I will never ever preorder again. Guide to no disappointment

Post » Mon Mar 17, 2014 11:06 am

Of all that text I still don't understand what this guy wants. Guess he pre-ordered then tried a beta and didn't like it. Guess should have tried it first. I did the beta first and then preorder, go figure, maybe I'm terribly smart? Ah, F2P model is a crap cash-grab trap imho.

If youre spending 72 bux at Applebees youre buying a lot of booze, or you bought for 3 other people and they might have liked what they got. So then it isnt really about the meal I guess.

But these comparisons arent even in the same universe.

You compare ESO to other MMOs out there, not console games, not movie tickets, not coffee, not food.

People can spend money on a myriad of garbage, it is still garbage. Trying to compare ESO and its cost to something you 'wasted' money on is probably an apt comparison in the long run however because the vast majority of people who buy the game wont be playing it any longer than the people who will eventually get it for free in a while.

In this day and age you arent buying the game youre simply buying the ability to play it at release. So they charge top dollar for a game in its 'worst' state. The whole MMO landscape is completely backwards.

But it feeds on the mentality of people these days. The type that buy a phone for 500 bucks when it comes out and in 6 months spend another few hundred upgrading it. Or buying a plan that allows them to upgrade 'for free'. Theyre preying on the ADD crowd who needs the newest thing no matter how good or bad it is.

Either way I thought you could cancel pre orders and not have any money taken. So as of right now I thought people could cancel and not have to pay a dime.

I didn't preorder until I'd played. This was one of the better betas I've seen. Those complaining haven't been in many betas before.

I also can't stand F2P; a subscription model keeps out the rabble and prevents instability in the revenue stream, which discourages developers from taking risks.

I hate this forum. twice it's cleared the text I was writing.

Short version:

Pre-orders are essential because they provide metrics, and they're not half as much a rip-off as Early Access, which contrary to some peoples' claims "spending money on games you haven't seen is going out of style" is being adopted en masse by millions of PC gamers. Elite: Dangerous for £200 a pop? Don't get me started on Star Citizen.

That said, the Launcher's System Message sounds a bit disingenuous:

"Play as an Imperial and get Early Access before it's too late. Pre-order the Imperial Edition now".

Which sounds like this is your last chance to play Imperial in the game (it's not, you can upgrade to Imperial on and after launch day, 4-4-14).

The game hasn't even been released yet. You're going to judge the game on a beta? You still have the 30 days of game time coming after release. Then if you don't like it you don't subscribe.

Re: F2P

If it does happen, I'll not play.

I've seen what happens to great games that are forced into the F2P model. I don't want to play games that remind me of the great offers in the Store, or segregate the playerbase into Haves and Have-nots. Been there, done that, don't want to go back.

I personally preordered after i played Beta and checked what i was buying!

And i preordered the physical Emperial Edition MAINLY for the book and statue and never looked back!

Still though i would have preordered because i am a fan of the series anyways.

As for the subscription model in MMORPGS i have no problem at all, if new content is added regularly and if there is regular support/security from GMs and Developers when problems arise, showing you that they actually care about their game,

and not like most F2P games i have played that GMs/Devs just don't give a f....

Talking from personal experience having played FFXI from 2005 to 2013(not continuous though) with subscription and not minding at all about the sub. And also from playing F2P like AION and TERA for like 2 years that kinda let me down.

The point is that you spend money all the time on a lot of things you don't need to spend money on. You and many others should go play one of the free games out there. This is capitalism at work. Who twisted your arm to buy the game? Did someone stand there with a gun at your head forcing you. No? I didn't think so.

I spent 80.00 on SWTOR and paid a subscription for 2 yrs. I got my money's worth. You don't think you're going to get your money's worth with this game then don't buy it. It's as simple as that! Don't piss and moan on the forums when you don't even know how the game is going to be at release.

And one more thing, what you think is garbage, someone else doesn't.

There are just so many people who want everything for free. Just because one game is free to play with a cash shop that sells everything including bag slots, character slots, etc and you pay damned good money for them, they still think it's free. They don't want to pay a sub free. Pity them. Don't pay it. Don't preorder a game you know nothing about. It's as simple as that. I'm totally annoyed at posts like the OPs. It's just ridiculous. Buyers remorse is crazy. Think about it before you do it, not after.

I don't see any reason to preorder games any more. Too many disappointments. Developers release crap and then everyone has problems for months until the patches finally make the game playable.

I pre-ordered mainly for the 5 days early access.

I already knew I would purchase this game, because frankly I have no other games to play at the moment and there's nothing on the horizon that interests me. The bonuses you get for pre-ordering only sweetened the deal. Easy decision in the end.

Not trying to invalidate you or anything. But this weekend wasn't like a release of the game it's still in beta. I mean it uninstalling and reinstalling is a really bad sign that you should think about and decide if you want to cancel your preorder or not, especially this close to launch. But also keep in mind that it wasn't the finished product that was doing it.

As for me I have no regrets about preordering. Of course I did so for the PS4 so I have until June to see how things got the first couple months of the PC launch to change my mind and cancel.

What a load of [censored]e lol

Seriously youve never ordered anything before it came out?

No album, no books, no furniture, no cars, no instruments, no tools, no toys, no food........anything?

BS.

Another peasant who cant afford the measly amount and feels hard done by that they dont like the game.

And since when did you get to try out a vast majority of software for likes of consoles etc before you paid?

Hope the proper forums are closed to plebs and peasants.

I agree with this. What I am paying on the imperial edition is about what me and my wife would spend on a weekend out together, so as long as I get a weekend's enjoyment out of it no loss for me.

Most places I know of allows you to cancel pre-orders. I did it through gamestop and I know they do because I've done it before. They don't like to do it but they will.

Now this is flawed. MMOs do not make their money back from sales. It's the subs where they make their money. Look @ WoW for example. 15$ a month and how many million of subscribers do they have? I really don't think it costs that much for them to make new content and maintain servers. But any MMO that is charging 15$ a month and has over a million subscribers is just plain greedy. I highly doubt it even takes a million dollars a month to make new content and maintain servers.

ESO is the only MMO i know of to release with a sub and a cash shop selling mounts on day 1. And to lock a race behind a pay wall just to try and make even more money before the game is even out. It totally sounds to me like they're just cashing in before the you know what hits the fan.
