do.

But ... I don't expect Bethesda to do any more or less than they've done in the past. Feel free to surprise me.

errmmm.....

I dunno... maybe it's a 'Hello, Beth! Wanna chime in and join this discussion" ?

perhaps?

That, and maybe some more die-hard Fallout Fans know info that I don't, and haven't been able to find thus far.

They did make a statement a few days ago about how they have learned from the various bugs in F3/Skyrim in hopes of improving future titles.

Why would you expect it not to? Skyrim did, New Vegas did, Fallout 3 did (as long as you only had two :P).

Bethesda improved patching dramatically with Skyrim. We had almost as many patches for Skyrim as we had for the rest of the Elder Scrolls games combined. I hope they continue to improve their patching with Fallout 4. We'll have to wait and see...

It's a changing field of play, in the gaming industry. It seems the more popular games (and even indie titles) are getting more and more 'community-centric', where they not only welcome input from the fans/players, but they INTERACT, and incorporate suggestions.

Witcher 3 is wonderful, what with the updates and ongoing minor additions. I've quite enjoyed it.

But I'm an absolute fan of the groups who include their fans (those people who keep 'em in business?), and invite them to show off their creations, to ask the tough questions, to test the game and make suggestions of balancing, additions, expansions, etc. Adds so much more depth and character to the game, when you can watch it 'evolve' as you play.

Do the new consoles have one core, or are they multi-core?

I don't think 4 will have the same savegame issues NV did, although there may be new ones; but Bethesda's said that their top priority in bugfixing are things that bork savegames.

Patch support will probably be a step forward from what they did for Skyrim; make of that what you will.

Bethesda obviously pays attention to their community, the way they talk about things in interviews and the kinds of things their DLC addresses; they don't actively participate in it, probably because they don't feel obligated to justify every design decision they make to the more contentious members of the community.

I can answer your 4th question for you and for EVERY company. NO, it will not, NO company actually allows the players to change the course of a game, or help with deciding content. forums ideas NEVER happen, not in ANY game, EVER.

1) I hope so. As it stands, we don't know. Personally I see 64bit engine to be a much more important feature.

2) This was fixed with Skyrim via Papyrus.

3) Probably not. If its anything like Skyrim lets hope not.

4) What else do you think them incorporating numerous mods into gameplay is? Will they come to the forums? Heck no, and they shouldn't. Forums are such a small slice of the community its a frankly stupid idea.

Howard already said that installing a mod will create a new save to play from. Removing mods will be just as dangerous as it is now. Mod correctly.

Yep, breaking Navmeshing, Lipsync, and Memory are absolutely a better patching system!

Both consoles are 8-core systems.

Most all MMO's do, there has been a growing trend there, especially.

Almost all new indies do, and their games show immense improvement. A few creative minds sitting behind the Company Desk, inside the Company Cubicle, and under the Company Thumb will never have near the creativity and ideas that the casual gamer sitting at home, not being stressed or pressured can and do. It seems even the Big Guys are recognizing this, and actually do listen to the ideas and suggestions. As has been shown in the past, you lose touch with your base, and you soon lose your company.

But, I agree with the idea that allowing Mods will help, in many ways, when it comes to this. I've seen quite a few games lately that have promoted contests for Modders to create 'expansions' on the game storyline.

And, I can see the point of "companies should never allow [whiners] players alter the course of the game"
This is especially true in ANY game that I've seen/played that had a PVP context.

NOT so true of games such as Fallout.

Besides, the point wasn't to allow players to ALTER the game, but to ADD to the game. And as the Company listens and makes the decisions on how those ideas are incorporated, then you don't get the drastic break from story that you otherwise would.

But at the end of the day, just wondering.... Experience has shown me it can be good, so here's to hoping for the positive.

Bethesda definitely pays attention to the modding community; I mean, are there any other AAA developers that encourage and support modding to the extent Bethesda does?

Bethesda also seems pretty aware of what's talked about in these forums, or at least how some of their choices are controversial; they had the same concerns about a voiced protagonist that everyone is expressing now, for instance.

1. Don't know.

2. Sounds like yes, I recall an interview with Todd Howard talking about how save corruption and other game-breaking bugs are being focused on being fixed rather than the odd quirk (like Skyrim's bucketheads and dragons flying backwards).

3. Yes. Skyrim and New Vegas got patches so Fallout 4 will too, certainly.

4. Don't know.

It most certainly is better than releasing just two or three desultory patches per game and then moving on, which is what they used to do.

I never claimed Bethesda's patching of Skyrim was good. I said it was better. And I stand by that. But - and I will repeat this because you either can't read or didn't take the time to read my entire post before firing off your snotty and irrelevant reply - I hope they improve on the patching they did with Skyrim in the future. Because there is room for improvement. There is always room for improvement.

I think it was actually Todd who said that your unmodded save-game would be kept separate from the modded ones. Hope that helps :)

I would rather they stay hands off than break stuff at a level that the community cannot fix. That isn't snotty, that is looking at the general trend and stating what is best for the consumer. Especially with modding coming to consoles.

So, if the consoles are multi-core and have well above 4GB of RAM accessible to the games, it would stand to reason that the same applies to the PC version of the game, right? I wouldn't be surprised if Fallout 4 required a 64-bit OS. I think.

4. Please, only the really quality ones. Most of the "suggestions" you find on gaming forums are really whinges about how "x" doesn't suit someones personal preferences.

Please Bethesda, do away with fast travel, even though it's entirely optional, it ruins my immersion, so no one should have it because even if I don't use it, it's there, it's happening again! My brain. My hot... steaming..... BRAIN!!!

Don't get me wrong, some ideas are great, and they often get made into mods, but an overwhelming majority of them are truly terrible.

Bethesda have been working on the game for many years, it is pretty much done and can be played 4 months today.

Will 'fan feedback' be incorporated?

No. Nor should it be.

However, I expect lessons from Skyrim and Fallout 3, will have influenced Fallout 4.

Fan feedback about Fallout 4 will influence Elder Scrolls VI and whatever in the future.

Seriously....

What's with the hate toward game developers listening to their player / fan base and incorporating those ideas into the game. Whether by expansions, added content (think Witcher 3), or other ideas (besides player-created mods).

What better way to keep a game alive and 'fresh' than allowing new ideas to come in, and base those upon the 'popular' responses from the players?

It's almost a certainty that the Modding community can go only so far, based upon the limitations of the release version. Expand those horizons with DLC, free expansions, etc - and incorporate new material, new Modding capabilities, etc.
