Will mountains limit our exploration?

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 3:12 am

I guess it will be like a real mountain: climbable, but not from every angle.

You can climb a mountian from any angle if you had the gear to do so; said gear has existed since hell......pre rome.

Fallout NV was not made by bethesda It was theirs to oversee, but I believe they had no idea that that was a question in that game, because it took some time b4 it became readily evident that some areas were not scalable at all, at least to me, and this is not Fallout in any way shape or form so I wouldnt worry as Todd has already said if you can see it you can go there, ... IJS if Todd said it I believe it !,... BTW I was more peeved at the lack of ability to enter bldgs in NV especially playing as a sniper type never having access to roof tops

I hope not. I hope they are stuffed with dungeons, are climbable (paths to the peaks would be nice), and don't make Skyrim feel too cramped. I also specifically hope for a video game version of the Mines of Moria experience in/under one of the mountains... complete with some ancient, powerful being locked away deep within and an impressive sense of architectural scale.

Todd said in a recent interview that the mountains will have paths that lead, up through and around them; one dungeon is actually designed so one minute your in a cave, then you go through a door and you're on a narrow path on the ridge of a cliff and a wall on the other side.

Skyrim sounds like it'll be a mix of everything great with a great sense of verticality. Being able to climb and explore a mountain instead of bunny hoping it will make for a lot more adventure.

Am I crazy for wanting a Tamrielic equivalent of the D.C Metro system underneath and inside those mountains?

I want sprawling underground labyrinths to explore

Indeed Todd made a comment about danger (from creatures and so on) growing greater as you go up a mountain.

Please, please let this be so, you go up the mountains at low levels you get stuffed, but the lowlands, at least near towns, and with exceptions of course, are a lot easier, this is how it should be.

He didn't really say "as you go up the mountain"
His precise wording was "a tether system" like in Fallout; the farther away from towns/into the wilderness you get, the more dangerous it becomes in areas that don't lvl with you. And there's certain areas that DO level with you (A'la Vault 83) where if the devs say it's gonna be hard, it's gonna be hard regardless of level.

Well, as long as I get surprised and have to run now and again for venturing too far, and there aren't loads of high level Daedra 100 yards from a city gate, that will be good enough.

Lawl yeah. And as long as it isn't OB's leveling system. I really didn't like that. I mean it's not just "You can try, to kill a minotaur with that steel axe..but yer gonna fail.." it was straight up "No. We say you can't kill a minotaur so you can't even try. Deal with it." I mean yeah sure they did that to keep low level players from getting too roughed up when venturing through the woods to shrines or quest waypoints or something but I mean..if that happens, load your last save and just don't go to that area until you're stronger..I didn't like being able to knock out the entire game in level one if I decided not to sleep the whole time..
Edit: Had to fix a typo

We could have real options here. FO:NV had a fairly small map area anyway, so it was necessary to put in the walls to force you either fight the gribblies, or go the long way.
But Skyrim could give us choices, either go the long way round, go through the pass and hope to beat the Ice Wraiths, go through the tunnels and face the ogres and trolls, OR go over the top and spend ages trying to climb through a big, boring, low visibility due to mist and interminably, well, white landscape. Just hoping, but with a larger map certainly possible.

I'd take the pass. Funny I just got a feeling of deja vu slightly reminiscent of Oregon Trail. Anyway, I'd take the pass. In a cave you can't run away and f'ck those other to ways O.o

Not sure, I always climbed the mountains. A few in NV were ridiculous though, but OB and FO 3 were navigable. But paths would still be nice

well, anyone would still choose the easiest way to go. And I'm pretty sure no one would climb from a spot it's 100% sure there will be rocks falling, avalanches or stuff.

Sounds like Skyrim will have some epic mountains to climb and explore. They aren't ones to restrict you from going somewhere unless you hit the map borders.

This was one of my peeves in New Vegas, there were some tiny mounds I couldn't climb over, let alone mountains. Oh invisible walls, you can be very irritating.

actually no they wont. they will all be scalable. they are actually there to give us more adventure. it makes us travel alot slower therefore making everything seem alot bigger. there will be dungeons around the mountains and locations. its going to make th game feel way bigger.
