Will I be forced to PVP?

Post » Sun Mar 02, 2014 11:54 pm

Hi,

So all I hear people talk about in zone chat is getting to Cyrodil and PVP...

My question is: Will I be forced to PVP? I guess I am in stonefalls right now. After I am done with this zone, will I be thrust into a PVP zone and have to deal with all of that? is the entire game centered around it?

I would prefer to continue to quest and explore in PVE without having to deal with ANY pvp...

In beta, you cant visit deshaan so if you are done with stonefalls the only thing left is pvp. and yes they are putting great (but not total) emphasis on gong to pvp.

Sadly no you won't be forced to PvP. Open world PvP seems to be a dying form of gameplay sadly. Too many people not wanting their "single player MMO" experiences interrupted that game devs started listening, despite the awesome gameplay potential that comes from PvP sandbox environments like open world PvP (see EvE).

I don't mind certain zones or a few zones that are PVE but with open PVP/ganking. Similar to contested zones back in good ole WoW days... But I dont want the entire world to be this way. Sometimes it is just relaxing to grp up with a few people and complete some quests.

Also, my question was not for beta. It was for live launch of the game. From what youre saying is that at launch the other PVE zones will open and there isnt any forced open world PVP?

Why is it "sad" that you aren't forced to PvP? Honestly, I wouldn't want to be forced to do something if I have no interest in it.

It's not forced but it's recommended. You can get Ebony in Cyrodil which can be used to upgrade armor, and I think weapons, tremendously! You can also get special points too, not sure what they're used for though.

Some step up to the challenge, old-school video game style. Get up, get better, fight back, get friends, get revenge, make memories for a lifetime, WIN!!!

Others cry, quit, and QQ on forums till devs change it :(

yeah but you need to have invested like 6 points into blacksmithing, which at the start of the game wont happen as you also need to have like 15 blacksmithing skill(and its not very fast to upgrade).

Who cares? If they have no interest in it, why make them bother?

UO had PvP forced onto people, and they eventually split it between a PvP and PvE side. Why? Because money talks, and a lot of the people who were fed up with it were quitting. Worse yet because you could loot their body after killing them, so most people lost more than just their pride when a band of bandits roamed through.

I did what I could to help the fight against bandits, but even then people who don't want to PvP didn't want to play anymore because it was forced onto them.

I foresee many people having "crafting alts," where all the character's skill points are put into crafting, to leave main character's skill points for combat.

I might not be playing in the same version of the game as you, but.... I've gotten one character to level 17, and haven't done any pvp. I did stick my head into Cyrodiil to look around when I hit level 10, but didn't do anything besides run around and mess with the catapults. Target practice. I then went back to Stone Falls.

Strange. I don't want to pvp. Too many of the people who have been pushing hard for it have admitted they want it so they can mess with other players, run gank squads, and generally do things that have nothing to do with the war in game.

While I do enjoy playing myself, I have found that a small group makes a huge difference in the pve. Its nice to have help. Instead of worrying that while I'm fighting npcs someone who just feels like killing something is going to shoot my character in the back.

Cyrodiil is there for people who do want it. I hope they enjoy it. I can't see myself going there for too many reasons however.

Because the people who do have an interest in it get pretty much screwed when it's removed. Bad players can get better and learn to avoid getting ganked. I however can't put open world PvP into an MMO that doesn't have it.

Why would they remove PvP? If I'm not interested in PvP then I'm not going to bother, the PvE content is on par if not better (imo) than the PvP content so I'm not going to cry about it. I also don't see how it's sad that the game doesn't shoehorn people into specific playstyles and game content, last time I checked freedom is a good thing, no?

And how are you getting screwed when people who don't want to contend are not there? The map of Cyrodiil is quite large, and there are a lot of players who are interested in that kind of combat there. People who may or may not have already achieved the "getting good" bit, and can put up a lot better fight than Joe Schmo who's out trying to pick flowers to make potions for his wife.

Those are nice ideals and all, but not everyone likes being forced to get into something when they have no interest in playing it.

By that I mean some people enjoy playing PvP all the time, and others want to play PvE and PvP on the side. So it wouldn't be handy to force it down people who have little interest in it when they are busy with the story.

PvP and AvA =/= Open world PvP

I feel like dungeons ruin my PvP experience, because developer effort and player numbers are getting pulled from PvP. Remove PvE please, it's ruining my game!

See the logic?

AvA is open world PvP? Lol okay.

And some like to play with other people, not against them. Co-op multiplayer is a thing, you know.

More like big fights around quest hubs, harassing the other alliances, defending newbies, guild battles. Best PvP experiences ever.

I'm sorry you can't get good enough to avoid gankers though.

ESO population will decrease at a dramatic rate if that were to happen.

No I don't, because there's an even balance between PvP content and PvE content. I have also never seen any lare groups of people complain about lack of either PvE or PvP content, just a few people every so often but not enough for it to be a real concern for the developers. I also don't see the problem with not having open world PvP, personally cyrodiil felt liken an open world PvP to me, since there are PvE content in Cyrodiil, and you are open to attacks from other factions while you do them, for me it felt like they solved the issue by combining the two into one area.

I concur, that would be the worst PvP experience in the history of MMORPGs.

Except I've played on PvP servers since my days of UO. I don't need to "get good", kid. As I've illustrated earlier, I ran groups to fight back the bandit players in UO. I know your view, but there are a lot of people who don't want to be apart of that. Money talks. And you wanting to gank lowbies will make them lose money.

The Cyrodiil map is large enough to have the thrill of big fights, guild battles, etc. Big enough also for small guerilla groups to thrive via stategic ambush/harassment, etc.

I also think that it's terrible that players get to choose between whether they PvP or not. Everybody knows that players enjoy spending good money to be forced into something they potentially hate.

I also believe that everyone should be forced to grind all crafting professions to max level before they hit level 50 and start exploring the other factions territories.

There aren't enough entertainers in the game either so all players should be forced to spend at least 5 hours a month emoting a musical instrument in a busy tavern.

These idiot noobs and crybaby wannabes will never be as leet as us uber players unles they do EXACLTY as we say and want and I know that they will spend hours crying themselves to sleep because they cannot reach our level of awesomeness.

/sarcasm off

Best post I've seen. 10/10 for you mate. Forcing players to do certain things would be a sure way to ensure ESO's failure.
