Will Lights be the end of spawn camping?

Post » Thu Sep 16, 2010 2:06 pm

I know that you'll have a certain time of being invincible after you leave the spawn area. And there are turrets that will kill the enemy if they try to spawn camp. (Which is one of the things I hate most about multiplayer matches is freaking spawn campers.) But with the light's high mobility they will be able to move through to an area and hopefully others can (possibly) spawn onto them. Have spawn points been deeply discussed? Can fireteammates spawn on one another ala BC2 halo reach and so on? I guess this could be unbalanced and become abused. Spry little wraith could carry a heavy jess alon in his pocket right into your base so probably not. But I guess splash damage will make adjustments if the spawn system gets abused at all.

I think you'll get more spawnpoints troughout the game. Like capturing command post. If you have 2 spawns with both 2 exits, spawncamping will be difficult.
Ofcourse, if these spawnpoints are contestable this might become problematic. For the sake of the objectives, I hope you can't spawn near allies.

This maybe could be one of those custom game things? Becuase it does sound a wee bit unbalanced for online play, but it would be nice too, but the Heavy pocket thing is just too.. Heavy?

I don't think there is a default option to spawn with a player.

But perhaps Operatives or Engineers could get an ability to make themselves spawnpoints for a limited amount of time?

Spawn points change as the game progresses, and there is only 1 spawn point for each side - and no spawning on players.

So there will be indestructible defense turrets set up at each of these spawn points to prevent spawn camping?

That's what they said - along with invulnerability for spawning payers, so enemy players can't just sit right outside the "danger zone" of the turrets and pick off players as they respawn.

So BC2 players that think they are going to get a couple cheap kills will instead get their face destroyed by a temporarily invincible spawner. Awesome. Talk about poetic justice.

Also, hanging around spawns getting kills, pays really [censored] xp. The way I see it, if the community manages to ruin yet another game (XBL is infamous for this) I still have co-op and solo bot matches to fallback on.

Spawnkilling proof not a good idea.

Well that kills some ideas.

Sweet sweet justice.

As I remember kills to close to the enemies spawn grant you 0 xp. :spotted owl:

This isn't justice. This is outrageous! It is not a spawnkiller's fault that you svck and can't get out of your spawn! That's your fault and only your fault.

I'm sorry but if you're good enough to trap someone at the spawn point you're good enough to defend the objectives.

even better. You guys remember the dead zones in bc2? they should put that around the spawns so enemies cant camp there. Put 5 secounds on the clock.

Spawn camping isn't fun for either team. The losing team just repeatedly dies without being able to do anything, and the winning team just sits there and fights over who gets the next kill. Even if the same team ends up losing anyway, its a lot more fun to have both sides actually moving around.

+1

Exactly. If you've got your little brother in a sleeper hold and he passes out you can either smack him in the face to wake him up so you can keep playing or keep choking him until he has brain damage and doesn't want to play with you anymore. I'd say the first one works a little better.

Spawn campers are just whoring for points.

When I log into a game that's getting spawn camped... I just "not prefer" every single player in that match. Because the campers are jerkoffs and the people getting camped svck at the game.

From what has already been said by the devs about spawn points it sounds like this cannot become a problem, with the possible exception of someone abusing their invulnerability within their spawn area. This, however, should not cause any trouble in an objective based shooter.

Spawn camping no. Spawn trapping yes.

Spwantrapping is just as bad, imo.

Not really trapping at least gives them a fighting chance.

Yes they are.

Spawntrapping does only work if you don't give people a chance Because if they can escape easily, they aren't really trapped.

True but at least if just them a change to attempt to escape the spawntrap, instead of spawn then dead.
