Will Skyrim Still Use The Awful, Awful 30:1 Timescale?

Post » Sat Jun 18, 2011 4:45 am

I liked it.

Any slower would remove the feeling of time actually passing, with day/night cycles.

Yeah,I liked the feeling of having had been out for all day...

I didn't have a problem with the default timescale, though a little slower is nicer.

I'm surprised nobodys mentioned niceone's dynamic timescale. If BGS were to make changes, this would be the feature set to aim for. In his mods, the timescale adjusts to what you're doing and where you are, and is completely configurable. Different scales for walking, running, riding, indoor, fighting, sneaking, etc. are available (all optional). It makes sense to slow fighting and sneaking down to 1:1, for example, but leave running and riding at a closer to default rate, IMO.

There should be a dynamic timescale instead. It's just not possible to go from one end of the province to the other in a few hours. Won't happen anyway, so yeah...

What's so awful about the timescale? You wouldn't want it to be 1:1... then it would feel like, "dang, I became a master swordsman in 2 days".

even having 30:1 ration didnt change much. you still became the champion of cyrodil and master of all the guilds within a few ingames months. i just didnt like going into a structure or cave at dusk start doing a quest or stealing everything and coming out and it was daylight again. it made me feel like the worst thief or assassin or quest-doer ever. the becoming master swordsman issue didnt effect me cause i premake my characters and then slow levelling down to 1/8th or 1/10th of normal. i can see how that would be an issue for console gamers though. good point. maybe skill rate slow down should be an option for consolers as well.

it will be 30:1 like the other games as its made for the casual gamer, and kiddies, who will only play like 20 minutes at a time and then rage quit cause they svck.

Though for Oblivion I got a mod that changed the time scale to 10:1 ... or was it 5:1.. anyway, I dont want the day to wiz past in a matter of minutes.

Morrowind and Oblivion were games made for casual gamers and kiddies that svck because they had a 30:1 time ratio?

I would appreciate it if you toned down on the mindless insults.

Off topic, but since you brought it up - I only asked one question on the fan interview, and that was it - if there would be some way to adjust skill gain rate. I play characters for a long time, and I don't like rushing pell-mell through the levels. As but one example - Claudia has about 160 hours, and just turned level 12. That's the way I like to play, because as soon as the character's uber, I'm bored, so I want it to take as long as possible to get to that point.

Though I play on PC, so if there isn't such a thing (and I don't particularly expect one), I'll just use a mod, just like I do for Oblivion. Still though.........

The PC version will most likely let you change the range of the grass, and I'm sure someone will do a low polygon grass mod as well. Let's just wait and see.

On PC we can change this through the console, unless they fail to give us console commands too.

It's fine. Not too fast, not too slow. What exactly is your problem with it?

Not to be a jerk, but in real life a fit/very fit person just hiking a big cave can take 2-3 hours, and that usually doesn't include looting, fighting monsters, sneaking or checking for secret doors. Unless you're rping the flash, a 12 hour cave expedition is fairly realistic, probably a little on the quick side.

The whole point of the thread is that it ISN'T just right. Whether he thinks it was too fast or too slow is a mystery, however. He didn't bother to enlighten us.

I would change it from a 30:1 to a 12:1 timescale. It seems a majority want a slower timescale as well.

Fortunately, I played MW and OB on the PC, so I was able to adjust the timescale to 8:1 for MW, or 10:1 for OB. Anywhere between 8:1 and 12:1 would be fine in my opinion, although there probably should be a 30:1 option for those who want the days to fly past, and a walk down the block take 45 minutes, so the world feels bigger to them. For me, the illusion doesn't work at 30:1, although MW and OB feel somewhat "natural" at a 6:1 to 10:1 pace.

I think it's a bit too fast. I think it feels as if time passes too quickly. I can't really enjoy sunsets that long in Oblivion, and it doesn't give you the feeling of there being a long noon for instance.
Now that we have dynamic shadows as well, having too fast timescale is something very bad... for obvious reasons.

Some may disagree, some may agree. It's fully one's own opinion. My opinion is to change it to 15-20:1 timescale, instead of 30:1.

2 to 3 hours yes............an entire day or night............no. also there is the problem of matching the number of footsteps, time picking locks or going through treasure chests or even fighting. i doesnt take me a minute to take every step. it doesnt take me half an hour to fight a group of bad guys because if i did i would be completely exhausted. it doesnt take hours to sneak around a group of enemies. it doesnt take hours to open lock and sift through treasure. just pick a tree and shoot 20 arrows at it. check you starting time and check your ending time. does it take you 30 minutes to shoot 20 arrows in real life? maybe if you captain hook.

ive been spelunking before (not by choice) and while we werent in huge enourmous caverns like down in south america or thailand we werent in them for more than a couple of hours max. and that included alot of time just standing around gawking at stuff or listening to a tour guide if there was one.
