Will Stealth Suffer?

Post » Wed Apr 07, 2010 11:44 am

Hello Everyone,

It had come to mind that in Skyrim there will obviously be dragons and there will obviously be Nords...but do you think other races will be included? Also with the addition of dragons will stealth characters be at more of a disadvantage? I mean come on now stealthy characters are constitutionally weak (not as bad as mages but they have offense) and their sneak skills would be useless against dragons, unless the dragon were to land and search out the player? Even if that were true I doubt a sneak attack would be much against a dragon lol Hmm maybe youll totally have to rely on archery? What are your thoughts about this?

You can still choose any of the 10 races in either gender.

Stealth characters have the advantage of ranged weapons, while warrior characters have to let the dragon get close to attack. Plus archery supposedly will be significantly more powerful than it was in Oblivion.

What I honestly considered into this idea was that part of the stealth characters tend to rely on fast light-weight weapons, it seems that a stealthy character would also be very quick and agile, being able to dodge most(or all) of the dragons attacks.
Giving them a good advantage as well.

Thank you for clearing that up ^_^

And you all think maybe they will incorporate a new dodge system? That would be ideal! Maybe they will have a type of fast draw arrow system depending on your marksmanship. Grr ideas are pouring lol Is it also confirmed that they will incorporate a TESCS for this title?

Not sure about a dodging system, but archery is one of the areas that they've been focusing on improving the gameplay. Bows will do a lot more damage at the cost of arrows being harder to find. Plus there will by a whole set of 12-20 archery perks.

The modding tools will be called the Creation Kit this time.

Oh that is awesome! I have always struggled with Oblivions Archery system and I wont even get started on Morrowinds lol. I just hope they really do pay attention to stealth this go around but it looks like they have from the trailer with the assassin sneaking behind the person and throat slitting. The only way you could do that in oblivion was with mods so this is looking promising.

Have you been to the Game Informer site yet? They gave a whole page on stealth/archery, as well as other combat styles in Jan.

I believe that all archtypes will be able to shout.

Sneak up on that dragon and startle it to death with a shout, lol.

If you are talking about Stealth-Daggers and not Bow....I'm pretty sure the Dragon's naturally land. Stalk them while stealthed then proceed to sneak behind it and backstab + poison. Once the fight begins I'm sure the fast hitting daggers and quicker movement from light armor will greatly help a Stealthy build finish off a target.

The Shadow-Step Dragon Shout will probably be your best friend (stealthly teleports you behind a target, I think) as well as the backstab perk I heard about that causes 10x dagger sneak damage. Man this game already sounds ridiculously better for Stealth-Dagger characters compared to TES3/4. God bless Perks over Attributes.

There's also a shout that lets you slow down time, and even one that lets you summon a dragon. So for a stealthy character you could probably kill a dragon by summoning another dragon then helping it out with arrows.

Not exactly new.

But at least it will be better than Oblivion.

imo, stealth chars are at an advantage, as they can sneak on the ground, hiding from the dragons and never be chased to death by them. Then, they can get the first hit in before the dragon even notices them and be able to hide again. I'm looking forward to fight dragons with a stealth character :)

And while they’re cagey about the details, Bethesda says that one shout will let a player summon an actual dragon, calling him by name to fight.

Yea I was curious to know what has been said about the stealth classes vs dragons because obviously I love to play the silent assassin lol and its hard to imagine how they would pull that off....only because of my experience with the previous titles.
