If you liked what you've seen in commercials, and have read some reviews or spent time in these forums, that should help you decide. I'm not psychic, unfortunately, so I can't predict whether or not you will like the game.

Honestly, if you like Assassins creed and Fable. Probably not.

Skyrim and TES is about looking beyond the obvious. There is no hand holding. You make the game, not a narrator.

I say get it, just to try it. And trust me. Skyrim, and TES in general are leagues better than Fable.

I recommend trying it.

But don't expect it to be anything like what you're used to.

I like Fable and AC and am a long time ES player. Don't be ignorant. That said, the only real similarity between ES and those series' is open-world gameplay.

Hey, I started with TES with Oblivion, and I've since played Daggerfall and Morrowind as well, and I've loved those three as well as Skyrim. But I also enjoyed the first two Fable games quite a bit. They're light-hearted and silly, especially when compared to a series like The Elder Scrolls, but that's their appeal, at least to me. And the AC games were fun for a while as well, until the lack of improvements (or any changes at all) between the installments started to bore me. People have varying tastes.

Edit: OP, there's a good chance that you'll like it, but if everything you know about it came from the teaser, then it's probably not quite what you're expecting. Give it a try, but try to keep an open mind.

I agree there is alot to explore at your leisure. My A.D.D really kicks in with the TES titles. Im going to complete a quest and see a tomb or a cave on the way and spend hours dungeon crawling. Every TES title has progressively gotten better and better, and nothing like Fable. The only "linear" path in this game is when you are in a cave walking down a corridor. So if you need direction in a game these titles are not for you.

you will like it as long as you stay true to the game and explore and just enjoy the game.
It is the best RPG ever made. I have played them all.
The only reason you might feel that its less then the best, is if you, as many new people to TES, is focusing on the main story line and rush through the game thinking they beat it in record time.

Its important to know that in for example skyrim, the main story line is just around 20%, maximum, probably alot less, of what you can do in this game. There is so many hidden places to explore, so many long quests to enjoy.

So if you are one of those that wants to rush thorugh, you will like it. If you like to take your time, explore a game world, find hidden treasures, hidden caverns with unknown dangers. Listen to the rumors in taverns and picking up quests of intricate paterns, then you will absolutely adhore Skyrim.
Its an open world and no one is here to hold your hand. The only hand holding you get is for the main story line, which is but a fractino of Skyrim. Unfourtenately 90% of those complaining on this forum about this game, belongs to those that rush through this game, missing out on all the at times even more interesting storys then the main quest, thats out there waiting to be discovered.

TV advert alone intrigue you?

You could try watching the official demos and footages too. I think you'll most likely like this game.
I like Fable too. :)

That was my entire point.

I'm a little perplexed as to how that could be conceived as being ignorant.

Fable is not open world game play, and AC is to a point with noticeable ends to specific areas with loading. Traditionally Open world game play is and area where you can walk and explore with out having to zone into another area (with the acception of walking into a cave etc.) Im just saying.

I say rent it first.

Assassin's Creed and Fable are both fairly linear. There's one main story and you're guided along it throughout the whole game. Skyrim is the exact opposite of this. There is a main story, but you don't ever have to do it if you don't want to. There are tons of other quests and activities to do in the massive game world, and you can go anywhere and do anything at any point in the game. There's no hand holding and the game never forces you to go anywhere.

The guy called you that because you looked like you looked like a bit of a hardcoe RPG elitist. "You like Fable and Assassin's Creed? Bah, casual games. You could never enjoy a real RPG like Skyrim." Of course, you didn't say that, but it looked like it was hiding behind your words.

There's a phrase about assuming I could regurgitate :P

I see what you mean, but to me liking those games and asking about Skyrim might as well be like asking about Skryim after coming from an RTS background.

I didnt see that. I saw what he said as a valad point. If someone needs a linear path to guide them through a game the TES titles would not be fun for them. I have met alot of people who didnt like Oblivion from the get go because they had no idea where to go outside the first dungeon.

Yeah. That's what I said before; they're not like those games he mentioned, but that doesn't mean that he wouldn't enjoy them. I think Fable is a great "gateway game". It's certainly a casual game, but it's far deeper than, say, COD, and it can rope people into trying more deep, complex experiences like the Elder Scrolls games.

Edit:

That's also true, and that's why I told him to keep an open mind. It was a bit of a pun, now that I think about it.

I loved Assassin's Creed. Never much got into Fable. I love Skyrim.

Since you seem to enjoy RPGs and open world gameplay, I think you will find yourself right at home in Skyrim.
