Will Skyrim for Games for Windows Live (PC) have achievement

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 6:35 am

Edit: The Elder Scrolls homepage has a little section telling you to:

"Reserve Your Copy
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. 11.11.11. Available on Xbox 360?, PLAYSTATION?3 and Games for Windows
Pre-Order Now"

Now, unless there is a difference between Games for Windows and Games for Windows Live (if there is please tell me because I honestly don't know) then I don't understand why a moderator closed my topic.
----- end edit

Original topic body:

Does anyone know yet if the Games for Windows Live (PC) version of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will have achievements?

If it does then I'll definitely be getting it for the PC. I don't know why but achievements just make all games more fun.

Any feedback is appreciated.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Games_for_windows and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Games_for_windows_live are different.

"Games for Windows – Live (trademarked as Games for Windows – LIVE[3]) is an online gaming service for Games for Windows-branded PC titles."

Well since Skyrim is a "Games for Windows-branded PC title" then doesn't that mean it will also be part of Games for Windows - Live or is that on a game by game basis?

Game by game basis and I seriously hope it's not for GFWL. If anything, I'd rather have steam, much smoother process and also has achievements.

Skyrim will be using Steam for the PC version, so there'll be no Games For Windows Live. That will only be for the Xbox version. And no, "Games for Windows-branded PC title" is completely different from "Games for Windows - Live". "Games for Windows-branded PC title" just means that it meets the criteria for running on a Windows operating system. It's basically just a pointless designation that Microsoft is insisting on these days for some reason.

Please no GFWL ... we hated it in FO3 and we hate it now. GFWL Disabler -- best FO3 mod ever made.

I mean achievements that will also show up as part of my Xbox Live gamescore. I know steam has achievements, but there is no total cross-game achievement number or point value which makes them pointless to me. There needs to be some overall goal they're heading to for them to even make sense to me. Every game provider is just tacking on achievements into their games because of the Xbox 360's success with them.

Who's this "we" you're speaking for? *I* had absolutely no beef with GFWL in FO3. I do have a beef with Steam though and hope to God that Skyrim DOESN'T use Steam.

Apparently it does. I haven't seen anything official yet but there's been plenty of discussion about how it will require it. I really hope it doesn't either. And I had no beef with GFWL in Fallout 3 either. I never once had to log in to get my game running, and I had the GOTY edition so I never had to use it for any content. Plus FOSE bypassed it anyway. Personally I really don't get this whole achievement thing. I play a game for the enjoyment of it, not to gain bragging rights on some impersonal internet system.

Where are you guys hearing that Skyrim is using Steam? I really don't understand all the love for it because the last 3 games I've bought through Steam constantly crash and freeze if I try to play them for any extended period of time.

I also don't understand all the hate for Games for Windows - Live. I've never had any problems with the service.

Here on the forums. It's come up in a number of thread I've looked at, though as I mentioned, I haven't seen anything official. But since Bethesda used Steam for New Vegas it would stand to reason that they will for Skyrim as well. Unless they're planning on going back to a disc-bases copy protection scheme. I certainly hope they do.

Next time please send me a PM if you are unsure why a topic was locked and I'll be happy to explain my reasons. I do not get happy when people ignore the lock and simply post the thread again; this can result in receiving an official warning and best to be avoided.

Games For Windows is simply that; a game for the Windows operating system. It has nothing to do with Games For Windows Live.
