We will get triplemonitor support out of the box, right?

Post » Sun May 29, 2011 4:02 am

The reason you never saw anything about dual monitor usage is it would be pretty stupid; the crosshair would be right in the bezels between both monitors. That is why gaming setups are using 3 and 5 monitors these days. It keeps the crosshair and point of focus on the center monitor.

WOW WOW WOW wait a moment... You said 5 monitors? Is the freaking chair rotating instead of you?!?!?! That would be like 270 degrees!

@ Keltic Viking

Look up OLED screens, they can curve and such. Or they will, at least :).

Yea, that helps eliminate the "bulk" problem that is the only advantage I can see 3 separate monitors having over 1 that's stretched out to the same length. I'm guessing the first ones will be fragile, but I've seen concepts for OLED touchscreen phones that you roll or fold into your pocket.

Yes, Yes he is... :celebration:

I'm surprised a company hasn't come out with a monitor that curves around in that way for the same (or similar) price of 3 separate monitors.

*cough http://www.computerriver.com/images/ostendo-curved-monitor.jpg *cough

This uses old tech though and I agree OLEDs will make curved monitors a lot better...

You can t achive that with a single monitor, and i guarantee that its wy better than a 50" television.
http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=66189&page=5

When in action you don t even notice the bezels of the monitors. You integrate all on the fly.

I know at least 11 people that got tripple monitor. And numbers keep growing. Of course they got jobs and dont play tiny games like Oblivion, Morrowind or Skyrim....
By the nine! By Azura! Theres life beyond those forum! :D

Its always sad to see people diminish what they can t have in an attempt to self esteem preservation.

I could care less for triple monitor support and there are a lot of other features and small tweaks/options that would make a lot more people happy and, unlike monitor support, can't be done by the players.
Things like a proper design for the PC UI in the first place, hardcoe mode (though more than just a little 'tweak'), separate difficulty sliders for player damage and NPC damage and a lot of other things. If all that is in the game, sure, add triple monitor support.

(To be perfectly clear: I am not saying extensive resolution support would take a lot of time away from development, I'm just saying there are a lot more important 'mindful' features I'm more concerned about. I find the resolution issue extremely trivial, almost like making a thread for different-sized callipers.)

I keep getting amazing that more games works flawless on triple monitor systems.

I hope it will be the same with Skyrim right? It was extremely annoying to get working on both oblivion and fallout 3.

A lot of people also forget that 24" tn panels are really cheap today, and if you got a eyefinity graphics card your just around 200euros away from a proper triple monitor setup.

Yeah, sure, add it. Even Arma2 have triplehead support. I only have two screen, so I wouldn't be using it. Extending the 3D view seems more trivial than splitting up the drawing area and keeping track of both. Sounds costly though, I can barely support the pixels on one screen :P

How much sense it makes is a matter of opinion. TES was never the kind of games where situational awareness was all that important, compared to regular shooters where enemies pop out from anywhere.

I bet 3x 32" will max out your real life field of view

And yeah i'm a youtube partner.

I love Arma 2, one of the reasons i actually got triple monitors. I'm a svcker for simulations.

But do those other companies make games as good at TES though? :P

In all seriousness though, it shouldn't be an awful lot of effort to put it in, and it would be nice for those that have it.

Well it depends what sort of games you like, I suppose. I'm currently expending every free moment playing X3: Terran Conflict by the German developer Egosoft, a single-player space simulator for the PC (a modern day Elite, if you like that sort of thing), and it's an excellent, well thought out, deep, and extremely complicated game! Nothing like TES of course, but a brilliant PC game and one of the biggest time-sinks I've encountered! I can rig up an extra couple of monitors and tell the game which menus or views I want displayed on each monitor, it was released that way with multiple monitor use in mind.

If they can do it, Bethesda can.

A few weeks back I did a poll on these forums and a post regarding using two monitors in a different way, and by and large the majority of people bit my head off as a racists or something or a bigot with too much money. All I wanted was to put my in-game map on my 2nd screen and didn't think that was too much to ask, to make use of my 2nd monitor for something potentially useful and fun, for me. I did pay for a 2nd monitor, and it would be fun, but the jealous hordes reared their heads and defiled my post with slander. So more power to YOU, man, if you want 3 monitors or 300 monitors and want to make Skyrim fill up your entire house, go for it! I think such cool things should be supported myself, but I know you and I are among a small community of people who think $200 for a monitor isn't that much, while the majority cry about how expensive a 2nd monitor is like they're buying a new house.

I agree with you, OP. Thanks.

Monitor sizes can be really tricky.

Did you see any of the fuss (against the idea) in threads requesting 3d support (ie. setting the crosshair and sky at the right depth for 3d drivers to render in the right place, it's just a case of inputting a few numbers)? It's rare you see that level of hatred against something that would not adversely affect anyone whatsoever, it wasn't dissimilar to this thread, a bit more vehement perhaps. Many people seemed to have a problem with the idea of a games developer supporting something that they weren't personally using - very sad really. Was there this much fuss when Direct X was a new technology?

It usually ends up like a massive "asch experiment" filled with envy.

3D support had been a nice feature to.
