Will mammoths be hostile?

Hostile in the sense that if you venture too cluse, you'll get trampled

Maybe like Big horners, only the big leaders of the pack are aggressive. they do seem peaceful however, they are herbivores.

In-between. Generally passive but will attack through proximity. They should also posture a warning stance and noise.

I'll go with peaceful unless provoked by getting hostile towards them or getting too close to them. They could be regional based with features like "woolly, hide (like an elephant), and white (like polar bears are to bears)". They can also be scaled with features as "dwarf, pygmee, *unclassified, normal*, large, and giant". Dwarf and pygmee exists as classifications on wiki for mammoths and elephants, and large and giant refers to asian or african i.e., although it could be anything.

Giant mammoths could be domesticated to be used as travel service (replacing Morrowinds Silt Strider).

You should have a third option. Creatures can be aggressive, Neutral and passive. Passive are like Deer in OB, that will not fight back, Neutral are like most towns folk in OB, they will defend themselves, Aggressive will attack on site, which is what most creatures do in OB. I hope they have more passive/Neutral monsters in Skyrim. In gothic 3 they had hares, deer, lizards, snakes, meatbugs and buffalo.

Mammoth could be Neutral.

I hope they are peaceful by default, but I also hope that when agitated, they pack helluva punch.

I wouldn't want them "aggressive" as in they see you, they charge. But I think if you approach within a certain distance they should begin to shake their head, stamp their feet, etc. Stay too close and they will charge you. If you flee, they won't chase, unless you've been actively attacking them.

I hope they are non-agressive but keep their distance from you. However, if you threaten them, I hope they attack.

I don't know. I can see hostile if you bother them in the wild. Otherwise they may be mounts. Who knows.

Let's wait and see if the Mammoth that Japan is trying to bring back is aggressive, heh. :P

I just hope we will be able to remove the tusks and that they are not embedded to tightly. I heard in Skyrim that the tuskoluusa but that's entirely irrelephant to this thread.

Sorry I just had to do it.

I believe in the GI article it explains that animals generally wont attack you for no reason, so I'd expect that you have to provoke them in some way. Maybe getting to close or some such thing.

Oh I voted don't care for this reason.

Who in their right mind wants mammoths charging at them? Should be one placed right outside the prison, just waiting for you (Yeah, mammoths can understand The Elder Scrolls. He knows you′re coming).

Well, the GI article did say something like "Creatures in the wild don't just spring to the attack." Meaning they can be peaceful unless you disturb them, or some will just attack anyway.

Well, I think when I see my first one, I'll probably save and attack it anyway, just to see what happens. :P

I'm with this guy. I think you'd have to poke them or insult them in wolly mammoth.

I'd like them to be peaceful, unless you in some way make them pissed. Like getting too close. But seriously though, getting chased by a pack of mammoths would be awesome!

You just reminded me of the elephant chase level in Tarzan on the PS1. That was awesome. :P
