Will Skyrim for Xbox 360 be on 1 disc?

Post » Wed Apr 14, 2010 4:31 am

I own a 360 and a PS3. I originally bought Oblivion on the PS3 b/c of the Knights DLC already be on the disc. My main concern is with more games coming out on multiple discs on the 360, it's making it hard to choose. I know I'm lazy. The 360, IMO, usually has better graphics for multiplatform games. Plus I live LIVE better than PSN (especially nowadays). I don't totally mind switching discs, but when you got a wide-open game like the ES series, you don't want to have to limit yourself to a certain areas or progression in the story or missions, and then be taken out of it.

One disc, the only other way I see is for them to have voiceovers be an optional feature for xbox users who have a hard drive to install to.

I miss FFVII and its 3 discs...

But honestly, i wouldnt wait for any DLC before getting the game, so it would be expected that itll be on multiple discs IF there is an expencive enough DLC to have another disc to accomodate it (ie Shivering Isles Knights of the Nine ect.)

Because it's hard to keep an open world open when it's split between two discs, and Microsoft does not allow developers to make games that require a HDD in order to play it, so a mandatory install is not an option. Moving the voices to the second disc is about the only way I can ever see it being on two discs.

I think it's because some 360s don't have hard drives.

Yes and its pointless for it to have more than one disc in an open world game because every 5 secs you would have to put another disc in and a majority of the players wont want to have to buy a 120$ hardrive for skyrim.

Stop be so inconsidrate

I mean no offense and I hate to take this stance, but those people without hard drives on their 360s are holding the rest of us back... or rather I blame Microsoft for releasing such a thing simply because it's not the consumer's fault if they can fully expect what they buy to work... regardless of its shortcomings. However, a large majority of us (many 360 players, ALL PS3 players, and ALL PC players) have hard drives. It's really quite irritating to see content be limited because SOME 360s (only one of the three platforms Skyrim will be for) don't have hard drives. How can any serious gaming device not have a hard drive in the modern day?

If you took all the threads on this and put them on dvds it would double the amount of 5inch floppys it woud take to contain skyrim

Ohh seti thats a can of worms you opened there. I dont even want to know how you can type that knowing how the 360 has held back game developmemt for about three years now if were going with whats holding what back then the only logical real gameing system is the pc.

And to the actual point of the opand the microsoft thing. There is no reasonable way to split it you would always have to cut into something models and textures and whTever are used way to much. And you cant force people to buy hardware. That is not the purpose of a game developer they are suposed to work with whats availible or inovate not dictate to the consumer

The people without hardrives.....should buy some but what i was saying was the people (like me) who have xbox 360's from release (3) with 13 gig hardrives would have to delete a huge portion of their storage to simply install skyrim if it was 2 discs and besides that there is praticaly no reason to make it 2 discs seeing as in a open world game it would create more problems than solve

I hope they don't cut content because others think it's inconsiderate! God imagine! Switching disks because they don't have a hdd! Better screw everyone else so we don't hurt their feelings.

Yes because that attitude is morally correct honestly this is why our society is so "great" Self preservation, the few over the many and the virtue of consideration is non exsitent

I agree with that stance on many tech-related things, but in the case, I'm pretty sure its the many over the few, not the other way around. People who don't use their hard drive for Skyrim would still be able to play it, but they would have to switch disks at some point, if Skyrim utilized a second disk. It could be irritating for some, but if people don't make pushes for completely viable and affordable (we're not talking about 30 gbs of RAM, 5.0 ghz processors, or DX11 capable graphics cards, we're talking about hard drives... the thing that only drive up the price of a modern console by $50 for a full 160 gbs) technology, we'll never go anywhere. Everyone in this thread can afford a hard drive. I guarantee it. All three platforms Skyrim will be released for are perfectly capable of having hard drives (while two even come standard with them; from experience, I've played many games on my PS3 that require hard drive installations). This isn't the impossible and it should be the standard, in my opinion, as it already is for TWO OF THREE main platforms and many 360s (I'd venture to say most) have actual (as in capable) hard drives, as well.

It will be on one disc. The only way I see SR working on 2 discs is if the second one is nothing but required installation files, which M$ doesn't allow, because of the users that don't have HDD's (how do they save though, hell, I think my brothers Oblivion save file on his 360 is over 1GB).

I'm am considering you! You switch disks if you feel your 12gb is too important to delete. If it's not then delete it. I'm not saying you can't play, I'm saying don't cut content for the sake of being inconvienant to you, and those in your situation.

It's a choice, and many 360 owners choose shelling out $ for hdd for whatever reason, not changing disks being one. Now if You don't want to thats your prerogative, but everyone else, pc ps3 and xbox alike, shouldn't have an inferior product because of it.

Again this is only an argument for cutting content to fit one disk. If that's not the case so be it, otherwise use 2, 3, 4 discs. You must suffer for the greater good. The needs of the many far outweigh the needs of the few. Don't be inconsiderate to those who spent money for a hdd, so you don't have to get up and switch a disc.

It's not that they don't literally have hard drives, but they're only 4 gb hard drives, which is not even enough to install Oblivion (which I can, from experience, tell you that the PS3 requires). I know I must stress this point quite a bit, but I almost had an anger-induced meltdown when I saw this at Best Buy. 4 gbs... 4 FREAKING GBS. What they heck? How can people who don't install the game to their hard drive stand the load times? They must be pure hell.

Only 4GB? How much money would you even save? ~$50? I don't see how anyone who is serious about gaming could expect to use something like that.

The 4 gb 360 is $200. The 250 gb version is $300.
