Will sneaking be better in Skyrim?

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 1:45 am

I dont know if they have already released info. on this but, will a character that you choose to be sneaky and work for the dark brotherhood and such, actually have in-game depth to it. For example, like if you were sent out to go kill a dude, but you couldn't be caught , shouldn't they make it fell real, so like you got to do stuff to keep people from noticing you and like you actually sneak in the shadows, you can hide in stuff, like closets, and then when you for the kill its like an assassins creed assassination. Like it goes into a cinematic mode? Tell me what you think, because I really want a sneaky assassin like character and I want it to have its on feel to it. What do you guys think about this.

Chances are it'll be very similar to Oblivion, just improved in places. More importantly, nice name.

In an interview a long time ago I think Todd said they left stealth alone basically, no overhaul. Too bad because it needed an overhaul, people play three basic ways, combat, magic, or stealth. Everything else is a mixture of those. They are revamping 2 of the three but not stealth???

Ennemy behavior towards an hidden player has changed. Before spotting you, ennemies will now go in an alert state (like in FO3)

Last I heard They made some nice changes to stealth. Some of the reports from last weeks hands-off demo talked about how enemies will no longer go from completely unaware to knowing exactly where you are. The "eye" icon will slowly open as the enemies begin to search for you, and depending on if you continue to shoot arrows, or move somewhere else, you can delay how long it takes for them to find you.

Why would sneak need overhauling?

It was a godsend compared to Morrowind.

I'd be perfectly happy if they left it alone and didn't try to "fix" it.

I think sneak was pretty good in Oblivion. More stealth elements in general would be nice though (e.g. having to move a body to prevent it being found, and if bodies are found enemies go into an alert state).

so you are ok with sneaking down an open road in broad daylight right up to a bandits face and smashing him and then he yells 'HEY!'? sneak needs some tweaking that's for sure. in OB if your sneak was high enough you could do exactly what i described. not very realistic at all.

Pretty much this.

Off the topic:

With attributes being removed... (probably been asked before sorry)
How would I increase my damage done from using weapons? In Oblivion you had to increase strength obviously?

How would it be done now? Through skill increases and perks?

Well obviously sneaking is going to be better than Oblivion, that's one of those things that you shouldn't even need to ask. It's a big part of the series and obviously with new games it's going to improved upon. That's part of the reason to make a new game.

If what you're asking for is going to implemented, I doubt it. Cinematic cutscenes are something reserved for important moments in important quests and that's it, not for kills. And you could hide in closets in Oblivion, so I don't see the concern there. Getting behind cover was part of the stealth process in Oblivion, as was being in the shadows as opposed to being in a brightly lit spot.

It's SO COMMON to see people asking for stuff and saying "unlike Oblivion" when what they're asking for WAS IN OBLIVION. That game goes so uncredited for what it did.

The biggest thing that annoyed me with Oblivion's stealth was the lock on target for guards and other npcs. Once they spotted you they chase you to death. A thief needs opportunities to rehide after being spotted. Ok, we don't have crowds like Assassins Creed to blend in, but at least let us get away by running faster or hiding behind buildings. Once the enemy lost eye contact they should get disoriented for a while and if you stay still they would quit and go back/or go alert a guard, but this will buy you time to disappear.

That's already been confirmed. You can quickly return to the shadows, if you're quick enough after being spotted, to resume being stealthy.

And again, it was possible to outrun/hide from NPCs in Oblivion, just not 5 feet away from where you were caught. You actually had to lose them.

The actual mechanics of stealth itself doesn't really need an overhaul, as much as enemy AI when reacting to stealth does.

In generally, it just needs to be a lot harder to sneak than it is in say, Fallout3. New Vegas was a little better, but inconsistent. Generally, if you kill some intelligent entity (Men, Mer, whatever) and the actual kill is witnessed, there should be no "Oh, frank is dead, let's go back to normal" situation. They should search relentlessly. Reacting to dead bodies would be nice, but probably unreasonable to ask for.

Unintelligent entities, like most animals however, are generally fine. They see an animal die, and they might get startled, but otherwise, can resume standard behavior patterns.

As for what changes need to happen to criminal activity, that's a whole different story.

Yeah. There was however a slight problem with that in the demo they showed. But they'll be aware of it,so not too much to worry about. Will be great if they do get it right though.I'm a fan of the stealth types.

In Oblivion, if I had high enough stealth, I could be crouching in daylight in front of a guard without being spotted. BUT, and this is a very bug BUT, if any NPC no matter his/her sneak skill or mine, was in sneak mode, I could clearly see them even from a hundred yards away in the darkest place, since in fact, they were just NPCs in another stance, not really sneaking... Why? And more important, will this be "fixed" in Skyrim?

I don't know if many of you guys have played Amnesia? Well in it there is a monster and when he appears you can choose to run, or hide in many places, one of the fist of these counters involves you having no choice but to hide in a closet, I would love this idea :hubbahubba:

Their are stealth kills, so it is already better.

I think pretty much everything will be better in Skyrim.
