Sacrifice has had the longest shelf life of any game I have ever owned. It never gets boring. There are almost endless combinations between gods (creatures & spells), maps, map settings and skill level of the opposition. The small but devoted following will probably keep the original going for some time. However, I am afraid that eventually as hardware and operating systems progress it will be harder and harder to keep the old software working.
This game is almost a work of art. I have had times where I have observed games and just panned back and enjoyed the vista and watching high level spells go off.
I would love to see a new version come out. I guess the big question is what would a Sacrifice 2 be like? Would it be an overhaul/update of the old software? Would it have new Gods with corresponding creatures and spells?
I would say my preference would be for maybe a new God or two in addition to the five old ones. Lots of people seem to want a sixth slot for online play (I am not sure if connection issues would make more then six realistically doable). A new campaign would be nice, but as long as you have a Scapex 2 and can make your own maps and scenarios its not a must (lets face it head to head play against people is where this game really shines). I wouldn't mind an abort key stroke that would allow you to cancel a spell in progress (or at least an option that can be set for this in multi play). Also, of course fix some of the "bugs" like the problem with Tornado on maps like twirl and the teleport bug that crashes the game occasionally.
The trick is obviously coming up with something that is new but still true to the original and not something that plays completely different using the name.
One of the things that I don't think should be under emphasized (imo) is how Scapex helped keep this game fresh. I admit that there are a lot of bad maps out there, but the people that are good at map design really have given this game a shot in the arm longevity wise. Any new version would hopefully include another map/scenario editor.
