Will future DLC raise the level cap?

Post » Wed Aug 26, 2009 2:00 am

I know there hasn't been an official announcement for the next dlc (atleast to the best of my knowledge), but has anything been said along the lines of "each dlc will raise the level cap by xxx levels"?

I'm just wondering if i should leave the game on hold while I've still got levels to gain while playing the next dlc, or play until I've maxed out and just count on the dlc including a raised level cap.

Honestly, I'm not sure why people are so anxious for a level cap raise. Is 30 not enough?
But enough of my incessant rambling of peoples strange need for more power.

I have heard nothing of that sort, and if they are planning to raise the level cap Im not sure that they would announce it.

Also, my suggestion is to start a new game :P

I just like the ability to tailor my skill points to fit the situation, so I try and save atleast a few levels for whenever i play a dlc.

30 is plenty and 35 is better, but 40 is better-est :celebration:

i'd have to agree that raising it any higher would just be op i mean you can practically max out 4-6 skills when you reach level 35 anything else would just be insane
if anything they need to work on more perks and some better traits
the only traits i take WW and i cant remember what its called but you shoot straighter but slower

God, I hope so!

I have a character all ready to go at different levels of development. One of them is just 35 and I would dearly love to have the opportunity to develop to level 40.

To the haters: some of us don't like to be limited in character development. There is no enjoyment found in earning XP that ultimately does nothing simply because you hit a... a... [censored] cap.

Hope not, at least they have the sincerity of rebalancing the game again,

If happens, well, I have my chars limited to level 20, but too bad for console users, they cannot limit their level cap

I very much hope it does not happen, I really don't want to have to re-impose on myself the character-building restrictions I ended up using in FO3. If it does happen, though, that will free up at least two perk picks, since Comprehension and Educated would be rendered moot for me.

Probably.
The developers have to find some way to ruin an RPG, like always.
Might as well be by continuing giving us levels that mess up the very concept of an RPG. :sadvaultboy:

I think its not the level cap everyones thinking about (cause thats silly raising it), perks is what on everyones mind for character stats. I'm waiting to level up my guys so I can use the new perks.

Getting further levels, even just for perks, devalues the change in perk ratio from 1:1 to 1:2.
Just as bad to get further levels for perks as it is for skill points.
The more levels we get the less specialized our characters are and the more same-y they become.
So the whole "Choose your perks wisely as you only get 15" becomes "Ah go ahead and pick what you want, you'll get so many perks that it doesn't matter if you pick a bad one.".

Si, and with another it's 20.
Too many perks.
Should've stayed at 15 so that perk selection actually mattered.

I don't think it would ruin anything.

Every RPG I've ever played has involved raising levels. To me, the concept of RPG includes gaining in strength via raising levels.

I *hate* being limited. If I have gone out of my way to complete every quest there is to complete (sans certain faction quests of course), then I deserve to benefit from every point of XP I gain... but I can't do that currently because I'm capped. Which svcks.

edit: Perk selection is *still* difficult for me right up to level 34. I want them ALL.

To me, the concept of RPG includes gaining in strength via raising levels.

And to me the concept of an RPG is to actually have a defined "role" not a character that is a demi-god master of everything.
Raising the cap on the other hand forces me to be that way.
If it's raised then I don't get a choice in the matter.
I'm forced to level up, forced to pick perks, forced to max skills.

The question is: Who will Bethesdian care for more? The one's who want specialized roles? Or those that want über-characters.

There should be a fair amount of decision making when building one's character, but players should have something to look forward to in new DLCs even if they already maxed out. They simply are not as much fun without being to enjoy the new perks (if there are some for that DLC) and striving to get to the next level. The problem is the cap on combat skills (guns, energy, unarmed, etc.) and the difficulty. In order to raise the level cap, there should also be a need for the player to do so. (But allow maxing on things like lockpick and science to allow full access to game at the end)

If they raise the level cap, they need to make it so only one skill point is issued, and NO perks beyond level 35 (However Level 35 and below can access new perks added via DLC)

Better yet, make the difference of perks and skills relate to whether you play normal and hardcoe mode, so everyone will be pleased

What would a higher cap on the skills do?
The game is designed for 100 cap on skills, going above that will be pointless as it won't really "do" anything.
And the design in Fallout (Well, what's it's "suppose" to be) is that we're not suppose to be able to max all support skills to have full access to the entire game but rather to choose what we want to be good at and leave other things behind so that we excel in certain areas while we're locked out in others.
This will also encourage multiple playthroughs in order to get maximum content over several characters.

Better yet, make the difference of perks and skills relate to whether you play normal and hardcoe mode, so everyone will be pleased

Can't work that way.
hardcoe Mode can be turned on and turned off at any time just like the regular difficulty settings.
Can't change the core design like that.

I'd rather have more perks and traits so I can try different combinations on new characters. Getting constantly stronger until you reach deity status was never a really huge thing for me.

well, with that new perks winning contest it's pretty much certain that there will be a new level cap and new perks.

There was 2 of them that looked amazing: one that negates the malus speed for medium & heavy armor, and another that gives you some boost when you travel alone (boost gets decreased by 50% for each companion following you).

where did you see that?

i was thinking maybe every dlc will increase you to 35 and let you use the perks introduced in DM, that way you wont become a level 50 god from all 4 increases (if all 4 up it by 5), and those who want an increase arent forced to buy certain dlc (if only DM or DM and one other increase)

that would make sense.

if they do add level up perks but no more levels then we better be able to respec
