Will Obsidian Develop Future Games?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 2:07 pm

I'm not sure if the overall opinion of New Vegas is positive or negative, ignoring the issues it has with bugs that is, and I'm even less sure if Obsidian is planned to be used in future Fallout titles. I haven't gotten New Vegas just yet, myself, anyways, so my opinion on whether or not they should develop another one isn't really existent. The only logic behind their future participation would be that they're good writers(from what I hear), and because a number of Obsidian's employees were involved with some of the original Fallout games. Which is some significant reasoning in favor of it.

However, I don't know (again) what the majority of Fallout fans think of Obsidian creating games for the series-or how Obsidian employees feel about working with Bethesda again/working on another Fallout game, or vice versa. And out of curiosity, I decided to bring up the question here for anyone who might have facts/opinions on the matter.

There hasn't been any mention either way but FONV seems to be very popular so I could certainly see Obsidian doing another Fallout game in the future.

Disclaimer: mods are non-employee volunteers, we don't have any information that hasn't been released to the public and our opinions do not necessarily reflect Bethesda's.

Probably not. If so, it will be Bethesda's demise.

How do you figure?
(and don't answer bugs - Bethesda did the QA and were just as bad on FO3).

More Obsidian Fallouty goodness please.

I sure hope so, that way when Fallout 4 eventually comes out and fails as a Fallout game, I got a real Fallout game to look forward to :celebration:

Demise as in people appreciating Obsidian more than them?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I do hope Obsidian will be given another shot - and this time preferably by using their own engine (or other suitable engine) and given enough time and creative freedom to create something more in line with what Fallout originally was.

I hope so too. With the new engine they'll have for Skyrim I hope they finally scrap all the mechanics and rework a "proper" Fallout system into it, for FO4.

I hope the projectile physics are like STALKER.... adjusting my aim for gravity and wind is rather satisfying!

Obsidian made New Vegas.

New Vegas made a lot of money.

Bethesda likes money.

Obsidian will be back to do more Fallout.

God, I hope so.

Still I would prefer if Beth did only the gameworld and locations, while Obsidian the rest. Story, writing, characters, game mechanics, weapons etc.

Sadly (for me) FO4 is gonna be developed for Bethesda, well, more happiness for the FO3 fans anyway (but not for me)

I wouldn't mind if they developed more Fallout games but they have to cut down on all the censored bugs :brokencomputer: :brokencomputer: :brokencomputer: :brokencomputer:

I'm fine with continueing what happened now. Bethesda keeps the main series, developing FO4, FO5, etc., while Obsidian makes another 'spin off' or two.

Isnt a "Spin off" considered Non.Canon?

Hopefully they'll either be the one's to create all Fallout games or:
FO4: Pitt - Beth
FO:Van Buren - Obsi
FO5: Commowealth - Beth
FO: True to Caesar - Obsi
etc
etc
etc.

Yes please. Or a joint operation. Depending on how good the engine they are using for Skyrim is, I wonder if they'll be able to stuff in multiple sizeable worldspaces that we can travel between like Fallout 1/2. That would be ideal. Would be great if it made world creation a simple process so we could have huge amounts of terrain to wander on.

Nope.
The Pitt has such amazing potential creativity sprouting out from every spore.
In fact a DLC doesn't justify The Pitt's awesomeness(I'm still amazed this is a real word).
It should be expanded on IMO and I'd much rather take the industrial hefty radiation and unique mutations over NYC smuggler den or Commonwealth android wars. :)

I would like Beth to make the main series and Obsidian to make games like New Vegas and continue the story on west coast. Mostly because i think beth did better making a fallout game and Obsidan would keep making small improvements to it.

West coast isn't part of the main series?
And Bethesda did a better job at a "game" or a "Fallout" game?
Cause I don't see how they did a better job at a "Fallout" game.

Obsidian did a terrible job with the writing and voicing in this game. First off, the writing half the time isn't the same as what the voice of the character was saying. Second, the voice would sometimes skip half of the dialogue and just say a word or two. I mean... Obsidian is just lazy. With the game world and everything. I mean, half of the places on the map are total bullsh!t, for example, Chance's Map, a place in Fallout: New Vegas... it's just a little lines dug out in the sand, I mean yeah it's cool to look at for a second, but the place has no definitive reason to be there, same goes for... let's say Goodsprings Cemetary and Goodsprings Source, they're like right next to Goodspring, they really don't need to be marked places on the map. And also, there's this huge Canyon blocking one-fourth of the map, the game could've been so bigger if that canyon was lessened half it's size. Same goes for the North West, South West, South, North East corners... they could've had more content to them but no, instead they just put invisible walls and canyons in the way.

Dear god, don't let them make another game.

Fallout is about AMERICA in a post-apocalyptic world, it's only better they show what happened to the rest of the country... instead of being in the East.

So that's not a issue of a "terrible writing" but more of a "wrong dialogue text" which can be re-written and fixed(and I have yet to encounter these problems you speak of).
And it still doesn't chance the fact that dialogues, writing and characters quality literally destroy the Fallout 3 counterparts. Tourism, safari, sandbox and the exploration are Bethesda's only strongest suit since Oblivion. But nothing else IMO.

Half of the places *aren't* total bullhonkey just because they are not dripping with loot or monsters to grind. If I wanted my daily fix of tourism and dungeon crawling, I would probably play Diablo 2 or Oblivion with mods.

Sheesh, I pray to god every day for having Obsidian and Beth together doing the next Fallout. Sandbox + decent writing and game mechanics = win
