Will Skyrim have a V.A.T.S like combat option ?

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 1:38 pm

I have to admit the V.A.T.S system of fallout 3/NV was one of my favorite aspects of the game.

I can only imagine how impressive a bullet time version of a warrior cleaving through groups of people might look like :D

Also, are you guys going to improve on the model damage in combat ? Dark Messiah of Might and Magic had some good ideas on being able to chop up targets and model semi realistic aspects to cutting through people.

I remember there being some community mods that didnt quite get it perfect but did show that it was possible. Everybody who swings a greatsword or looses an arrow wants to see something fantastic happen on the kill shot -- please give us something to be proud of in that regard!

I wouldn't want it for stylish slow motion, I'd rather have it for battles when there's friendly NPCs around. The amount of accidental friendly fire in Oblivion was pretty ridiculous.

There will absolutely not be a VATS system, and I'm sure the majority would hate if there was.

i don't think it would work well in a game like this.
if area location dmg is in though we can aim OURSELVES to swing/shoot at their leg, arm, head, etc.

NOOPE. no VATS. sorry. works with fallout nicely, yes. Does not work with TES. /thread.

P.S. is there any way for someone to count how many 'WE WANT VATZZ' threads on this forum? i'd be curious to know.

If the engine wasn't rehauled and it wouldn't have been a lot of work to integrate it into Skyrim I wouldn't really have minded it much, but in general I think it's better that VATS be kept in Fallout.

This is why they've introduced Attack Magnetism. Attacks are apparently going to make minute adjustments in combat to make sure that doesn't happen (As often), but we've yet to see it in action.

I loved VATS in Fallout 3 and New Vegas, but there is no way it would be suitable for Skyrim. I just don't think it would fit in, or that many would appreciate it's inclusion.

Please, no. I love both franchises but it simply would not fit a TES game. Leave the Fallout game mechanics with Fallout.

Strangely this was one of my least liked aspects of fallout, and that was when you had guns. There seems little fun in using archery if it automatically aims on to a specific part of the body and tells you how much damage it is going to do, that futuristic element had its place in fallout, but not in Skyrim. Plus it completely breaks the excitement of the battle when you can just freezeframe and weigh up your opponents and specifically target them.

It might be useful if they implemented some form of area placed damage, like a hack to the leg slows their movement, a hit to the head with a hammer stuns or disorients them etc, but as it stands now i am plenty happy going to town with the hacky slash on them

Negative. TES and Fallout are two different species. When you interbreed two different species, you don't get a superbreed... You get a sterile, freakish abomination.

I don't think so, but todd has stated that you can shout a guy in the head with an arrow, and be like an instant kill :toughninja:

VATS worked wonders in Fallout, but it really wouldn't work in Skyrim. Please god, no.

I dislike it entirely. It has a kind of turn-based-combat off flavour, like cheese gone bad.
I'd campaign against it. Outside BGS.

Their version may be the slow time perk...they did mention that as a shout or perk i believe, thus you could slow time to place a well aimed shot mid combat. Am I not correct?

Throw a nuke on Tamriel and we wouldn't be able to see the difference between Fallout and TES anymore.
