Will PS3 Users Get the Shaft Like With Black Ops?

Post » Thu Jan 06, 2011 8:29 pm

Black Ops might as well be an Xbox exclusive. The PS3 version is ridiculously sub-par. For that reason, the Xbox exclusive demo for this game makes me nervous. Are PS3 users going to have to wait an extra month for Crysis map packs too? If so, I'm just not buying this game. I've learned my lesson about multi-platform games that heavily cater to a particular system.

I'm not a PS3 fanboy or anything. I don't hate the Xbox, but I am not going to buy one just to get map packs first, demos, playable games (Blops), etc. I'll just not buy games from developers who do this crap.

i would be the same i agree entirely i am the same as you i'm no xbox fanboy. The main reason i got my console is was it was cheap and got it with a deal but M$ seem to be money mongering everything on the market at the moment and its not fair to other consoles and players.

Fun Fact: On the PS3 Black Ops ran at 960x544.
Yep.
960x544
960x544
960x544

What does Crysis 2 run at?
1280x720
74% higher resolution.

It looks better, has a higher resolution, has better physics, and stutters less.

So, does anyone actually know if Microsoft has cut the same deal with this game as they did with Black Ops? That's really all I want to know. I'm guessing "yes" just because of this demo business, which would be a crying shame. The game looks pretty good, but I'll not buy another game like Black Ops (no matter what the resolution is).

They said they were going to take the PS3 to its limit in an article. They never said anything like that for xbox so my assumption is that the PS3 version will be better than the xbox.

Plus, didn't the first Crysis depend a lot on the CPU? Cus while xbox has a better gpu, PS3 has a way better cpu.

It depended more one how much of an insane budget you had than anything lol.

C1 is still damn hard to run.

Anyway, after about 2 cores, it really comes down to clock speed and GPU rather than CPU. The jump from single core to dual core is massive, and dual to quad there IS a jump, although small. However, once you move to a dual core it becomes more of a quest to get a massive GPU, which in turn stresses the CPU (as the CPU needs to feed data to the GPU).

If the GPU wasnt so CPU bound then it would be almost entirely a quest for the ultimate GPU, however, as it is, its really about finding a good balance... and a massive GPU. Right now that basically ends up being an i7 (8 cores) and a top-end GPU, but really about 80% of the i7 (80% of the i7 actually doing anything, so really about 20% of the total CPU power) is being used to feed the GPU, rather than actually do game calculations.

Should be interesting between the two platforms. IF the current Crysis logic applies the platforms should be VERY similar (Xbox being bottle necked by the CPU, PS3 by the GPU). However we have no idea what kind of hardware support the engine has, so basically anything goes.

We DO know that CE3 supports up to 8 cores, but that really doesnt tell us how GPU dependent the game is. However, being a Crytek game, my guess is "very dependent".

Well so far this year ps3 players have gotten Littlebigplanet 2 and a superior version of dead space. Xbox needs something doesn't it? Also regarding crysis 2 for ps3 there was a video showing how ps3 will get better physics then the 360 an some other stuff as well.

Sony needs to get a handle on this crap. A lot of users (not me, but a lot) are going to look at these things and start going with the Xbox just because the games from these paid off developers are running better on that system. Not to mention the free demos and getting DLC a month before the PS3. Its the same type of shenanigans that Microsoft pulled in the computing world.

Simply: No
both versions will not differ .. that has been quoted endless times in endless articles.

And now for everyone again!:
The differences between the PS3 and the Xbox 360 version of Crysis 2 will be marginal and not worth mentioning.

Gross, good thing I have it on PC playing in 1080p..
Anyways, I'm not a fanboy to any console, in fact, I own every single one. But I'm still getting Crysis 2 on the PC. But hopefully for PS3 users you guys don't get that crap.

I imagine Treyarch would have said the same thing a few months ago.

Ive never heard of that company before...tryearch? Who the hell is this?
What have they made before? Any references?.. Oh i see mostly B- games and **** ports...

And now we take a look at Crytek...
We have Far Cry = Award winning and groundbreaking game
Crysis = Award winning and groundbreaking game
Warhead = Award winning and genius sequel to an groundbreaking game

I think Crytek has a more solid backstory...so trust them.

Yeah, I don't think they've done anything. It's not like the records for most preorders ever and most launch sales ever, one billion dollars in sales and eighteen million copies sold are anything memorable.

I'm fairly sure you're trolling, because nothing about Crysis was groundbreaking. Yes, the graphics were good, but other than that the story was unoriginal, the suit was nothing special, and the gameplay wasn't particularly innovative. The only thing that made it stand out was its high piracy rate.

You know the worse the game, the higher the piracy. I think Crysis 2 will probably be the most pirated game of 2011. And when you don't release a demo, its 10X worse.

I am not saying that I lack faith in Crytek's ability to make an outstanding game. I am just voicing my concern over whether or not they are equally committed to the various platforms and whether or not they have the same "give the PS3 the shaft" contract with Microsoft that Treyarch has. I'm not buying another game that is going to blatantly favor a system that I don't own. And considering that Demo was an Xbox exclusive, it looks like that is exactly what is going to happen with this game.

"Ive never heard of that company before...tryearch? Who the hell is this? What have they made before?" - That is probably the worst use of sarcasm I have ever seen in type... I can almost hear it be uttered in Glen Beck's voice.
