Will skinny body types only be able to use smgs?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 8:27 am

So when i watched a ign video about brink Paul weedgwood (game director) talked about the body types. And he said that the skinny body type can only use smgs. I dont really think anyone can tell me if the light can use more but do you think lighter will be able to use atleast a sniper, and yes i know for sure they will be able to use pistols. Also why they hell did i put a t in skinny.

rifles, pistols, smg's, the light stuff.
what he meant was that a smg is the heaviest piece of equipment a light can use

Weapons fall into 4 categories, which correspond to the body types - Heavy, Medium, Light, and Pistols. All characters are able to carry two weapons, one matching their body type, and one lesser weapon. So Light players are limited to having a SMG or light rifle main weapon, and a pistol. If you want a true automatic rifle or a shotgun you need to move up to medium body type, and Heavy is required for the biggest and most powerful weapons. You aren't forced to choose from any single group though, a heavy player could have a pistol as a secondary weapon if they wished, or even carry an SMG as their main if so inclined.

In addition, to answer his question about snipers. There are no real snipers, only rifles with a scope. They ressemble snipers, but they're not intented for the casual sniper gameplay (Camping + hardscoping) There will also be no quickscoping, which is a good thing.

SD want to keep the action limited to close quarters, face to face. They don't want you picking off people from across the map.

For a fast paced in your face action shooter quickscoping is more likely to be in than you think.

However not effective since quickscoping needs a OHK to be effective.

i just hope it won't be able to shoot as fast as you can click, i can see "quick scope-double shot" situations pop up otherwise

Not for this fast paced action shooter were you cannot OHK by default. If you can OHK, you need a buff, and it needs to be against a light. It will be pointless though. There would be no point in zooming out. You will only give more time for the guy to pump bullets into you. So you might as well svck up your pride and keep your sight/scope on the target like you should.

In what way would quickscoping be "worthless" by it not being any sort of OHK in Brink?

You will need more shots but quickscoping still be as effective as ever.

1. Shotguns are medium weapons, last I heard.

2. Quickscoping won't work that well because at that range the other guy can probably just kill you with his SMG/assault rifle/etc. faster than you can pop off two or three shots. Also, if he's smart he'll move as he's shooting you, making it much more difficult to hit him while scoping in and out. The point is that the light rifles probably won't make for very good close quarters weapons. I'd much rather just take out my pistol than try to quickscope.

It's still effective as you quickscope for a hit and finish a target off with your handgun/secondary weapon.

no that would undermine the point of having body types.

You sure? I thought I saw a some quote saying that lights could use shotguns as primaries but I can't find it now...
Anyway it seems like a light kinda weapon right? close combat kinda thing? It makes sense to me anyway.

i base what lights can use based on what i can hold since im a skinny little [censored]. i can hold a pistol. prolly an smg. i could fire a rifle if it had a stand. i can not hold a [censored] shotgun, recoil would knock me back like five feet.

Before you can do that, you have been killed twice with an SMG.

I don't get why people are focusing on quickscoping, considering there are no dedicated snipers in the game. What you get is a semi-auto or bolt action "short rifle" that will be accurate enough to put a powerful scope on. Close range, you should be able to just fire it normally without the scope. Quickscoping is useful in other games because snipers are made to be inaccurate without the scope, but are hard to aim close range with the magnification. Taking the time to zoom in to fire close range when you could have fired accurately anyway would be a major disadvantage in CQC.

shotgun is medium, automatic shotguns are heavy, i can't really see a use for an automatic shotgun, but i suppose if there's a real good one, one of those combined with a assault rifle as secondary could be quite good.
myself i'd go for HMG+shotgun though

It's kind of funny, you don't want a long range sniper and you don't want them in close combat. What do you really want?
And if SD is actually balancing weapons then rifles will be on par with other weapons and not some useless weapon none will use.

Well of course they won't be useless. They won't be insta-death cannons either though. I see them as mid-to-long range support weapons. Not something you charge into battle with, but something you use to weaken and/or finish off enemies precisely, from a distance.

how about not having sniper rifles in any game? except for games like sniper: ghost warrior.
because, let's face it, a sniper rifle is always OP, shooting from out of visual range(for anyone not using a scope or binoculars) and sometimes even through walls.

it's just too strong for any game that isn't completely realistic, and then you'd need at least hundreds of players, and have convoys bring in reinforcements and such
