I think it's entirely possible.

Its possible with DX 11 but otherwise its unlikely.

I think the art style is much more important than photo realism though.

If i wanted photo realistic graphics I would play this boring game called 'real life'

Everybody saying that is a hypocrite.

Ok, fine, graphics are not the most important thing ever, gameplay and plot are far more important. But graphics DO count.

wish my computer could handle the last one that looks epic.

Thats how my Morrowind looks, the hilarious thing is i still think it doesn't look as good as it should. I need screenshots like that to remind me what it actually looked like before.

Maps in the game itself aren't close to the size of Skyrim, but CryEngine 2 supports a 16km draw distance and nearly unlimited functional map size. It could easily be used for a similar game.

Each game has its own graphic style. TES games are not meant to look photorealistic. However, if people like a photorealistic look in Skyrim it's their choice.

Exactly. It's our opinion. It's not "worthless".

heh you may thin so now but wait till TES 7 comes out. Lets not pretend they wont be pushing for that level of detail and more. Honestly, I think Crysis looks boring, but I wouldnt mind that kind of detail.

I always find myself just looking at everything in awe at the graphics and take nothing but screenshots when I use these kinds of mods on my games and I don't actually play them like I should :)

Level of detail is not strictly related to a photorealistic look. Think about the latest Pixar movies, they're amazingly detailed but you can't call those photorealistic graphics. The same applies to games with their own graphic style.

I'm mostly talking about time spent digitizing an entire game world. Graphics aren't where the development time and money is spent on more fleshed out games.

Also, a lot of people are missing the point in this thread. Graphics can be made insanely life-like and still not look like the real world. You would still be wholly aware that you're playing a video game if you were in a fiery hell-forest with gnarled, mutated trees that look entirely lifelike. People saying they wouldn't enjoy better graphics are just lying to themselves.

This. I want to play a game, not a reality simulator.

Pen&Paper RPG'ers complained that Graphical RPG's took away from the imagination and the fantasy with pointless simulation.

MUD'ers said the same about MMO'ers

Each generation, we gain advancements in gameplay, story depth, replayability, graphics and sound. These things are improvements we all grasp. Skyrim looks more like real life than Daggerfall did and when you get used to daggerfall graphics and immediately switch to Skyrim, it appears as though you're in real life.

People who complain won't when that detail becomes commonplace to the lowest common denominators (consoles) in about 20 years. They just state that it isn't artistic when it's still art, just at a much more realistic detail to how it was visualized in the artists head.

I plan to see this level of difference in Skyrim vanilla to Skyrim Modified.

Is this real life?

Is this just fantasy?
Caught in a landslide,
No escape from reality
Open your eyes,
Look up to the skies and see,
I'm just a poor boy, I need no sympathy,
Because I'm easy come, easy go,
Little high, little low,
Any way the wind blows doesn't really matter to
me, to me

Anyway.... Yea, those graphics are lovely. Would be awesome if Skyrim had them, imo. Artistic style can still be done, imo, with detailed graphics like that. Honestly, I think graphics are either going to photo-realism or highly stylized like Boarderlands.

Whether one prefers an artistic style or photorealism comes down to personal taste, although I do think the former ages better (Wind Waker still looks beautiful today).

In any case, even if modders could replicate the textures, Crytek's lighting engine and water dynamics are fundamentally different, so you're not going to get the same realistic look.

Why has this thread turned into Photorealism vs another style?

All this thread basically asks is if there will be graphical mods with the quality or technical aspects of this mod for Crysis, not will there be mods that change the art style so it resembles photorealism.

What's wrong with that? it adds to the realism of the game. Not everyone can afford underwear.
