No thank you.

You wouldn't want Skyrim to have that level of detail?

It'll be a while before massive open-world RPG's are capable of stable graphics that look that photo-realistic. Still, I imagine Skyrim is going to look pretty nice all maxed out on a high-end computer.

I wouldn't.

Extreme realism and fantasy are hard to mix and it's destined to look crappy. For instance that avatar-thingie picture someone linked.

This. I want to play a game, not a reality simulator.

Some do. And as a result you get really high detail texture packs.

Well I think that's what he said ^^
Beyond the uncanny valley, a lot of people don't think photo-realism is profitable to the immersion.

I don't understand why. Do the Lord of the Rings movies look crappy?

I disagree with the view that it's too photo-realistic. The fact is that skyrim looks more realistic than oblivion and those before it. If you object to photo-realism, you should object to the way TES is heading. I suspect there's a certain amount of skyrim bullet-taking here :s But still, I wouldn't ever want amazing gaphics like that, if it meant costing skyrim's scope or other key elements.

That makes no sense, i can understand if you didn't want it to look like that artistically (The reason i like the way the witcher 2 looks over Crysis) but from a technical stand point why would you not want it to be that detailed?

I mean surely it would add to that misconstrued definition of immersion i see so much on these forums.

They feature real forests, not forests that someone created using a computer. It's not the same.

If there will ever be a time it looks 100% real, gimme a call. Until that I prefer them to stay away from trying absolute realism because it ends up looking crappy to me and hurting my eyes.

as bethesda use the gamebryo engine, call it what ever you want (creation) it is unlikely the moders to achieve this photo realistic result.

I'm just not seeing the photo realism everyone claims to see in Crysis. Does not look all that great to me and that video demonstrated some serious WTF moments too. briast stroke in 6" of water, swimming animation continues on after exiting water and how about the bird turning in a cardboard cutout after being shot and bouncing of the terrain and disappearing. Crysis is far from being the "greatest game ever made" that people make it out to be.

I think it's just got the best graphics, nothing more.

Why not? Crysis is almost open-world.

All these people are just BSing. If there was a graphics setting to put Skyrim on photo-realistic or "arcade" level, then EVERYLASTMOFO who had the specs to run it would choose the photo option. Anyone who says otherwise is lying thier asses off.

That looks amazing, but I prefer the realistic/artistic approaches in RPG Fantasy games like TES. If I want photorealism, I can go running in the woods outside with a sword and pretend I'm fighting off dragons.

Just my own preference.

Before using the term "uncanny valley"; it might be a good idea to read upon what it actually refers to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncanny_valley

And yeah, I'd love photo realism, but I seriously doubt the creation engine would match Crysis.

People theres a difference between the level of graphics and the graphics themselves. Of course nobody wants metal barells, 21st century guns and such in a TES game. The OP was most likely talking about the quality of the graphics, not the items/ graphics themselves.

Otherwise I really don't get why you wouldn't want graphics of that quality.

I hoped Skyrim would be like that...
It could be if it was developed for PCs first..
But unfortunately we will have to wait until 2017 for TES VI to see them because consoles are primary platforms.
