I don't think they're shooting for the same style, so it won't be as easy to compare as it will be to compare it to Morrowind and Oblivion.

I'm hoping it will be its own game, and try to outdo all of the titles.

Bethesda has never disappointed me (except with Rogue Warrior... ). I don't think Skyrim will disappoint me either.

In my opinion both Morrowind and Oblivion did certain things better and in a over all sense were not only as good but better than Daggerfall. But that's just me, and as I've stated here before I'm just not much of a PC gamer.

So in short, yes.

BETHESDA has disappointed me plenty.

The Elder Scrolls series has not.

The fact is, I find it strange that you would compare such different games. This is like someone asking "Hey, is the new Mario game gonna be better than Super Mario Bros on the NES?"

That is a fantastic point. You didn't hear people comparing Grand theft auto IV to Grand theft auto 2 from the psone days.

Jesus christ, I didn't say that Bethesda had developed it. They published it.

Sorry for off-topic...

Better question, will DAGGERFALL (how dare you not capitalize all its letters!) be as good as Skyrim?

Graphics and gameplay are mute, they are two different Era's (90's vs 2010's/11's) so Skyrim just has to beat

Factions.

Interplay between them.

Multiple Questlines

Lore

Dark setting / Maturity

Unlike anything before or since.

Living up to the name of BEING a TES title.

All while not utilizing mods to boost its shelflife.

I think Skyrim will be a lot better :D They're already more than 3 years busy with Skyrim (correct me if i'm wrong). And Bethesda admit it that they're busy with something very special, they didn't said that before the release of Morrowind, Oblivion, i don't know about Dagerfall because on that moment i wasn't a gamer. But i'm sure of it that Skyrim will be more than epic! :celebration:

Its a valid question there part of same series

Skyrim won't have as good a character generation system, I don't think there will be as many guilds, I like Daggerfalls spell and item makers over most of the ones in other TES games, Daggerfall will be a better dungeon crawl and I think Daggerfall will still have the best main quest structure in terms of branching of the entire series

so in certain elements Daggerfall will remain on top

I'm sure Skyrim will have pretty graphics

Will Skyrim be as good as Daggerfall? I don't know because I've not made up my mind about Daggerfall because of lack of play. The little I played was cool though. :)
I know Daggerfall had a lot of good features (dialogue, skillset, character creation, items...), but the gameplay?

From my lacking experience with Daggerfall point of view, I'll vote "maybe".

A big maybe, daggerfall may be an awesome game, but I can't get over the combat mechanic so I've barely played it

No way. If nothing else, Beth has to market to a much wider audience than it did with DF. The cities were so much larger and had so many more people. Doing that with the demands of schedules and voice acting just isn't scalable. The music was so basic, and yet so engrossing...now it's more detailed and beautiful, but not as engrossing....more is not better. The nudity didn't add all that much, other than a theme with NPC's in DF. It was a tougher, grittier place. Just compare the version of KoW from DF to Oblivion. Skills and character development was far more in depth than it is now and I don't see how they will want to bite that much off in terms of skills. A wider audience will typically mean appealing to more of a mainstream crowd. Please dont' flame for that, it's just business and I'm not down on Beth for trying to make a buck.

Some things they could improve upon to get closer to DF would be the story of the MQ. Not sure if I would be critical of the MQ in MW or Oblivion....rather I"d just say the MQ in DF was riveting. The level scaling challenge...got my [censored] handed to me a few times in DF when I bit off more than I could chew. But there was no place in Obvlivion where you couldn't work your way thru it. They could roll out new guilds and factions that would add to the depth of the character experience.

Bringing back small attention to detail type of things would also help. Little things like holidays, give diseases some punch, climbing, criticals or backstabs, banks, carts and those wonderful random quests that could lead in all different directions.

All in all, I think DF would be hard to beat for anyone...but I'm a shameless DF really devoted fan. It was a great game, especially for it's time. Hopefully Skyrim can match up to it in some ways and exceed it in others...but to be better than DF....I know it's in the eye of the beholder and in this fans' eye....no way.

I never played Daggerfall so it's not something I really care about...I *do* want to learn the lore though. I just got Morrowind so I can learn more about the lore of TES. Oblivion was my introduction to the open world game and now I don't want to play anything else. I just love that game. One other thing is that I'm not going to set myself up for disappointment by thinking the new engine will be bug-free. I'm really looking forward to seeing the differences though...I know it will be better. If there's a great story and great characters, I'll be happy. :)

Skyrim will probably end up being Bethesda best game to date but I'll have to wait another 10 and a half months before I make a complete judgement.

In terms of Daggerfell well the game was ok the map was (Censored) Huge, Good Storyline that I think had Multiple Endings. I think it will definitely be better then Daggerfell.

I can't believe how the hype is so intense without ANY sort of information but some dudes' opinions. I'll have to wait for tangible information to get (or not) hyped for the game itself. Now I'm just hyped for information. I hate all this whole hype machine because I got caught for several games including Oblivion which didn't deliver some promises as well as was a lot less good than I hoped.

Skyrim(or any other game) will never have anywhere near as good of a character creation process as Daggerfall. But besides that, I hope it is better.

I hope we get more skills, nothing beats being to make a very unique and specialized character. If every combat-based characters have (almost) the same skills, well it gets boring. Give us short blades and long ones, more armor types, unarmored, etc... Hell climbing would be neat as swimming, a good runner doesn't make a good swimmer, and a good jumper doesn't make a good climber either, hell there was no climbing at all in Morrowind and Oblivion. A swimming skill would be so neat... Imagine a character who you can barely swim, you'd have to use water walking or get around, it would spice up gameplay and make sure each character you make plays differently and is unique...

You know in the long run whether this game compares to a game that is older than dirt is moot. The important thing is how good it is as you experience it. I couldn't compare the two games since I haven't played, nor am I going to play, Daggerfall. And of course I haven't played Skyrim, either.

As I see it, games are designed to entertain. I liked playing all of the Bethesda game studios I have. As I see it comparing games, fighting over which is better, is a waste of energy. The past is past. Play them because you enjoy them, each has issues, and each has something we all find endearing.

I now return you to your regularly scheduled speculation... er poll
