Will a replay of Fallout 3NV change your enjoyment of F4?

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 2:48 pm

I admit it, I couldn't resist it and left Vault 101 one more time, today.

But will I be sick of the wasteland?

Is a replay now really a bad idea, or is it actually a delicious appetiser for what is to come?

How close to a new game do you replay an old one,

or do you just avoid doing that?

Oddly enough I had started another play through of New Vegas a few days before fallout 4 was announced. Since then I've also started playing fallout 3. It is still another 5 months until the game comes out, if you start now I'm sure you can play through the last two and still be refreshed for release day.

I went out and bought a copy of FNV: Ultimate Edition the day after E3 and I'm really having a blast going through it again... :gun: Instead of going Legion like I usually do, I'll probably take it over...

Nah, Boston looks like it has a very different vibe to it than 3 and NV. Even with the little footage they showed.

I highly doubt it. What can happen though, is that it is very difficult to go back to earlier titles when you have played FO4!

Speaking of myself, I have a couple of characters in New Vegas that I go back to from time to time. Be it doing something useful in the wasteland, or just Deathclaw hunting. Even if FO4 will lack the replayability of FONV, I am (way to) hyped. Also like the idea of playing previous FO games on my console :)

Considering I already believe Fallout 4 won't top New Vegas, nah.

I plan to play some Fallout games following up to release. In fact, I'm playing Fallout 2 again at the moment.

I wouldn't think so. I bought New Vegas on sale, brand new, 8 months after it's release because I saw it was cheaper than Fallout 3 in the store (both were vanilla versions). I had just brought back L.A. Noire (terrific game, but beat it in about a month) and used the trade in value to purchase New Vegas. When I bought it, I started playing Fallout 3 a bit to get back into a Fallout frame of mind before diving into New Vegas.

Didn't regret it one bit. And I've done the same thing to other titles as well. Would play GTA IV and RDR before GTA V came out. Played a lot of Oblivion just before Skyrim came out. Played previous Final Fantasy titles before the next one came out. Just to get back into playing that style, making the leap into a game more fluid in my mind.

So no, I don't think it'll affect it all. If anything, it would make the transition easier because now you have that sort of mindset to play that style of game and the same genre and similar setting.

This was my most recent playthrough as well. But I'm doing unarmed/melee/and explosive (so I can set traps).

After all great RPGs that i lately played New Vegas does nothing for me. So i guess i will just wait for Fallout 4, or play Fallout Shelter when it comes out on PC.

I've started a playthrough beginning with Fallout 1. I never actually played Fallout 1 and 2 before (started with 3...shame, shame!!) and when I started FO1 I thought there's no way I want to play a game that outdated. But I'm really enjoying it!Can't wait to move on to FO2 and then onto FO3, NV, and then hopefully FO4 will be out by then.

Nah based off past experience of playing newer and older elder scrolls games when I play the newer game then the older game it makes me like the new game all the more based off the newer features that the oldgames are missing.

I gave FO3 another try after Fo4 got announced and it's not so bad of a game after all. Still not as enjoyable as NV and FO2 but it's decent. Already 21 hours in.

I got bored of NV after a few months, and never played through the DLC. I picked it all up in a Steam sale a while back, so I've gone back in to go through it. Just finished Dead Money (which was okay but not fantastic). On my way to the next one, I stumbled onto Vault 34, which I haven't explored before. I'm quite enjoying it--it's rather unsettling with the radiation and all the ferals. I just wish the Mojave was as much fun to explore as the Capitol wasteland, and that it would quit crashing on me whenever I approach an undiscovered location (the 4GB fix helps with some crashes, but doesn't get rid of the problem completely).

I've also got a game of Fallout 2 on the go, as well as a heavily modded run-through of Fallout 3 that I'd like to get back to before 4 comes out. I spend a lot of time playing the early part of FO3, but it would be nice to play some of the end-game content again.

I'm really in the mood for Fallout right now, but I don't think replaying the old ones will burn me out on it--FO4 looks different enough that it'll be a whole new game when it comes out.

I've actually been resisting the urge to fire up Fallout-3 recently. Thing is, I've got so many mods installed, I can almost guarantee the game will crash on start up until I remember everything that needs to be tweaked. I MIGHT end up doing a fresh install and then re-installing mods again, one by one. That's a time consuming process on its own (but can, perversely, be more fun than the game).

Considering Fallout-4 LOOKS very similar to Fallout-3, I can hope that playing FE3 will help assuage my burning desire for FE4. I've finished FE3 probably three times or more, now, and frankly don't care much for the actual main plot any more. But just roaming about, exploring... that's fun, still. Particularly with mods that add new player housing, or even quest lines.... one mod adds a sister that acts as a Companion and has voiced dialog / responses to existing quest lines. Things like that can really bring an old game back to life.

Aside from the burden of essentially re-building the game the way I'd want to play it (fresh install, mods installed), I'm playing some other games (single player and MMOs) and I know if I start in on Fallout 3 again, it will CONSUME me and I won't get back into these other games. I've already bracketed out four vacation days in early November to play FE4 when it comes out, though, and I'll be ignoring ALL my other games at that point. :)

I would be surprised if FO Shelter released for PC, not gonna happen I think, but

with that said I'd pay for it to release on PC though.

I started my own Tale of Two Wastelands when the trailer was released. It won't impact my enjoyment of 4 one bit, and I need something Fallout to indulge in while I wait. I was happily playing a new Skyrim game with a whole new suite of mods when Fallout was announced, but the trailer completely derailed me into a Fallout obsession. Got to get it out of my system. :)

Return to Fallout 4
