Will Skyrim be like New Vegas?

Post » Sun Aug 01, 2010 1:09 am

Because Fallout is Bethesda's franchise now, and it was developed under their permission by a separate company. If 2K Games owned Bethesda/and or TES they would have done the QA for Oblivion.

Apart from the QA Intern, all the testing is done by the studio responsible for making the game. It would obviously be in Bethesda Softworks interests if the game was bug free, but that doesn't mean they do the QA.

Am I the only one who didn't experience these "gamebreaking bugs" in new vegas?

Nope, I didn't come across any Gamebreaking bugs. But there were alot of bugs in the game, they just didn't have any major "side effects."

My character's voice change from male to female when taking damage.

Sounds like the location damage is more advanced in New Vegas than in Fallout. :whistling:

I can go on and on if you'd like. Bethesda Softworks did the QA testing for New Vegas because it was being developed out of house by a company they did not own.

No you are not. I played FONV on xbox and never experience any bugs. I think it froze on me once. I did experience long load times but that was usually after playing for a long time. When that happened I always deleted excess saves and restarted my xbox. That is the one thing I noticed in TES and the Fallouts...when you start getting too many save files, load times starts to increase. Is there a more technical person here that knows why this may occur?

Number of save games should not affect load times, however a old character with hundreds of hour logged will have a huge save game this will slow things down.

One explanation is that the harddive started to get filled up so the game could not cache to disk but had to read from dvd all the time.

New vegas was fine, i was playing on the 360, in fact i am playing it right now and the only bug i ever ran into was a scorpion stuck in the ground.

If you are so paranoid about bugs then wait for the first patch, which im sure is not necesarry, i have never been worried about skyrim, just curious.

blame Obsidian for New Vegas

You know Bethesda was responsible for the overwhelming majority of the bugtesting on New Vegas, right? All I "blame" Obsidian for is writing and developing a stellar game.

Define "gamebreaking". Well I guess the definition is that it breaks the game, and in that case I'll have you know that I had no such problems. Sure as hell I've experienced a lot of weird, and sometimes annoying bugs, but none of them even came close to breaking the game for me in any way.

Game breaking is usually bugs who stop you from finishing the main quest or other important quests, An oblivion bug where martin disapear after entering cloud ruler temple is game breaking, you return to IC and do a lots of thing, then you return you can not continue the main quest.
Vampirism can not be cured on PS3, is a game breaking bug if you are not aware of it.
More dramatically the game crashes, reloading earlier savegames and doing different things also crashes the game then you level up or it become Sunday.

Un-patched Daggerfall had multiple game braking bugs, it was impossible or very hard to finish the main quest without breaking it: type 1. Savegames was not cleaned up for items you stored in your house and later sold, the result was that the savegame could be to large to load: type 2. Lots of other but this was the most serious ones.

I eat my words.

In almost every case besides this one, what you said above is absolutely right. Most publishers own the companies they publish for anymore, so they leave the QA testing up to them and all they do is set deadlines and such.

Firstly, maybe I got lucky, but I didn't encounter any gamebreaking bugs with New Vegas on my Xbox 360. Secondly, I doubt Skyrim will be as buggy as New Vegas is reputed to be, because I believe that Bethesda would have had plenty of time to test and fix these bugs by the time Skyrim goes gold.

Furthermore, they have had a lot of experience with creating games like these and the engine was made by themselves. Since there's the creation kit, there should also be some similarities to the previous games made by BGS so developing Skyrim shouldn't feel too foreign to Bethesda, IMO.

Pfft everyone knows there will be, I mean Skyrim is just going to be Fallout with swords....jk
But seriously Bethesda is the kind of company that releases a quality product and if there are any bugs it won't be from lack of them trying to find and fix them.

I picked no but the past track record isn't excatly spotless for BGS.

I wouldn't blame Bethesda for all of New Vegas's problems, I'd blame Obsidian I mean they were the ones who developed the game in the 1st place :whistling:

I was led to believe Obsidian was to blame for that. So hopefully not.

Will Skyrim have game breaking bugs? Well, every Bethesda game to date has had at least a couple, so we'll almost certainly be seeing a few. Will the list be as extensive as New Vegas? Probably not.

Yes. But Bethesda was responsible for the Quality Assurance so they are responsible for errors.

Yep. Y'all can chant "Obsidian made New Vegas!1!!one!!" all you want, my response is: "And Bethesda tested it...allegedly..."

Only ignoramuses experience gamebreaking bugs in Fallout. The few bugs I encountered, I opened up the console and worked around them.

Okay everybody, repeat after me: " New Vegas was developed by Obsidian, not Bethesda".

New Vegas was developed by Obsidian, not Bethesda :)

And as said I didn't suffer any major bugs or glitches in NV, same for OB and FO3. Only errors are due to mods, then all these games get real buggy...

Are there *any* games that do not have any bugs (??). I do not mind of a few bugs, because I know that Beth devs will fix things. It may take a few weeks or so. Sometimes if I know that a game has bugs, I will wait to play until game fix been released.

People always said that Oblivion had too many bugs on release. I didn't notice any and I believe Skyrim will be the same.
