Will Skyrim Still Use The Awful, Awful 30:1 Timescale?

Post » Sat Jun 18, 2011 4:48 pm

alot of people that had it on PC changed the timescale to something more reasonable than 30 to 1. they either used mods or they used the console like i did. will bethesda still use that stupid timescale even though alot of people changed it if they could.

edit: reworded because some people are getting hung up on my post instead of the actual topic.

I'm hoping they provide an option to set it as we wish, including on consoles.

I think they should just make it very slow, considering if you want time to go by fast all you need to do is wait x hours.

if they don't consles are pretty screwed,

Tbh i didnt really mind about the timescale, it was another world i didn't want oblivion reminding me it's 06:00 and that i have to go to college in an hour. :D

but i might change it in skyrim so its a bit faster thank god im getting the pc version ;P

I was thinking a 15 to 1 scale is the fastest I'd want.

I liked it.

Any slower would remove the feeling of time actually passing, with day/night cycles.

Thankyou very much for speaking for everyone else, but I actually have no problem with that timescale. Perhaps 20:1 or 25:1 might be a bit better, but 30:1 is fine by me and never caused me any problems.

If there was no wait mechanic, I could understand it. However, there is, and as such a much slower, perhaps even 1:1 timescale could work.

I set mine to 60:1...so a default 30 is fine by me.

Yeah please do not attempt to speak for others.

I didn't even know what the topic creator meant at first. So in one hour real world time thirty passed in Oblivion basically? It's a non issue for me. If it's slower, that's what the wait command is for.

Well... I do see the OPs point. . - the occasional 8 hour battle in the arena was strange.

On the other hand, the two hour travel time from x to y made complete sense. . . doing a journey from one city to another in 30 game minutes would be BIZARRE.

The game world is not to scale. It's bizarre even with thirty to one, but that doesn't matter. The actual land mass is huge. Cyrodiil is over 1,000 miles/kilometers across for example, I've read.

It's okay, I can deal with it, but I personally like real time cycles. That is one of the reasons why I had gotten interested in WoW a few years ago. Real time scaling gets a bit restrictive, but I thought it was incredibly awesome nonetheless. Besides, as someone has pointed out, you can always rest in the Elder Scrolls games to make the time go by.

as people have pointed out if you have to wait for a specific time you just waited till then. it felt weird walking approximately a mile or two and find out that several hours have past. its also annoying if you prefer to do missions during the night or daytime and the entire day/night cycle goes by when you are on one mission. it drove me nuts. i guess it depends on how well you are able to make yourself believe that the gameworld is larger than it is. i cant. since my first playthroughs avoid using fast travel as much as humanly possible i no exactly how big the game world is because i walk or run it. seeing the sun shoot up and overhead and down again before i have even finished eating my pizza.

and to those that dont mind it that way i suggest trying it out once. no more taking 4 hours to steal something from someones house. what kind of awful thief takes 4 hours to clean out a house?

I think that the timescale was fine.

Anyone else think it's funny that one of the better things in Oblivion (besides mods and decent graphics with mods) for PC was that it had a console, whereas the consoles didn't ? :D

What kind of freaky superhero takes 20 minutes to run from one side of the country to another?

The problem I had with it was it made playing as a 100% vampire basically impossible since you couldn't avoid the sun, even through fast travel. So a option to set the scale would be nice. I'll be getting the game for PC though.

Unless you are using mods for hunger, thirst and sleep, what does the timescale affect other than day/night cycle?

Someone just mentioned that the rapid cycle made playing a Vampire more difficult. In hindsight, since I didn't play a Vampire, I can understand that.

ohh

I hated it how every Second is a min
and i also hated it how i wanted to explore in the night, But by the time i got done with a elven ruin it was already the morning
Please fix this and make time more realistic is i may suggest like the WoW time system cut in half or the Dead Rising Time system seems better then what it is now
1 second= 1 min
1 min = 1 hour
30 mins= your days done
soo lame

what the hell is this Topic about?
would you kindly explain?

It's about the rate that time passes in the game. Some people thought it was too fast in Oblivion. Morrowind too.

it will be 30:1 like the other games as its made for the casual gamer, and kiddies, who will only play like 20 minutes at a time and then rage quit cause they svck.

Though for Oblivion I got a mod that changed the time scale to 10:1 ... or was it 5:1.. anyway, I dont want the day to wiz past in a matter of minutes.
