Alright I'm not sure if that was a joke. I hope it was.
Pretty sure that's not what he's getting at, regardless.
Yeeeeeeah, no, not even close. I'm not talking about actual graphical representations of sixual acts.
Look at most of the popular RPGs of the past and present. Mass Effect 1 and 2 involved romantic plotlines where outcomes were based on your dialogue with the NPCs. The same can be said for Knights of the Old Republic games and both Fable 1 and 2. Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 had romantic sidequests and actually had an event where your traveling companion/lover turned out to be pregnant and eventually had a baby!
Fallout took this to a much more humerous extreme though. You could seduce a farmgirl/boy and get stuck in a shotgun wedding, but it was still there.
Similarly, the sixual themes were prominant in the Fallout series. While they weren't really heavily done in F1, F2 really embraced those themes. You could have six by hiring a prosttute, you could seduce the head of Vaultcity, you could even become a porm star or pimp your spouse. And what was GREAT was that these would actually influence events in the game. If you became a porm star the "moral" crime family wouldn't have anything to do with you and it opened up all sorts of odd dialogue options throughout the world. It gave you a way to get involved with the Hubologists in San Fran. If you had a female character you could sleep with slavers to cut down costs when buying an NPC's freedom. Also, if you slept with either of the Mob boss's family members (wife or daughter) and didnt have a condem in your inventory, it would mention in the ending "epilogue" that a child from that family in New Reno rose to take over the city (ie: your son). And in all of this nothing was shown. six was the classic "cut to black" that games have been using for a while now.
However, Fallout 3 cut that out and it felt like they missed the point on that one. It's not a surprise as Bethesda's never really been all that comfortable with sixual or romantic themes in their games. Look at Morrowind and Oblivion. Morrowind had 1 romantic side quest, and Oblivion didn't even have that. But what we got in Fallout 3 was kind of sad. Nova in Megaton just felt like a nod to the sixual themes in earlier games, and Bittercup felt like the same but for the romantic sidequests. In both cases, they didn't do anything with them. Bittercup would have made for a really interesting companion if they just set it up. The same for Butch if you played a female character. That's not to mention the oppertunities with characters like Sara Lyons, Moira, or even the childhood friend Amata. But instead they just skip em. There's that raider city you can find. Are there any quests involved? Nope, you just kill them all. And when you find the prison/brothel at the top even the prosttutes/slaves try to kill you. I really think a "please help us get home" following quest would have been perfect there.
So that's what was missing from Fallout 3 and that's what I'm really hoping returns with New Vegas. Especially since it takes place in friggin Sin City! If they don't do it, it'll just look kinda sad and silly.
