Will Skyrim have a V.A.T.S like combat option ?

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 11:58 am

I serious hope not. The VATS system was the main reason I couldn't stand the Fallout 3 game. Without using it, you are pretty much screwed so you are basically forced to use it.

159 votes cast, and the results?

YES (10 votes [6.29%]) Percentage of vote: 6.29%
HELL NO!!! (149 votes [93.71%]) Percentage of vote: 93.71%

I don't know how you define such things, but I'd say over 90% voting one way fits most definitions of "majority" pretty well.

That is laughable, do you think only 159 people plan on buying skyrim ? I am pretty sure a good 80-90% of the tens of thousands of people who would buy skyrim for their xbox/ps3 whatever have never even seen these boards before.

Talk about being narrow minded.

Anyhow to the other posters, what do you guys think about the latter point on more detailed/vivid model damage similar to dark messiah or other oblivion mods which allowed for point damage and carnage?

Unless there's a company called Vault-Tec that sells futuristic Pipboys, then no.

Skyrim already has its own version of V.A.T.S. It's the dragon shout that slows time.

But until you've polled 159 of them, I've still got more to back my assertion than "Well, I don't care about people voting, I still say the majority wants...." :D

Talk about being narrow minded.

Diego, it's one of the fun features in Fallout for me because on those times when I'm using Pushy, it helped me to *not* give Boone a concussion. Without it, he kept getting in the way and then it was blam! Poor guy. I'm hoping there's a way we can do combat and not have to worry so much about NPCs getting in the way in Skyrim. I don't want to hear, "Hey, I'm on your side!" I'd rather not hit them. I don't think Vats would fit Skyrim well either. :)

Of course it will, it's going to be implemented into the magic system and it's going to be called M.A.T.S. :P

I want a kill cam, that can be turned off, like NV. That would be pretty cool, without actually having VATS.

Everybody who swings a greatsword or looses an arrow wants to see something fantastic happen on the kill shot -- please give us something to be proud of in that regard!

It's called a finishing move in Skyrim and no, Skyrim will not feature VATS. It would sooner feature Power Armor.

I thought the pip boy was what showed you the percentages. The number was based on your character's skills, but the pip boy was what gave you the ability to see those numbers. I'm asking what part of a bow shows me stats? Or are you saying that there wouldn't be an in game item for this, but rather it's just a mechanic to stop time and pick your shot?

Meh. It just wouldn't feel like TES to me.

I'm saying you wouldn't need a device. It would be an game play artifact of switching to a more turn based mode for short periods of time. Not everyone wants to play action RPG's, some want the more core RPG mechanics. Since I doubt they will ever switch back to the morrowind and earlier style of die rolls to hit on your normal swings a VATS like thing would allow people who prefer the die roll based combat the option to do so.

No Elder Scrolls games are does not use slow motions effects or pausing effects. The combat takes a very free feel and that would take away from that.

Well, except for that confirmed Dragon Shout that slows down time. That's got "slow motion effect" written all over it.
