Will Skyrim Still Use The Awful, Awful 30:1 Timescale?

Post » Sat Jun 18, 2011 2:27 am

Personally, I never had a problem with the timescale.

Making it too slow can cause some issues, of course....

id like 10 minutes an hour > 4 hours a day

...for example. Spending 6-12 actual hours following people for Glarthir would have svcked beyond the telling of it. :D

If it had been any faster I probably would have slowed it down. They will have to do something though with the new real time conversations. Talk to a couple of people and watch as most of the day flies by. I hope they slow it down a bit.

I always felt the time went by too quickly. Wow, what a beautiful sunrise! Oh, now it's pitch black.

I'd be happy with about half the speed of Oblivion. Doesn't matter though... "there's a mod for that".

no one likes it. pretty much everyone that had it on PC changed the timescale to something more reasonable than 30 to 1. they either used mods or they used the console like i did. will bethesda still use that stupid timescale even though everyone hates it and changes it if they can.

Yup, they're going to implement it at exactly 30:1 just for you. That way you can still have something to [censored] about when you pick up your copy of Skyrim.

This times a million. There are those of us out there who want to play in real time, I hope we can do it this time.

There should be an options menu to select one like this:
-60:1 (Fast)
-30:1 (Default)
-15:1 (Slow)
-1:1 (Progressive) *Game time progresses at a real time rate but will pause every time you stop playing.
-1:1 (Real Time) *Game time will always be synced to real time clock.
-1:1:1 (Real Date) *Game time and date will always be synced to real time clock and calender.

Something like that I would like to see, give everyone the option to choose there own way, then everybody is happy and everybody wins. And I see no reason why it can't work on consoles, they have internal times and dates too.

Personally, I didn't find it too much of a problem (so OP: speak for yourself!) but this sort of option would be nice.

You can easily change the timescale in the ini.

Yeah, but the OP is [censored]ing about having to do it in the first place. I actually preferred the 30:1 timescale, I didn't have to sit on ass and screw around for an hour or so waiting for it to hit 11:00 on the dot to progress the quest I was on.

I'm not sure if it really was substantially longer than its MW/OB counterpart, but the timescale in Daggerfall always felt pretty nice to me.

Having the option to increase or decrease the time scale would be good at time in oblivion I wanted time to go faster or slower.

Ive never had a problem witj it, not even in Morrowind back in the day. I think some people take the realism argument to the extreme.

The timescale was all right imo, could've used a bit slower but not too much, then we wouldn't experience the day/night shifts as strongly.

If you mean in actual game measurements, then not even by a long shot. It's 4 miles across, according to http://www.geekosystem.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/Large-Video-Game-Worlds.jpg.

This was my whole point. I was talking about the lore. The time scale has nothing on the lore vs. game size of the world, and in my opinion that's fine. I don't need dozens of miles of randomly generated terrain to enjoy the game.

did you even ready my post. i said it wasnt an issue for me but console gamers dont have any of those options. and since when did a quest ever had to start on the dot. you just hit wait tilll its in the same hour and the quest runs just fine. doesnt matter if it 15 after the hour or not.

The days did went too fast in oblivion. I always used the wait feature and wait untill the morning sun rised up again.

it never bothered you that it took 4 hours to clean out a house as a thief? or that if you walked along a road between cities and entire day or two would go by? it drove me nuts.

I had no problem with the timescale. "Everybody" doesn't hate it.

No, it did not.

(Although.. its probably best when you don't pay it any mind, and just notice that it gets dark every so often.)

Not me. It took me lesser than a day to travel between cities.

It would be nice if they added an option for this for the console users. I know the first thing I'm going to do when I start the game is press ~ and then type in "set timescale to 5".

I have no problem at all with the 30:1 timescale. Yes - it's a bit disconcerting that the time passes as quickly as it does, but for that matter, it's just as disconcerting that the entire country is about four miles across. So I just ignore all of that and think of it as it really is - a scaled representation of the actual place. And for that, 30:1 makes sense. It takes most of a game day to travel from one city to the next, which is how it should be. That helps me keep the sense of scale.

I wouldn't be opposed to a slider so that console players can adjust it as they see fit, but I don't see any reason for Beth to change the default, since they obviously haven't changed the distance scale.
