Will Repairing and Maintaining Weapons Still Exist in FO4?

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 12:42 am

If anyone has any thoughts or ideas about this, please share. I couldn't help but notice there was no condition bar for weapons when Todd showed off the Pip-Boy. Although, when showing the customize-able power armor, each component did have a "health" bar.

I do hope it returns. That was an awesome feature from the previous games that I can't imagine they'd get rid of.

I wouldn't be surprised if they considered having to craft weapons AND repair them to be a bit too much micromanaging, like they did with Skyrim. I mean are you gonna have to build an exact clone of your weapon to repair it?

I would think, you would repair your crafted weapons with other similar weapons, or the same weapons used to originally craft it with.

Not really a deal breaker for me.

It's obviously not a deal breaker, but it does make sense that 200 year old weapons would be deteriorated here and there.

In Skyrim you could sort of leave it out and it not matter.

In FO4 the entire world is built around the idea of people scavenging and struggling to survive using old pre war tech that is well passed it's use by date.

Not having to maintain and repair weapons would actually be a disservice to the entire atmosphere and narrative of the entire world

Repair is present in some way, the armour customisation has "(Y) Repair" greyed out. http://hydra-media.cursecdn.com/fallout.gamepedia.com/9/99/MWSnap229_2015-06-15%2C_05_16_51.png

There might be something. In one of the scenes fighting a super mutant, it looked like you shot off a cage around it's head. Perhaps those armor pieces you can put on over the base armor can get shot off and need replacing?

Before Bethesda's E3, I dreaded the possibility of removing weapon degradation. Thing is, it looks like FO4 will have more scavenging than any previous Fallout game, with the protagonist able to build the various weapon components from pre-war clutter. It looks like it'll no longer be about trying to keep an ancient device running a little longer, but rather using pre-war junk to craft, improve, and modify them. While I'd like to have repair anyway, it'd probably be trivial when you're able to craft most of a weapon's components from easy-to-find junk.

Perhaps you can only repair at a workbench now, instead of in the field

I wonder if that's just for the power armor then. It's basically a glorified vehicle this time, so maintenance may be a part of it.

I hope so, the game is somewhat a survival game.

Good catch. However I hope the same can be seen for weapons. I just think of it as an important part to the game imo. It usually kept me from always using my most powerful and rare weapons due to the fact that I wanted to avoid having it deteriorate, making the less powerful weapons still relevant.

I am not a big fan of armour repair. I could get into armor repair, though. :P

As long as it isn't like in fallout 3, where firing 2 shots from your rifle drops the condition so much as to make it useless. The degradation in New Vegas was the other extreme though, I feel like I rarely had to actually repair my weapons. A nice medium between the two games would make me happy.

I wouldn't mind it, but not in carrying around 30 copies of the same weapon to repair my best version of it. Maybe in the form of carrying around repair kits or smaller components like Wonderglue and Duct Tape.

I'm also wondering if they will still have crafting of different ammo types. I hope they don't do away with that!

I do hope there will be varied ammo types like in new vegas, perhaps even further expanded upon.

I'm really hoping Power Armor isn't just a vehicle. Maybe it's still something that you can walk around in all the time, but you need to take it off in a garage or something. It makes sense, since you shouldn't be able to just carry around a suit of armor that weighs a literal ton.

I noticed in the SPECIAL bit of the demo that Agility no longer affects your Guns, nor Perception your Energy Weapons :/

Though Strength thankfully still affects your Melee Weapons damage.

That's strange. I really prefer it when your special stats have more of an effect on gameplay than not.

Thats because there are no skills in the game, its all perks and SPECIAL, with SPECIAL score deciding what perks you can get.

When he was crafting the scope on the video it was made out of random items that had the required parts, the same could be done with repairing a weapon, to repair it you may need a screw, a spring and block of steel to be milled down into a part, so you use up a toy car, a click pen and some scrap metal.

I hope so, in the last two games I always waited till I was at my home base before I repaired my equipment.
