Will Ghouls Be Treated The Same Way Like In Fallout 3?

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 1:25 am

Everyone who has played fallout 3 knows how badly the ghouls where treated, I do have a question though will ghouls be hated same as in Fallout 3? I mean in New Vegas ghouls were treated same as normal human beings, in Fallout 4 I'm curious how they will be treated. Because I assume Fallout 4 takes place before Fallout 3 so do you think they should be treated like they where in Fallout 3, or New Vegas?

Because the questions are asking our subjective opinion on ghouls, not whether or not we think their mistreatment makes for a good narrative.

Ghouls never really interested me but they are fun to have around. So I don't really feel anything towards them. So I was hoping for an ambivalent button

Fallout 4 is likely to take place after Fallout 3, not before it. And it wouldn't matter anyway, as Ghouls have always been seen as non-human, and just another potential threat to actual humans. Hence the hostility and hate. And in Fallout 4, I don't see why that would change.

Well considering we treat our own kind with such harshness over differences in ideologies or minor physical differences...

Yeah they should be treated badly. They're walking corpses that are decaying. In the earlier installments one can see their organs from the amount of decay and they weren't very quick (hence the name shuffler). They also happen to attract a lot of flies and stink of rotting corpse. In the newer titles, they also go feral which is even more reason for discrimination.

Edit: To add to the flies and smell, there was actually a quest in the earlier games to divert more water to a ghoul so that he can bathe more often as flies kept attacking him.

@DemonsBlade They turn feral? I always thought they stay the same. In Sierra Madre, Dean Domino was in there when the bombs fell and he was there a long time, and he hasn't turned feral. Same with Desmond, he should've turned feral too since he was in Point Lookout for a longtime and he isn't feral.

Yeah, I believe it was Bethesda that started the whole feral thing. I can't remember where it's stated, but I believe it was in Underworld (don't quote me on it though).

In the older games they were just very spiteful of humans and super mutants, resulting no doubt from their treatment. In Fallout 1 if you enter Necropolis they would usually attack on sight, not because of being feral, but because of mistrust.

There will always be racists just like in real life. Its part of basic human nature to be apprehensive of things you don't understand. I don't think every single person should be leaning in one direction in this issue. Give the NPCs some individual personality.

We need to have more info on the politics of the region, Ghoul to Human ratios, Feral ghoul spotting/attack frequency, whether there is something to hate more than ghouls.

If they play it simple, it could be they stick with more of the theme from F3, regarding ghouls.
However, I do wonder, since the Railroad asserts that AI beings are people, could it be that ghouls would be thought of as the same?

Human nature will never change, whether its here or there. There's always someone looking to blame/hate someone else. Ghoul hating is just like any other hate. It all there fault that everything is bad.

From what I've seen, you either can't handle the transformation and go feral, or are strong enough mentally to handle it and don't. I suspect having a purpose helps keep a ghoul from going feral......Dean was determined to get the gold, and Desmond actually ghoulified himself on purpose so he could play his "Great Game" hunting down and killing his enemies.

This one goes under my file of "How the ---- should we know?", seeing as no civil Ghouls are seen in any of the footage. I'm going to just assume there are those that accept them and those that don't.

Ghouls are people, it's been well over 200 years, the stupid bigotry should be a past theme in the games and we should see that not every region has the stupid hatred towards ghouls.

Ghouls are humans.

Well, I hope we get a ghoul as a companion. We get to hear his backstory, and what ghouls really are. Not like Charon, how he was just a merc and does anything you say.

No the two games treated them pretty much equally.

"If he's a ghoul he should be put down. I can't let a rabid dog suffer."

桝stor

"But he isn't feral."

桟ourier

"Doesn't mean he isn't suffering, or that he won't go feral eventually."

桝stor.

New Vegas only had a handful of non-feral ghouls when compared to Fallout 3. So it didn't get into human/ghoul relations, that doesn't mean that everyone saw ghouls as people.

They went feral in the first title, they were simply called "ghoul crazies" Bethesda simply came up with a much better name and went for fast zombies instead of shambling.

Well I haven't seen that many people have hate on ghouls in New Vegas, well except for Mr. House since he didn't allow ghouls in the strip.
