Will we finally get a gay romance this time?

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 8:58 am

Fallout New Vegas was woefully lacking in this area, just one guy at that ranger's statue outpost with whom you could do nothing at all except say a few gay-related lines.

It kinda ruined the game for me, to be honest.

Let's hope Bethesda devs are not so homophobic this time around.

So the lack of a gay romance makes them homophobic? That's some interesting logic (especially since Bethesda didn't develop New Vegas).

Just curious how you would react if someone posted here stating that the game is ruined for them because of a potential gay relationship?

How exactly does that ruin the game for someone? It should be noted since you're name calling the devs... that in Skyrim you could have same six relationships. So... you can take your foot out now.

Lack of diversity if obviously homophobic, clearly doesn't matter if Bethesda want to tell a story, like they clearly do, about a married man with a child.

Well, if it's anything like Skyrim, it'll stay pretty neutral. Same six relationships will be possible, but the npc in question will probably never actually acknowledge it as a gay romance.

Veronica is lisbian, I think ex-enclave scientist is gay, and Cass is implied to be bi-sixual. There's plenty of positive gay characters new Vegas.

In 3, you can have a relationship with a prostiute, and the implied crush with your best friend as a female. So the option is there.

Because you step down from a previously achieved standard, like from Mass Effect and Skyrim, even Fallout 2.

I am for gay people but against lisbians. More gays mean less competition but more lisbians mean less girls to choose from when dating.

If it's heterocentric because of story restrictions then yes actually FO4 lost a quality that Bethesda and previous Fallout games had.

I don't consider the married man/woman concept as restriction btw.

Oh no, I don't care for lisbians, they are always the easy obnoxious way to go.

All the humanoid companions are bi in F4. So if you're male and you hit on another male, it's a gay relationship. New Vegas was developed by Obsidian, not Bethesda.

But since you want to badmouth the devs without doing ANY modicum of research, you can go back to tumblr with the rest of the social justice whiners.

There were a few NPCs that you could use the gay speech perk with, notably Arcade Gannon. There wasn't too many though, but at the same time, is was likely about even with the other straight and gay (Ladykiller, Char...something Flame). None of them could be used that often.

Romance and relationships is something BGS hasn't tackled in depth, so calling them "homophobic," especially on a game they didn't develop is rather childish.

As far as romance in this game, companions are "player-sixual," meaning they will romance with you regardless of whether you are a male or female. Use Dragon Age 2 as an example of what player sixual means. It's unlikely the companions will explicitly state their sixual orientation such as was the case in Dragon Age Inquisition.

This is very worrying too.

I hope that you can choose to be a closeted gay forced into hiding and marrying a woman, instead of actually forced to be a straight man.

You can romance your (human) companions regardless of gender.

Bethesda are prejudiced against bestiality and robot love, though.

Long live FISTO!!

To be honest I have nothing against gay people but I am sick and tired of games shoving all kinds of demented sixual options in our faces.....Dragon Age Inquisition really to the damn cake on that one with a mutated gay animal hitting on our player.....I mean are you freaking kidding me? Now all of a sudden bestiality is considered progressive and acceptable? That's the kind of stuff I'd expect from Fallout but at least Fallout lets us kill potential companions rather than force us to deal with them. The achievement for Fallout 4 related to companions only requires five and we know that twelve as possible so it is refreshing to be able to apply the boot where it belongs.

It's ok to be gay if there are no women in a 10 mile radius. My druid friend assured me of this.

I'm not homophobic in anyway... but these types of arguments have always annoyed me. I get it, some people are gay, however, that is a small portion of the population. Just because people left out the option to have a gay romance in a game does NOT make them homophobic. And they don't NEED to add the option just to appease some people. Bethesda is trying to tell a story and if that story doesnt involve the protagonist as gay, then everyone needs to respect their decision.

Well, I will respond you without entering in the political polemic. YES All characters are bisixual and you could romance, whatever person, no dogs or Codsword... Yeah. they ask Bethesda about that. I am straight myself, but I think this time I would rp a Bisixual girl forced to marriage because she got pregnant. You have to understand that life pre war was racist and homofobic. So a marriage of a gay with other six it was the norm if you wanted live freely.

But it was still hetero-centric development, you marry them after you have six with them because the man gets the option of the women and the women the man.

This isn't true either. Being bisixual literally means you are sixually attracted to both genders. This is not what BGS is accomplishing in Fallout 4. It's the same approach BioWare used in DA2 and what BGS did in Skyrim. The sixual orientation of the companion is based on what player's preferences, meaning the player determines whether the companion is "gay" or "straight." In other words, all companions are "player-sixual" as their orientation is based purely on what the player dictates. That's not being bisixual.
